Wat exactly did Microsoft pay for?

I was just on the fallout thread and the discussion came up of microsoft buying everything! all sony fans are quick to jump and say microsoft bought it!....when u make these claims i want proof..all i hear are accusations...some1 said microsoft paid for the resident evil 5 demo!...i know for a fact they paid for gta 4 dlc...i know nothing about resident evil 5 demo and final fantasy 13 and tekken 6 and all the accusations i hear!...sony fans are just mad because 360 will always be better because if that wasnt that the case they wouldnt make such a big deal about it!..now if u can provide a link letting me know what they pay for before u make your claim that would be great!

Sony Fans are just angry, they think developers are loyal to a fault. The believe the almighty Sony has all the answers, and that all devs need to do is rely on them. MS didnt pay for anything,, unless by pay you mean taking market share off Sony, forcing devs to make smarter decision and go multiplat

it matters little to me whether or not there is proof. To me the simple fact that it is available in one and not another can entail that there has to be a benefit. I am not saying it is money, maybe it was programming budget etc. But the bottom line is, every game developer or anyone company who is "selling" something will only benefit from reach a wide range of fans. As a singer I don't care if my songs were bought via internet download or cd but if a company gave me an incentive to choose only one....then I need to make a decision.

What I'm saying is that, there has to be some reason for exclusives and that is usually some sort of incentive. Note incentive doesn't always = money so I understand your hesitance to believe what people claim.

I look at it like Final Fantasy....for a long time Sony gave incentives to keep FFVII etc to themselves. The fact that their ps1 and ps2 sold much much more than any system would give Square a reason to stay. But w/ 360 having sold more than ps3, it was a matter of time before these game companies decide to go multiplat since they could sell more.

Why a company decides to stay and give exclusivity implies they were given an incentive to do so. Maybe they just have a better relationship w/ MS.

I think it was GTA4 and Fallout 3 DLC and that's it. FF13 and Tekken went multi-plat because of the dev's and production costs.

However FF13 not releasing in the states until the 360's development is done is fishy and un-fair. lol @ "because 360 will always be better", calm down nobody likes a fanboy especially one who doesn't know how to use the enter button.angry_fork

SE are trying to maximize the sales of the version which is likely to sell more copies. if it were released in the states first on PS3, then 6 months later on the Xbox, all the hype would be gone, and interest lost. As Xbox has more hold on the US market, it would seem a smarter idea to hold the PS3 version back until the Xbox version was done, then release both at the same time, thus maximizing sales for both platforms.

IMO what is wrong w/ a company paying for things being exclusive? It's business. Nothing under handed. I have the ps3 version of fallout, didn't get it for 360 cuz i don't need extra hours of play for such a long game. I am not angry nor do I make claims, but again i see nothing wrong with someone paying for it. I think if it was the other way around, 360 fanboys would get mad. PS3 owners are no different than xbox owners as far as temperment. When ps2 dominated, xbox owners said xbox is the best because of the build in hard drive, the graphics, etc. PS2 owners would argue and say "if xbox is better why is it a 10 to 1 lead" in sales vs. xbox.

I believe in this gen it is the PS3 owners who are arguing like the first xbox owners did "built in this and that, better technology, etc." While this gen's 360 owners are the ones who say "If ps3 is so good then why is it always out sold by" and the argument goes on and on. Same companies, flipped roles, same argument. People just choose to make one argument valid or not depending on which benefits their situation.

So relax, enjoy your DLC and be happy MS would supposedly pay for your exclusive content. If I were in your shoes, I would cheer them on for doing that to their fan :). As for my ps3 version, I'm disappointed but it doesn't matter, I still have a great time with my game choices be it ps3 or 360 or Wii.

Oblivion only sold like 600K on the PS3 because it was released well after and everyone who wanted to play it had played it. So then they go and make Fallout and shaft the PS3 owners. I prefer gaming on my PS3 and I feel it's kind of a poor move by Bethesda and I'm skipping Fallout on the PC due to thsi poor treatment of gamerswhackedjob213

Oblivion only sold like 600K on the PS3 because it was released well after and everyone who wanted to play it had played it. So then they go and make Fallout and shaft the PS3 owners. i think he was just stating his stance. We do have a right to boycott :). As for last gen, I think it is natural for companies to do this...not saying it is right or wrong, just think it is natural.

MS paid for GFWL/XBL exclusitivity. I can't confirm it but I really doubt that Bethesda would have given them that kind of deal for free. The DLC isn't available anywhere else. Not even Steam, where I bought the full game.

But I'm failing to see the problem. It happens all the time in other businesses.

so far no probs for me on any system and a 10% defect rate, at launch, is acceptable. We already get mad when any electronics has a 50% defect rate at launch. Sony had a reputation like this supposedly in ps2 days. So I can forgive any company for it. Not songy not MS, but the 360 does put things into a new level of defective standards. For so long it happend to about 1 in 3. Not going to argue about the numbers but my friend has owned a game store since NES days so he knows it to be true. Heck even gamestop who are mostly avid 360 fans admit they have replaced theirs a number of times (but this is acceptable to them).

I am not saying the 360 is bad in regards to games. But even as a supporter of the "consumer" (meaning the better all consoles do the better it is for consumers to have their choice), I can't be a lemming and say RROD is acceptable at this stage of 360's life.

All systems have problems, I read about them. I personally never went thru it, but a 33% defect rate sends a statement from MS about how much they really care or lack there of.

On the other hand : To MS's credit, despite this staggering problem, they are still number 2 in sales. So that speaks alot about their strategy. Go 360! But if I get the shaft on RROD, I probably wouldnt be happy lol.

Anywho they have no proof. And it hardly matters it's fine to do so, I find it funny that the inferior DVD9 has more content in it's games than the POWAH of blu-ray and it's mega memory myself. Wasn't that one of the main reasons for including blu-ray? Longer, superior gaming experiances? Funny how it's working out the other way. :lol:
