For Killzone 1 yes (KZ1  )) but for Killzone 2 it killed Halo 3 IMO.
Short answer, not really.
I think like an article called it that, but not many actually went as far as to actually hype it as a Halo-Killer.
First one was hyped as the Halo killer, and it fell FAR short of that. Second one was just hyped as the graphics king, which can be debated.
HAZE > The whole Halo franchise. No, basically this is how it's goes.
Halo was killed by Halo 2, Halo 2 was killed by Halo 3. Halo 3 will be killed by Halo ODST.
All other console FPS games just fail.

In terms of quality, yes. I can think of a great number of games that are much better than Halo (IMO).
But nothing is going to make as much money as Halo. It was a cultural phenomenon. People who have never played a video game in their life have heard of Halo. That doesnt mean its a better game, just that achieved a level of notoriety financial success that wont be matched for a long time.
However, just because something sells a lot, doesnt mean that its the best--in fact, very far from it.
Halo was killed by Halo 2, Halo 2 was killed by Halo 3. Halo 3 will be killed by Halo ODST.

Killed by ODST??? Halo Wars says hi!!
The general consensus on this site is that Halo 3 is no good, and the first two weren't really anything spectacular either. They will either tell you that Halo 3 killed Halo, or that Halo never needed killing. I have found this to be the general view of the site (except lemmings), but it is in NO WAY a reflection on the general gaming community. Halo rocks!
- I thought CoD would make me stop playing Halo 2, I thought Gears 1 would make me stop playing Halo 2, I thought CoD4 would atleast split time with Halo 3, I thought GTA4 would definitely make me stop playing Halo 3 (single player rules, multi is a joke). I've played a lot of games, and no online console game comes close. The only thing that got worse from Halo 2 to 3 was the community. I know, I know, a lot less screaming teens, but where is the pride? Nobody wants to have 2v2 or 1v1 showdowns!
Only the most rabid PS3 fanboys called KZ2 a Halo Killer the rest were smart enough not to say stuff like KZ2 will be a Halo killer. So besides the people that no one cares what they say or listens to anyways so no it was not called a Halo killer.
Heck I even tried in a few threads to goat people into calling KZ2 a Halo killer and would not happen.

Because Halo Wars is a FPS amirite?
1) TC never mentioned "FPS"
2) Just following the Halo killed Halo line, so what better example for that??
[QUOTE="Mystery_Writer"]no, for a game to kill halo 3 it has to make more than 84 million pounds in 24 hours, sell more than 1.8 million copies in 8 hours and beat a billion online matches in two years.. if so, did it live up to that hype?
delta3074
Halo 3 hasn't even been out for two years.
Was KZ2 hyped as a Halo Killer?
.. if so, did it live up to that hype?

The answer it No. KZ1 for PS2 was hyped like that, but it was actually not the fans or devs, but a game review site, and people stuck to that phrase.
KZ2 for PS3 was not hyped to be any type of KILLER, it was hyped to be a great looking game though.
Did it live up to the hype?
THere is no God of War, Halo, Zelda, Mario, Final Fantasy, Big Franchise R Us Killers, so no, it didn't live up to the hype, because these killers don't exist.
There are no "KILLER" franchises, it's just PR speak.
Was KZ2 an excellent game? Hell yeah.
Was Halo 3 an excellent game? Hell yeah.
NO NEED To compare either game.
Most of the cows of this board? Yes.McdonaIdsGuy
You are a new poster, you weren't here, and you are confusing KZ with KZ2. In any event, you are a new poster without prior knowledge, since I have been here, I will let you know, that No, it was not.
Fake Cow's had a time with it, but that's to be expected.
wasnt hyped as a Halo3 killer, but it did live up to expectations/hype... GG managed to release a visual masterpiece with solid gameplay, good (not great) sp campaign story & awesome mp...
There is no such thing as a halo killer since there are already games out just as good if not better than halo that was around awhile ago now, Killzone 2 is just a very good game that is all.. if so, did it live up to that hype?

Although killzone2 is CLEARLY the better game for someone who has actually taken their fanboy goggles off and played both games, it didn't come anywhere near to halo3 in terms of sales partially because it is an unproven franchise. I think with Halo3-like marketing Killzone 3 would have a very high chance of killing halo3 in terms of sales.
the original one was and that failed miserably, not many hyped Killzone 2 as the killer, but IMHO Killzone has put Halo 3 down to shame in terms of quality. The only thing Halo has under its belt is its sales.
There's no need for any FPS to "kill" Halo 3 imo, I was quite disappointed with it and I think it was totally eclipsed by COD4!
Killzone 2 was hyped as having amazing graphics and loads of action onscreen at once...but ppl were skeptical about the gameplay. I've only played the demo of Killzone 2 but from that I'd say the gameplay's pretty solid and the graphics are pretty stunning!
Between COD4 and Killzone 2 I'd pick Killzone 2 because it has less of a run and gun feel to it, but both are decent FPSs
We've gone over this before....
Killzone 1 was hyped asthe Halo killer, but came out as a mediocore FPS so it was perceived as a huge flop.
For Killzone 2 I think everyone just had their fingers crossed for a good game, and it delivered beyond many's expectations. At least for me I thought it was just going to be as "bad" as the first.
No game should ever be hyped to "kill" another game. Its a stupid concept and anyone who makes that claim seems silly to me. A game should stand alone on its own.SpruceCabooseUnless that same game has a sequel that is lackluster. Like Halo 2...and an even lesser successor on a next gen system... like Halo 3. And then Halo Wars... I don't even have to talk about this game.
