Of all the games Sony could have rebooted, they decided on Shadow of Colossus. It didn't seem like anyone was calling for it. Don't get me wrong I'm excited for it, but it seemed like a lost opportunity to bring back other classic franchises that haven't already received some treatment already. What do you think, SW? Was this a lost opportunity or are you satisfied either way?

There are a lot of Sony franchises that were popular back in the day. Spyro, Syphon Filter, MediEvil, Resistance, etc.

But nah, not really. Would have made more sense if the HD collection didn't exist, because yeah that was a blessing considering how poorly SotC ran on PS2. But I certainly wasn't expecting a full on graphics overhaul remake, and I just don't see it doing big numbers at all.

Still, I'm happy for it, I love SotC and it's been a long time since I've played it. But it does seem like an odd choice.

@SolidGame_basic: Not sure though. If Last Guardian had been a major success, it would make sense. But yeah, maybe could have picked something else.

Great game, the video I saw looked great, but I hope the asking price is right. It would have been nice to include Ico like the PS3 collection.

Yeah, but only if they finally make it run in 60fps.

How are those games anymore deserving than SotC. I've not heard anyone asking for remakes of those either.

Had it been ICO, I probably would have bought it. I didn't enjoy SotC as much sadly so I won't be rebuying. I've still got my PS2 copy if I ever want to replay it.

I think these kind of remakes are mostly for new generation of gamers that havent played Sotc before and the die hard fans that want the best version of their favorite game.

Nope. Not in the slightest. I could think of many better games to be remade, but alas

This^^

The game was released over 10 years ago no on PS2 so I would immagine there's people who missed the experience.

I know it had a release on PS3 but it wasn't at the same calibre of this remaster.

@getyeryayasout: true that.

I mostly buy remakes simply for convenience's sake. After years my old systems get boxed up to make room for new ones, and if I can get older games with better visuals/framerate etc (especially if they're $40 or so), it's great to have the option.

OT: yes, very necessary. ?

It was for me. I bought that PS3 bundle of Ico and SotC and I didn't like either game. But I want to give SotC another shot because I think I just wasn't in the mood. If this remake didn't happen then I wouldn't have given it another chance.

SotC is a game I have never played because the PS4 is my first playstation. I don't even know if I'll like it, but am glad for the option to play it.

I was just on the verge of selling my One too. A good E3, even though I lost my Metroid bet to Char. ? Ah well, money well lost I guess.

Considering that I haven't played it yet I'll take this opportunity to see what all the fuss is about. Still got the PS3 version from PS+ I think but never got around to actually try it. Might as well wait for the new version.

I still have my ps2 version which is still loaded with meaningful gameplay. This remake will be a great free psn+ game someday or a bargain bin game to pick up down the road.

Unnecessary but welcome. The original is an all-time classic in spite of its technical drawbacks.

I see no problem, others also make remakes of games that no one asked for, but these remakes are targeted for the newer generation of gamers. Of course that doesn't mean that those that played the older versions won't be able to enjoy the game, since usually remakes have additional stuffs included.

Well I hate SotC, so I would have preferred to have seen a remake of about anything else *cough* Omega Boost *cough,* but I don't have a problem with it either since this is a game that many people obviously love.

Same, i even have the PS3 collection cause i don't have ICO on PS2.

But this is rather a weird one. If it's exactly the same game i'm not getting it.

Necessary? No. However if there are people out there that'll enjoy it then I have no problem with that. Personally it's not something I'm interested in though. I tried to get into this with the PS3 version and the game just didn't click with me.

@SolidGame_basic:

Are you kidding? This needed the upgrade BADLY! Sure, even for a ps2 game - it's still playable but it suffered from a lot of framerate drops and lag. The remake of Colossus is freaking beautiful to boot! I'd love to get reacquainted with it all over again like this!

Not super excited but I definitely don't mind. Never played the original SoTC so I'll most likely give it a try. It definitely looks interesting. tbh I would've preferred Ico, though, or even better if they had remade both and released them together it would've further justified the purchase imo

Yes, it's very necessary. If it wasn't for Japanese remakes and games they have have no games outside Uncharted and TLOU.

It's getting hard to track down. I thought it was "If they didn't have VR Games" in another thread. Oh well, Lems and their excuses for anything is becoming increasingly interchangeable.

From what am aware it didn't sell well either time it was released and TLG didn't either so whilst it was a good game I don't see sonys point of remastering it

I would say "not really", but has to be noted there are not a lot of games like that in existence and it's pretty hard not to give a thumbs up to more diversity on the current gen systems.

Getting tired of remakes from the last generation. Grab something from PS2 era if your going to money hat a game from previous hardware or make backwards compatibility a thing.
