750,000 players in just a few weeks and still growing. Quite an achievement to say its an mmo with basically 0 advertising outside gaming circles.

Also its still recieving great reviews, the most notable to date a 9/10 from IGN and 5/5 from Gamespy.

Just a shame GS underrated this game so much, 8.5 will never get this game the recognition it deserves here on SW.

I can't freakin wait to get my new PC for Christmas so i can play this...not sure why you're complaining about a 8.5 from GS for a MMO 'at launch'...almost every MMO I've ever played at launch didn't even deserve a 7, and that's including the much loved WoW. Can't wait for freaking PvP in this game though...the holiday season can't come quick enough

I honestly cant see any mmo ever reaching the number WoW has ever.

I do however think WAR has the potential to do very very well. Personally i'm loving my time on WAR.

750k players? It has been over a month my friend. That is a terrible player increase rate. Age of Conan had 1 Million in 2 weeks and they are now merging servers cause they don't have enough players. In truth, Warhammer is just one of those games that will just blend in with all other MMO's and Blizzard's WoW will either finally plateau or the expansion will see another quick growth.

I hate these MMORPG type of games, but it is kind of cool to see a game take a small slice of out Wow's pie, it's about time. As much as I don't like the genre I still don't like to see one franchise dominate.... not sure why.

huh? Please provide a link to back that 1 million in 2 weeks up. I read right here on GS AoC topped at just over 600k. Oh an WAR was released here only 2 1/2 weeks ago. Also it has yet to be released in many countries.

Sorry but 750k is a phenomenal number for a pay to play mmo. Its more than wow in the same time span to put it into comarison.

Does not really work that way. WoW took awhile because MMOs were still a new concept to many.

time will tell with war, but just everyone from docters to Mr T knows about wow, it needs some heavy advertising if it wants to reach huge numbers like wow, if the game is good enough then the people will eventually come if they know about it

Yes you are right. Like i said though, this game has had very little advertising outside gaming circles, Already someone on this thread has stated they don't know what it is. Although that could be as i called it WAR, not sure.

Aww, if you have atleast a tiny interest in Warhammer you gotta try it. Even my wife, who loved WoW is having a blast on it. You learn alot about the lore of Warhammer too. The PvP is great, so much fun and highly adictive and unlike WoW isn't all gear/class dependant.

Hell, even the Tomb of knowledge is addictive, just trying to fill in the blanks to see what it will unlock next lol. I got the nick name "ow my eye" unlocked as i clicked on myself 100 times, even got xp for it lol.

that really doesn't matter though. WoW isn't on contiguous world - the increased population just means more servers.. as long as you have a weel populated server it shouldn't matter how many people play as long as it's enough to keep the servers running ;)

maybe i worded that wrong. I actually agree'd with GS review, i said that in a PC forum thread. All i meant is as it didn't get 9+ nobody here in SW will give the game any kind of attention or credit for quality.

I didn't really like the Open Beta at all. The questing and leveling in WAR are extremely boring. Pvp is it's only true redeeming point. And even then, while the battles are huge, you don't really feel like a 1 man army like you can in WoW.

The official release date for Warhammer was September 16th, it is now October 15th. We're one day shy. As for the news story on Age of Conan hitting 1 million in a month, I believe it was a story back in June or May that hit Kotaku. I'm not gonna bother looking it up. And Warhammer was released in both Australia, and all European markets. It is only missing a few asian markets, they probably won't turn over either due to how much money they make on WoW.

Sure it got to 500K the fastest, but it definitly slowed down after that. I don't see why you are pushing this game either, I left the game over the weekend with a Rank 31 Chosen. It got boring really quick imo.

Actually, server population and just play population is more important to WAR than any other MMO on the market today. Where as other MMO's are great social hubs to gather people together to achieve goals together, in this game other people is your goal. The less people playing, the less exciting it will be. And that goes for all times of the day. If you aren't a prime time hour player, you really have nothing much to do.

Bolded for bull tbh, you praise this game way too much, popping out to Superb reviews and claiming no advertisement is not only false but apperent most MMO's at the time..... WoW didnt have advertising on TV for 2 years.

Didnt age of conan sell faster?

18th?? I WORK AT GAMESTOP! We were selling copies when it came in on the 16th. It was not street dated so we were absolutely allowed to sell it as soon as it came in. On top of that, the day it officially came out is trivial, cause had you preordered it you could've started playing the game the weekend BEFORE it came out. And it wasn't considered Beta, all your progression was carried over.

MMO's are the only games that are truly piracy proof. The devs really don't care about piracy when you have pay $14.99 a month anyway.

you don't get what i'm saying.

WAR has populated servers pretty much across the board, but not as much as WoW *servers, not people*. my point was that you shouldn't be concerned about the numbers as long as you have enough to fill the servers that exist - so comparing it to the population of WoW is a MOOT POINT.

Well yes, comparing the population of the two games right now isn't exactly fair, nor does it prove anything. However, what I was saying is valid, this game is going to rely heavily on tightly balanced server population, and it will only be considered "fun" at all levels with the most amount of people playing the game as possible. Just balancing the numbers on certain population and forcing the community to only make characters of a certain faction on particular servers will become a reality going forward.

Sorry but 750k is a phenomenal number for a pay to play mmo. Its more than wow in the same time span to put it into comarison.

Don't ever mix the amount of copies a MMORPG sold with the amount of active subscribers it had, age of conan may have sold multiples million of copies over time, but it's active subscribers in any moment since it released never top 700K players, let alone a million , and it droped fast. Warhammer Online was the most preordered pc game in EA's history, and it ship 1.5 million copies at launch, having over 750K players for a new launched P2P MMO is an amazing achivement, probably more amazing than a FPS title selling 3 million.

[QUOTE="Frozzik"]strange, when a Pc game is doing well nobody cares, maybe mythic should scream piracy to get WAR on the map lol.Il_Exile_lI

MMO's are the only games that are truly piracy proof. The devs really don't care about piracy when you have pay $14.99 a month anyway.

Actually... some people create private servers and play on those using pirate copies of the game. You don't get the "massively" multiplayer online experience when you're playing with 10 other people, though.

Played the beta, didn't like it. No skill cap what so ever, and just found it completely boring. No, not a WoW fanboy either, don't even play WoW, I despise the game.

Yes you are right. Like i said though, this game has had very little advertising outside gaming circles, Already someone on this thread has stated they don't know what it is. Although that could be as i called it WAR, not sure.

Rougehunter

I would try it and all, I use to play the miniatures years upon years ago. But I am waiting for the Star Trek MMO myself.

I'm holding out for a Mechwarrior MMO myself :P

wasnt there one a long time ago but was canceled?

I have no idea.

All I know is that, if they were to actually make it, it would be the epitome of awesome :)
