I never owned a Dreamcast or any Sega console, so this is just out of interest, but to Sega console owners, what console would you say is the best Sega console? Is it the Dreamcast? I know the Dreamcast is generally remembered fondly by Sega fans.

I would say that the Mega Drive (aka Genesis) was the best Sega console.

Saturn was the best Sega system if you know how to import the right games. Otherwise, the best Sega console was the Genesis. The Dreamcast was awesome as well, but it didn't have the libraries that the Saturn and Genesis did.

I have a DC, a Saturn, Sega CD and a Genesis, and I must say that I am partial to my Saturn. But then I am a big fan of the Virtua Fighter series and most the Saturn RPG's (Shining Force III, Panzer Dragoon Saga and others).

A lot of my friends liked the Mega Drive, but I was a Super Nintendo fan through and through. Would you say that it was as good as the SNES in quality of games or not as good? And was it a better system or worse overall?

Both systems were simply amazing, but I'd give the slight edge to the SNES because it had the game that I consider to be the greatest of all time in Lufia II: Rise of the Sinistrals. That was the closest generation in terms of sales and quality by a large margin. You can't go wrong with either systems.

The DC was a great console that met a unfortunate death due to association with Sega's past failures along with the launch of the PS2. The DC was a step in the right direction where Sega had the perfect combo of great hardware and software...Its too bad the industry as a whole didnt experience the greatness Sega created.

Game On...

I did like it a lot, but i think the best title would go to the Genesis/Mega Drive. Although it was destroyed by the PlayStation i just loved the Sega Saturn. Maybe because it was my first next gen system for the time and also my first CD based gaming system. I bought it at the may 1995 surprise launch.

It had the potential to be the best, but the genesis was really the best.

Thats the impression I got at the time. And I'd agree with the "closest generation in sales & quality" statement - both systems seemed to have an abundance of excellent games, which have since become calssics. Sonic and Mario were in their prime in this generation, as well. I think that overall, it was an excellent era for gaming.

BTW - Thankyou for your good responses, SmashBrosLegend & all others who replied.
