So I just started consol gaming two months ago after being a PC gamer for the past 10 years.
I am 26 years old and have been a gamer since age 9 so I can safely say my opinion on games is going to be a hardcore gaming opinion for the most part and also a mature one.
I have been thoroughly browsing http://www.gamerankings.com/ for game analysis for the past week and have viewed almost all the game reviews for all the games produced on the Xbox 360 and the PS3. I have seen several video reviews and gameplay vids on Gamespot and IGN and other sites for almost every game produced by both consoles and I have read the reviews on all of them except for a few that were rated 5 or lower and didn't deserve my attention.
So the argument is that the Xbox 360 has more games than the PS3 and the 360 has a better aggrigate rating for all its games. I'll be using the data found at http://www.gamerankings.com/ to analyse whether both of these statements are in fact true... Let the Game Wars Begin!
First I would like to say that both the Xbox 360 and the PS3 have tons of fun games and that it is impossible to difinitevely say everyone will agree with the conclusions i'm going to reach.
OK, so after doing extensive research on ALL the games offered on both the Xbox360 and the PS3 I came up with lists of games I want to own and games I want to rent.
The games I want to own on the Xbox 360:

Average score of 360 multiplates that I want to own: 80.921%

OK! Now that all the statistics are calculated, what conclusions can I make, focusing on the games, to help me make the decision to buy an Xbox 360 or a PS3.
The first conclusion I can make is that out of all the Xbox 360 games and the PS3 games there are actually 5 more PS3 games than Xbox 360 games that I want to own:
Conclusion 1: PS3 has more games that the consumer wants to buy than the Xbox 360
The second conclusion I can make is that out of the games I want to own if we compare the nine games of the Xbox 360 to nine of the PS3 we have a roughly 80.8% official approval ratings for the Xbox 360s games and 88.5% approval ratings for the PS3. Also comparing the ratings of the nine Xbox360 games to the fourteen PS3 games, the PS3 games official ratings are leading by 80.7% to 82.5%. Also the PS3 has a higher average rating for rented games on this list.
Conclusion 2: On average the likable PS3 games are rated higher than the likable Xbox360 games
The third conclusion that I can make is that the multiplat games on the PS3 and on the Xbox 360 that are for owning and renting have a higher average rating than the PS3 on both counts.
Conclusion 3: Multiplats have a higher rating on average for the Xbox360.
So... Which has better games according to my preferences of game selection? Before I can answer that question I'll have to think about the games coming out for the Xbox360 and PS3 in 2009. According to most sites i've been on as of late there is more anticipation for new releases that are coming out on the PS3 so I will conclude that as for now I can speculate that the PS3 will have a higher rating score for 2009 releases than the Xbox 360.
The Final Conclusion in the War Of Games for my selection of games is that The PS3 Wins, but by no means does this mean that the Xbox360s games are not as fun - in fact I will know that i'm getting the raw end of the stick if I buy the PS3 on the multiplats according to the official ratings.
But for now I choose that I will buy the PS3.
