Wait? Didn't SONY win?

Please stop preaching your "dark" philosophical perspective of the gaming industry's future when a company "wins." I'm tired of hearing these horror stories about how Microsoft is going to dominate gaming if the 360 "wins" or SONY will force proprietary formats on us if PS3 "wins"

If you guys haven't realized by now. "wining" is a illusionary, omnipotent status, fabricated by naive fanatics to support their insecurities of an electronic purchase or "The One" of gaming if you put it in "The Matrix" terms.

Bottom line is, SONY "won" last gen. Remember what happened? They brought out a new console and started all over again.

Think of the gaming industry as The Dating Game. The 3 companies aren't in control, although they may manipulate it with lies and empty promises. The hot bachelorette aka consumers/developers have too many options, so no "one" entity can enforce their monocratic rules.

They will just go with whoever has the most attractive options.

I have been going over the numbers in my head for a few days and they don't add up.

There were stories here on Gamespot about Install Base in the UK and Australia, both of which said the 360 won in 2007 in those territories.

We all know 360 won in the U.S. and Canada. The US by a lot.

Sony has Japan, but only by 1 million. So if it does not have the UK, Australia, and Canada, where did it sell so much that it beat the defecit caused by loosing to the US & UK?

And do we REALLY care if Sony is winning in Tonga and Thailand?

Are you serious? Most of the games that sell well and come out for wii are mini games or some shovel ware. Yea I know theres MG, zelda and so forth but thats all first party it was the same with the cube. Also while there are some and i mean some good 3rd party games its still not alot. Yes I do own a wii and yes it was my first system,but I dont like nintendo strategy.

I totally understand that Europe is huge in console sales, but my understanding is that the UK is the biggest part of that and that Sony lost there pretty handily. It lost in the US by a lot.

Yeas, MS is 1 to 1.5 million behind the PS3 in Japan, but that is nothing compared to how much Sony is behind in the US & UK. So where is Sony outselling MS by MILLIONS to make up for the loss in the US/UK?

It seems you have forgotten the playstation 2 started of in the same horrific, slow manner, and the next thing we knew it was king of the hill, i supported GC at the time, but everytime a game commerical came on "only for ps2 and xbox" thats all I heard. I knew what I had to do. This gen ps3 suffered the same fate in its starting year however, you can easily see it beating the 360 in almost every corner of the world. The Wii will continue on its path but it will lack the big guns same as last gen, owners will miss out on some serious fun, simply put Wii cant be your primary console.

I think MS has sold nearly as many units in Canada as Sony has sold in Japan...

People always act like Sony is doing well in Japan. They aren't. Less than 2 million still, I believe.

And Sony did outsell MS by about 40,000 units in Jan & Feb, but when you are down by 4 million, that is not even worth mentioning.
