LOL, wow this gets better every day. So wal mart is going to release a HD-DVD player for $100.00 cheaper then what the cheapest one is going for now and all of a sudden its over for the PS3?! come on 360 fans, cant you do a little better than some cheap HD-DVD wal mart players to doom sony?! Ok well lets look at facts shall we. By the time those HD-DVD players hit store shelves this fall/winter in wal-mart, Blu-ray will already be very well established not including the great PS3 games will be out by that time as well, along with "home" by that time sony will probably drop the price of blu ray players as well.
Another main factor that will hinder those HD-DVD sales is wal-mart's consumer base. I mean everytime I go to wal-mart, the people infront of me tell their kids to put the pack of gum away because they are already maxed out on their EBT cards,So i highly doubt your typical wal-mart consumer is going to adopt $300.00 HD-DVD players immediatley and by the time the wal-mart consumer does finally catch on, PS3 and bluray will be so ahead of HD-DVD in terms of sales it wont even be funny. PLUS you have to consider that in order for people to buy a HD-DVD player they have to have this thing called a HDTV! and again, your typical wal mart shopper is not going to have a HDTV let alone a 1080p TV.
Now dont get me wrong, I do really think they will sell quite a few HD-DVD players here and there at wal mart, but to think that they will sell enough to take out the PS3 is just insane. I mean i remember back when the PS2 was released and DVD players started to sell for $199.99 and the PS2 was still $299.99, did that stop sony then?! Ofcourse not beause the PS2 had great games by that time, just like the situation will be this time as well, by the time this whole Wal-mart thing starts, the PS3 will have some very good titles to hold its own. And lets not forget once Spider-man 3 is released for blu-ray that will really push blu-ray BIG TIME! I honestly think Spider-man 3 is what will push blu-ray big time.
