From what i've played (Only played for a hour thus far as finishing MP2: Echoes which im almost finished with, BEST GAME EVER!!) that the game is good in pretty much every aspect apart from the clunky controls when changing from 1st person to 3rd person view. I read many peoples opinion on Samus and pretty much zero of them thus far match the character which i seen portrayed in the game.

I haven't played it myself...from what I heard the gameplay is good but the story is a ridiculous pile of nonsense.

From what I've heard, yes. Just a bunch of fanboys hating/overexaggurating on any small changes the the formula (it's something EVERY franchise goes through).

No it was legit. The gameplay is solid, but the control idea was stupid from day damn 1. Boss fights were excellent. That story and that dialogue they shoe horned into a Metroid game though? ****ing mistake. What an insult to the greatness that is Metroid That said the boss fights made that game for me. Especially the secret boss. It was so good.

I have it, and I don't like it at all. To me, it plays more like a Ninja Gaiden game than a Metroid. It has wonky controls, relies on cheap thrills, is linear, has minimal exploration, music is subpar, and I'll just say the story is not well presented. This is easily my biggest disappointment of the year, and it's nowhere near as good as Super Metroid, Zero Mission, Fusion, and the Prime Trilogy.

Lol'd at Metroid Prime 2 being better than the first one. I bought the first one years ago, and was glued to the tv for a week, thought it was the best game ever. Then I bought the second one and the dude at Gamestop even told me it wasn't as good as the first, but I still went ahead and bought it anyways....for full price. Played it ONE time for about 20-40 minutes, maybe an hour or so (don't remember), put it down, and NEVER touched it again. It wasn't even a concious decision lol, i just had no desire to touch it again. It failed to pull me in like the first one. That day my gamecube sat in the corner of my room on the floor in a grocery store bag for literally 2 whole years in the same spot before I eventually sold it. The Metroid prime 2 disc was still in it lulz. I painted you that elaborate image just to convey to you how much better the first one was to the second.

I think the game is hated on too much yes, but at the same time I think that it could have been so much more. By the way the game gets WAY better when you get further into it. I had a blast with it and I would say an 8.5 is justified. At times it feels like it should be rated higher, but then at others you see why it isnt a AAAE.

my gripes are:

Team Ninja, Team Ninja, and Team Ninja.

Seriously they have no place in metroid IMO. The game was good fun and did a lot right, but what I thought was wrong was the melee moves, regen health (you point the wiimote up), and so on. I think if Sakamoto was given the game and he developed it with his crew and not with Team Ninja it would have been much better off. Still a great game.

If they are going to go into a third person action game I think it should feel like the primes, but with more action. I know this will never happen (it cant happen really), but I think if Sakamoto and crew teamed up with Naughty Dog to make a Third Person metroid it would be mind blowing.

PS - MoM didnt have enough awesome metroid music.

The hate for MoM was uncalled for.

The game itself is pretty good, it took the series in a good direction, and a sequal where it fixes the problems of the first would be awesome.

Overall though, this is a good game that didn't deserve the hate it got.

Bit unfair to judge one game you played so much of to another game you played 20-40 minutes of. Sure the game could've been hard to get into, but how do you know that it wasn't just a slow start, and that it actually turns out to be an amazing game that exceeds the first in every other way?

I can't remember exactly how Prime 2 starts, but I do remember it being an awesome game. I THINK I still preferred number 1 though, but I can't remember.

The voice acting was sub-par, but not terrible cringe-worthy like Kat in Halo: Reach was.

Worse metroid I have ever played. Would have maybe not felt as dated if it was released last gen. They turned samus into a weak bratty person instead of the strong silent bounty hunter I expected her to be. To each there own I hated it.

Yes and no. From a gameplay perspective, the new "agile" Samus was a strong addition to the series... but the "Team Ninja" design choices were far too evident, and the utter lack of varied design and polish was a huge let down. From a story perspective, there is some great insight into Samus' character... but there is just so much crap at the beginning, and the cringe-worthy encounter with Ridley thatalmost ruined the entire game for me. It is worth playing... but it surely doesn't even come close to matching the other "godly" Metroid games (i.e. Super, Fusion, Prime and Echoes).

There was a lot of potential for greatness... but I think Sakamoto tried to do too much all at once, and hired the perfeclty wrong developers to help them make it (there are so many points where I almost threw the controller down in frustration due to broken design elements). It was a good first step... but it was a rough gem covered in s*** that needed to be cleaned up and cut properly.

As a game on its own merits, it is definitely good... but as a Metroid game it ranks down on the list with the likes of Hunters, Corruption and Return of Samus. It is an insult to the heritage of Metroid... and not from a story perspective either. When the game proper was over, I kept saying to myself "this is what the game should have played like." Pure exploration.

He be crazy. MoM is different, anything which strays from the usual formula usually gets hated. I don't think the story added much, but the gameplay was brilliant, it was cool playing Metroid from a 3rd person view again (not sidescrolling exactly, but good enough). The boss fights were among the best.

Advid-Gamer

This is the problem with why there is so much hate for MoM. Before it there was very little character development if any in the metroid games beside Fusion. So devs made a character that disagreed with what the fans think she should be. Samus just went from being one-dimensional to three-dimensional, whats so bad about that?

Only in terms of atmosphere and speed running. Everything else Echoes does better. Its harder, it has better world design (that isn't Super Metroid copy-pasted, not to mention Sanctuary Fortress) and the bosses are leagues and leagues better than anything in Prime. Not to mention its story actually carries some meaning, and Dark Samus adds a depth to the game that barely any other Nintendo game ever sees (Majora's Mask is the only one that I think can match it).

People rip into Echoes far too much, despite it being the better game. Sure, one can prefer Prime to it... but its an objectively better game. Everything about it is done better than what Retro did in Prime PLUS they took an artistic license with the world.

If anything, I still kind of want Retro back to do an Other M sequel. They get what Gunpei Yokoi was going for in Super in terms of atmosphere... no other developer has come close besides Retro (not even Sakamoto... *cough* Other M *cough*). It is quite obvious given how faithful a recreation Prime is of Super Metroid.

I'd say prime is the overall better game. Echoes is just a bit too dark, and a bit too hard. And it feels disjointed at some points. I'll give you level and boss design though.

Quadraxis anyone? :o

But echoes is still a brilliant game.

I agree 100% with your comments on MP1 vs Echoes. Echoes is challenging me now in the sanctuary Area and im so lost its unreal but its adding to the challenge of the game. MP1 did the same but after 15 minutes of searching for the Items to unlock the Vault to fight Metroid Prime i never got too stuck on the game. I like how dark the game is as it adds more to the feeling of solitude and what may be around the corner waiting for you.

I'd say prime is the overall better game. Echoes is just a bit too dark, and a bit too hard. And it feels disjointed at some points. I'll give you level and boss design though.

Quadraxis anyone? :o

Nah. Its darkness adds to the atmosphere, and its challenge is refreshing... especially on Hard mode. They are both absolutely outstanding games... but Echoes by far better represents Retro's true talents as a developer.

MP2 best game ever? No way MP1 pulverizes MP2.

I think people rip on Echoes for the same reason people rip on Majora's Mask; they're not nearly as accessible, and quite difficult.

Worse metroid I have ever played. Would have maybe not felt as dated if it was released last gen. They turned samus into a weak bratty person instead of the strong silent bounty hunter I expected her to be. To each there own I hated it.

Vaasman

This is the problem with why there is so much hate for MoM. Before it there was very little character development if any in the metroid games beside Fusion. So devs made a character that disagreed with what the fans think she should be. Samus just went from being one-dimensional to three-dimensional, whats so bad about that?

The three dimensional character is unlikeable and melodramatic.

So someone that suffers from post traumatic stress is melodramatic?

I disagree. I found the atmosphere a bit choking. Don't get me wrong, the experience was fantastic and fresh, but it was a bit much.

But, that's what opinions are for :)

And let's not forget corruption, Which I'd say has the best atmosphere of them all. I mean... Skytown Elysia... simply brilliant.

All 3 are just amazing.

maybe not, but someone who gets known by giving the thumbs down at missions briefings is definitely unlikable.

I haven't played it myself...from what I heard the gameplay is good but the story is a ridiculous pile of nonsense.

I've heard that too, but I think the game looks awesome.
