the core would be awesome if the hdd didn't cost $100, if they had a 5 gig drive that cost $40 the core would sell more than the premium.

If their drives were actually similar to the wider market value it would be much better, using Seagate here as they're generally considered the absolute best. For your comparison: Seagate Momentus 5400.3 ST9100828AS 100GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM "Elite" HDD: Seagate Momentus 5400.2 ST9120821AS 120GB 5400 RPM 8MB Cache Serial ATA150 Notebook Hard Drive - OEM

Indeed.  Sony definitely had the right idea in making the PS3 use standard HDD's.

Thats not even taking into account the default warranty which is 5 years on most of Seagate's drives.

Really don't...all things considered you are looking at something like $150-200 just to get it up to spec with the Premium.

If you ever plan on using a wireless controller, or downloading XBL content possibly including XBLA games it is simply not worth it.

Its pretty much discontinued due to higher losses, it was actually a worthwhile hardware package though, the Core 360 isn't.

I would be getting the microcon controller and it's wired anyways, You can't download Arcade games onto a memory card?

Get the Xbox 360 Core, and they make an adapter that turns Microsoft's nasty proprietary SATA connector into an industry standard one. However, no one has figured out a way to use partitions larger than 20GB. So, in essence you'll be using a larger SATA HDD as a 20GB one. Maybe after the Elite 120GB partitions will be supported.

If MS had discontinued the core, droped the price of the Pro, than annouced the Elite..... All would be right in the world of 360 but all would be wrong in the world of their competitors !;)

I think the main reason for the Core was to appeal to markets where broadband saturation is low. Instead of offering these markets a 360 with features they can never use, they thought they'd appeal to everyone, and unfortunately developers have to appeal to the lowest common denomenator.

it was a brilliant marketing move by MS.

by launching the core, they kept the traditional $299 pricepoint of all new consoles, in order to test the waters to see the reaction to the $400 console.

better marketting.  prolly why the 360 is crushing the ps3 in sales.

the worse had to be the VirtuaBoy.... wth was that all about...?

To casuals $299 is less than $399 is less than $499 is less than $599.

Not everyone cares about going online (not everyone has DSL or better).  The $299 Core pack still lets you play the same games that the premium does.  How is this a bad thing?  The WORST move in the history of gaming?  Try $599.

Memory cards are rediculously overpriced, if you want a 360, save up for a hard drive.

News Flash - not everyone wants the Xbox Live experience.  Some just want to play the games.  The Core does that.

The core was a good idea, and it was not as stupid as u all claim.  It gives people a bloody choice instead of saying THIS IS WHAT YOU WANT DEAL WITH IT.  For lower income people it can allow them to get the system, play the games, and just use a memory card.  Your rich, you can afford premium, leave the people who take the other choice alone.

what part of $600 don't you understand???Deepfreezed
The $499 part.

turd pack is useless....

Includes and supports wireless controller - check Standard upgradeable HDD - check 4 usb slots - check blu-ray optics drive cable of 1080p gaming via component cable - check bluetooth technology for wireless peripheral such as mouse, keyboards and headsets - check 10/100/1000 Base T ethernet connection - check backwards compatible with my ps1 and ps2 games - check It's got everything I need for gaming.

Hmm. Technically, this "turd" pack is better than premium 360!
