Watch Dogs Delayed To Spring 2014

Following is a statement directly from the Watch_Dogs development teams.

Our ambition from the start with Watch_Dogs has been to deliver something that embodies what we wanted to see in the next-generation of gaming. It is with this in mind that we’ve made the tough decision to delay the release until Spring 2014.

We know a lot of you are probably wondering ‘why now?’ We struggled with whether we would delay the game. But from the beginning, we have adopted the attitude that we will not compromise on quality. As we got closer to release, as all the pieces of the puzzle were falling into place in our last push before completion, it became clear to us that we needed to take the extra time to polish and fine tune every detail so we can deliver a truly memorable and exceptional experience.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all of you. We thoroughly enjoy and appreciate the way you respond on the web, at events, press conferences and during other opportunities we have to interact. Your passion is what drives us.

We can’t wait to see you in Chicago next Spring. We are confident you’ll love this game as much as we love working on it.

Damn, I just Googled this figuring it was one of your troll posts....but it's true. That really blows I was looking forward to getting this with the new console launches. I wonder what kind of issues they were having that required this delay.

Well this blows. I was looking forward to playing this. Guess it gives me more time to enjoy Sonic: Lost Worlds and Assassin's Creed 4 then.

This is actually great news. Between Post GTA V and Assassin's creed IV ect...Watch Dogs was being sent to die.

Now there's time to invest on performance. Make PS4 and X1 versions 60fps, or 1080p, or both (like every next gen should be), and i'll consider getting it.

it was kind of expected with such tight window release for an open-world game is never good. Especially an open world game that will release on as many different consoles as this one.

WHAT THE ****!?! This is definitely because of AC4, which nobody gives a shit about. Seriously, this was the only multiplat aside from BF4 that looks actually improved on next gen consoles over current gen ones.

I probably won't even buy this anymore since it's releasing in such a bad time for me. Destiny and Infamous Second Son are both confirmed to be launching in the Spring and both look much better than this game. That's $120 right there. And what if The Witcher 3 or MGS5 launches in the Spring? This game is going to get massacred.

It went from being the must have fall title that isn't called GTA5 to completely dominated by a sea of better games in the Spring.

They need more time to make windows breakable.

Either that or they need more time to downgrade the graphics.

I wasn't aware Destiny was launching in Spring. If that's the case then this game will end up being passed on for me until it gets cheaper. It's also worth noting Titanfall is also a spring title. I honestly don't know what Ubisoft was thinking.

Could you give me a quick list ? I used to be able to see what games I was following were about to release in the coming months, unfortunately I can't seem to do that on the new gamespot :(

@TwistedShade: Yep, Bungie confirmed it when they announced the beta. And I might pick up Titanfall as well for PC or 360.

What is there to buy for next gen consoles this fall now? There's Killzone, BF4, CoD, and AC4 for PS4 (all shooters and rehashes) and there's Forza 5, DR3, BF4, CoD, and AC4 for X1 (rehashes, a racing game, and something that may or may not be good)

Probably be forced to select a new game with the bundle.

That was... unexpected, thought Chaz was trolling a little, but GS front page says the same.

Still, not too bothered, November is already overcrowded with new releases, the game could actually benefit from this, as long as they use the extra time for something useful.

Call of Duty, Both of the Next Gen Consoles have atleast 3+ Exclusives each. Zelda Link Between worlds, Mario 3D World, Ratchet and Clank, BF4 comes near end of October so lets add it, Need for Speed, Mario Party 3DS, Tearaway, Zumba, Injustice, Just Dance 4. And many more.

Definitely a lot of games coming out but given how this is right before the Holidays it would seem like the perfect time for them to launch. They're still going to be hurt with all the great games coming out in Spring.

Dark Souls 2 is releasing in spring too, they really need to rethink this lol.

That's a lot of sequels. And a good year or so ago the publishers and developers were begging for a new gen to start so they could have platforms to make some original IP on ...

I thought the same thing but I will still be buying it as I like this concept alot and this gives more time for polish and better implementations. It went from a competitive launch date to a super competitive launch date because now it will be competing with the pretty much guaranteed GOTY 2014, Super Smash Bros 4.

And here I thought I had something to keep me occupied till GTA V... Oh well more time for Batman and DOTA 2 I guess.

I'm kinda happy it got delayed, the closed doors demo I saw at Comic Con was ok but not great. The Game definitely needed some major polish.

@nini200: That's confirmed for the Spring? I hope it is so Nintendo could actually push X as their big Holiday title. I would not be suprised if the Wii U version of Watch Dogs gets canceled anyway.

This is good news. Hopefully they use this time to polish the game up and make it great. It's only a few months.

They probably delayed the game so it wouldn't cut into AC4 sales. Watch Dogs was basically Gold. They would have known about a delay months before hand, not a month before release. I highly doubt they need 4 extra months to "polish" up the game. Sounds like bullocks to me.

At this rate I wouldn't be suprised if The Division gets delayed to Spring 2015 to make room for Assassin's Creed 5. **** Ubisoft.

Not 100% but I vaguely remember someone saying it was a spring 2014 release.

Now that I research it, I can't find anything so scrap that. Yet the issue gets even worse because Mario Kart 8 is confirmed for a Spring 2014 release.

For the first time ever, I am pissed about a game delay. Dammit, Ubisoft. I even upgraded my PC in anticipation of this. This was my most anticipated game of the year, and now you're releasing it just after my long vacation ends. Damn you. :@

@nini200: Keep in mind that SSBB and Mario Kart Wii released around a month between eachother.

Oh darn. Only 14 games left to choose from on Day 1 and 32 games left to choose from in the Launch Window.

Not to mention 9 free games from PS+.

True and if so, this will be a seriously difficult release for any competing game.

I'm sure Ubi will bring it to the WiiU though as they have brought all their other games to it as well.

This actually reminds me of the Rayman Legends delay that in the end, caused the game to sell less. Hopefully Watch Dogs will sell well enough to establish a franchise because I love the concept of Watch Dogs.

Sounds like they saw some stuff GTA V did and realised there's wasn't up to snuff
