My God Nintendo had a rough day. First Pacman gets cancelled and now this. I guess people were not impressed with Nintendo's meeting yesterday.
Come on 3rd parties....Please understand?

http://gonintendo.com/?mode=viewstory&id=221453

Thanks so much for your support of Batman: Arkham Origins on Wii U.

We are contacting you today because you purchased the Batman: Arkham Origins Season Pass for Wii U. We hope you’ve been enjoying the content that has been delivered thus far. Based on demand for Downloadable Content on the system, Warner Bros. Interactive Entertainment has made the decision to remove its offering of the upcoming new story campaign for Wii U. As a result, we will be crediting the entire $19.99+tax cost of the Season Pass back to your Nintendo eShop account. You will still be able to enjoy the content already released thus far.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause and thank you for your support of the game.

Sincerely,

Nintendo of America Inc.

I never bought my two Wii Us to buy 3rd party games that I can play on other machines with better online/DLC/features/support.

Not a big deal to me, but I can see those that only have a Wii U could be in for a rough ride by the lack of 3rd party support. They should have done more research.

For me, the Wii U is this generations N64/Gamecube/Wii. Good or bad, take that as you will.

Ouch. That's gotta sting for all the people who own one who have been trying to buy third party games on the system to make something happen. But this was inevitable. Wii sold far better, and even it ended up being abandoned. So what hope did the borderline dead Wii U ever have?

Yeah I am sure the 4 people who bought this are pissed.

I know people only buy Nintendo systems for 1st party games (Yeah right) but since Nintendo haven't really supported the system either I think it is fair to say this thing is dead now.

@timbers_WSU: Nintendo came out with more exclusive titles this year than any of the big three.

I doubt they came out with more than Sony. Unless you are trying to count 3DS games too.
But please understand.........When there is no 3rd party games on the system, 3 or 4 games a year really isn't very appealing.

3DS is an entirely different beast. But six exclusive games released for the ps3 this year, eight if we're including ps4. The Wii U had nine exclusive titles. I'm sure I'm missing a few on both sides, and I included exclusives, not first parties, seeing that Lego City isn't from a first party studio, just like Beyond: Two Souls didn't come from a first party studio.

Either way, it's basically the same number on both sides. So, I suppose neither of us is right.

I almost bought this on Wii U because it was cheaper thanks to the lack of the shit multiplayer. Thank god I went for PS3, if only to not have that awkward split on the shelf at the time.

I wasn't aware story DLC was planned....might get it on sale. Harley Quinn's Revenge was hardly revolutionary.

This is a joke on WB's behalf. How do you cancel a season pass half way through? And they're only giving you the money back in wii-shop points? I'd demand money be put into my hand if I was screwed over like that. Really unacceptable and a poor showing by WB.

@senses_fail_06: anyone buying a season pass is already saying "take my money for undisclosed content of any quality that you have no idea about so far"

In short, buying season passes to begin with is asking for trouble.

Typical on this thread. Damage control, acting like its the fault of WB and acting like they hated the game anyway. Every time there is an issue. Nintendo could send some hired goons to destroy your house and you'd argue the virtue of homelessness.

Can't say I blame them if the sales of the game on Wii U were poor or if their insights indicated that the DLC wouldn't sell on the console.

Arkham Origins was a lot of fun. I'll probably pass on the DLC (never did get Harley's Revenge for Arkham City like I wanted) but if it's solid I just may have to check it out.

Pretty sad.

Though the smart thing those few who bought the season pass and got refunded should do is support Indies through that awesome indie sale they got going right now.

So the worst game in the arkham series isn't going to get DLC on the worst game system on the market right now? I don't see a problem, or anything surprising.

LOL.
DLC's are like the easiest money to be had for a game. One of many cancellations for the Wii U either.

It's probably a blessing in disguise for those unfortunate enough to be duped into buying a season pass, as $19.99 should be able to purchase much better gaming content than this dlc will end up being. It still sucks, though. If WB is going to offer a season pass for DLC, they should support their game with DLC.

Ouch!!! I waited upon Batman AC on the WiiU for the free DLC, Kinda backwards that a previous jnstallment has more content than the new installment. I will wait a couple more months and pick it up out the bargain bin for £15 / 20.

Batman and Superman are for kids in the same way that chocolate and paper are fire retardant.

Warner Bros aren't wasting their time with that console because it's not worth the time and effort it would take to develop the DLC for it.

It is dumb, but selling content in advance and then deciding to not provide that content is just really low.

You clearly know nothing of Batman. That stuff isn't for kids at all. It's far too dark and psychologically messed up for kids. I mean the joker just recently had his own face cut off and a year later he broke into the GCPD to get it back. Now he wears his own rotting face like a mask just to make a point to Batman.

Having said that, I wouldn't say the plot lines in the Arkham series are up there with the good comic book stories from the likes of Frank Miller or, more recently, Scott Snyder, but the gameplay is top tier Nintendo quality stuff. The level design (in the first two) is superb and the gameplay is easy to learn yet hard to master. Rocksteady is following in Nintendo's footsteps.

I personally don't think any game is to kiddy for anybody as long as you enjoy the gameplay. I seriously have no idea how you could mock a Batman game for being kiddy and praise Nintendo. That's called having double standards

P.S. in any case, this is why I bought Arkham Origins on PS3. I knew it wasn't going to get support on Wii U.

Wut?

The beauty of comics and super heroes and what-not is how many different audiences they can target. While Death of the Family, the Arkham games, and the Nolan films may not be acceptable for all children, Batman: Brave and the Bold is perfect for children and adults.

Anyways, yeah the Death of the Family arc was an awesome read. The Joker was fantastic in it, capturing what I've always wanted the Joker to be perfectly.

and the awesome Adam West tv show, but I'm just saying that the character at his core is pretty mature and dark. The character's source material (the comics) contain his most adult content and it's that content that the Arkham series is heavily based on.

P.S. yeah I really enjoyed the Death of the Family run, but I still prefer Scott Snyder's court of owls. It introduced an amazing new threat and explored Bruce's possessive feeling over Gotham. That was so interesting. But yeah, they completely nailed the Joker. He was exactly the way I wanted him. Just the right mixture of psychotic and clown.

Oh yeah, I totally agree with you. :P Parents bread and creating a persona around fear, backs breaking and faces being skinned off isn't suitable content for the wee-younguns.

well i know which developer im not supporting ever the hell again , thanks for the heads up tc and no its not nintendos fault any one who thinks 3rd parties shall not be held liable for the quality of their product is insane,

lets start with mass effects handeling- ya it was really smart to charge 60 and offer ps3 and 360 trillogys at the same exact price,

and it was really really smart to ship madden 13 without certain modes,

then there was missing content in ac3 , and no dlc for bo 2 ,

ya cant blame nintendo for the crap handling 3rd parties do , thats a fact ,

not a single launch 3rd party game out side nfs mw u and zombi u were actually good

In this case, people who did their research and own a Wii U/PS3/360 could have easily chosen to purchase the Wii U version for the extra tablet functionality, given that WB games said that they were going to fully support that version with DLC and even offered a season pass. It's hardly their fault that WB was dishonest.

@PurpleMan5000: They were not knowingly dishonest. They would not have released it in the first place if they didn't believe there was a chance the game was going to sell, but it didn't, and they've obviously had to do a u turn on further development when they weighed up the costs.

Once again, its Nintendo's fault for their past mistakes thereby leaving their latest console under supported by hardcore fans, and the existing fans "fault" for not buying the game in number, if you can call it fault.

Sad for those losing out but there it is.

@SolidTy: I notice since we on forums look to research things about games, consoles that I sometimes forget that the vast majority do not. There may be some people out there that bought Nintendo's sales pitch about getting great third party support with a wiiu. From my own gaming tastes and reading, I could never own just a WiiU.

It's strange to me as well, the idea of dropping hundreds of dollars on something and not doing any research on the product, but that's how some folk roll.

In this case, people who did their research and own a Wii U/PS3/360 could have easily chosen to purchase the Wii U version for the extra tablet functionality, given that WB games said that they were going to fully support that version with DLC and even offered a season pass. It's hardly their fault that WB was dishonest.

Actually, if they did their research they would have come across WB's other game offerings on Wii U like Batman and Injustice and found the online/DLC to be lacking.

I know I did my research on those previous WB Wii U titles and knew going in WB has been sketchy the entire time with Wii U. I did think it was possible that THIS time, this WB game may get the goods, but alas it wasn't in the cards.

If they bought this WB game and did no research on WB's Wii U titles and trusted WB's PR it sucks sure (and I didn't deny that), but research on WB's games on other platforms and Wii U would have saved them the time. Then we look at Nintendo's 3rd party legacy from N64, Gamecube, and Wii...it seems that particular buyers had nearly two decades to make some observations about Nintendo's 3rd party support. The Wii U also has been surrounded by cancelled games since it was released last year. It's a bummer and I'm a Wii U owner, but I'm not surprised at all. The Tablet functionality is a nice gimmick, but unless a game is designed exclusively around the Tablet, it's usually just a novelty, something a Wii U owner should have also noticed. This Batman game was a multiplatform game designed for other machines and ported to Wii U as opposed to Wonderful 101 or Pikmin 3 which were designed for Wii U's Tablet.

Also, another thing that potential buyer should know was that trusting any company PR from WB or Nintendo or Sony or Capcom or whoever is asking for trouble. Since I'm here, other recent news, Pac-Man Museum, an online potential e-shop title. is getting cancelled on Wii U/3DS. I only posted that as a recent example of 3rd party news buyers should keep in mind that constantly pop up when buying Wii U games. That's also an example of an online title for Wii U. Buying 3rd party can be a risky proposition on Wii U, and I knew this before the Wii U was released.

Then we also have to take into consideration the design aspects of the Wii U itself, as the super small storage solution Nintendo chose themselves in the design for their own Wii U console isn't helping promote digital sales on their platform, especially when the competition HDD sizes are so much larger, begging for digital purchaes. Nintendo's own poor handling of the Nintendo Network ID's where your games aren't tied to your ID queue, but rather stuck on your Wii U also would and should give digital buyers pause. I know after owning two Wii U's, nintendo's design has adversely affected me and therefore I don't buy Wii U digital games now.

There are a lot of variables to consider on why this DLC issue is an issue, but rest assured clues are there for consumers to consider.

I will make sure I say this because your last sentence...It's WB's fault for sure, but luckily those gamers will be getting a refund. My point a LOT of information was out there if consumers wanted it. WB did the misdeed, it's their fault, but consumers shouldn't be shocked if they did their due diligence. WB didn't set out to be dishonest, but after evaluating the finances, they had to make a tough call with the Wii U's version.

Third parties make it so hard to support them.

Why ? you sheep say it all the time.. "lol buying other games besides nintendo's on the console". Thus, this is what you get, anyone else besides nintendo is likely to end up losing developing for Nintendo. It might sell great for mario but not everyone else.

This is different, because WB actually took their money in advance for the DLC. Sure, they returned the store credit, but really, they should be offering alternate versions of the game as well. I'm just glad I didn't get the Wii U version.
