i heard mass effect is an M in america. that should be a 12 (T i think) like it is in the UK . Us Americans aren't as comfortable with sex as Europeans. So the sex scene in the game earned it the M rating.

Grand Theft auto? Mortal Kombat? Fallout 3? Doom? Manhunt? what I'm trying to say is the esrb rates stuff pretty well. If it's rated M for mature audience than it probably has stuff in it that is not approitae for younger children. ie: lots of blood, sex, and language.
It's been a while since I've played any game in the Halo series,but they honestly seemed more like T-rated games to me.
I think they could've gotten away with a Teen rating their wasn't that much blood (From what I can remember) Their wasn't that much swearing if it was a tv series it Could've been rated TV PG Which the videogame equivalent to a PG rating is E10+ (Everyone 10 and Up)

I think Halo just makes M because of the profanity (which can be pretty bad if you get the right combination of randomly chosen Marine lines) rather than the blood.
Uncharted 2 you can stab people in there necks and shoot guns and it's rated T, but Halo is liek on par with it's violence and it's rated M. Silly ERSB :P. Gears of War is one of the games that need a M logo.

Ninja Gaiden 2, that game's combat was so ridiculously gnarly. The Gears of War of action games, except for more violent. Enemies you thought you had defeated by slicing off their legs would utilize their upper torso and crawl at you with an exploding shuriken. Awesome.
