Adults only 18+. Why dont devs forget about the stupied M rating and do whatever they want. Its 1 year. (we all know 17 yearolds will play them anyway)
Its one year. This would also shut the politicians up

Because some game stores don't stock them, I think. It's also hard to find a publisher, I believe.
And then there's the fact that they can't be on consoles, as said above.
Good question. I think it's mainly due to gamestop, their policy of not selling any of them(yes some do exist) discourages all the devs from making it.
I hope in some point though a game arrives with an AO rating that is so artistic and so good that retailers would be stupid to not sell it, breaking a long held tradition. It's like the film industry in a way, when that happens it'll be a breakthrough I'm sure.
What's the difference between AO and a normal 18 rating that we get in the UK?bdum_pshhhI think PEGI's 18 rating is a lot more like ESRB's M.
You're missing some posts, MS, Sony, and Nintendo do NOT allow AO games on their systems. There are AO PC games and most of them are porn games that are not stocked in game stores.ITS ONE YEAR. I dont know one 17 yearold who would change there gaming prefs beacuse of 1 year

Because Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo won't allow AO games on their platform.AAllxxjjnnYup, all of them are pansies and Target, Walmart, etc. are included in being pansies. Some parents are morons as well as government officials. Pile all of that together and you get the lack of AO games.

Each console company has a policy against it on their console/handheld. AO games are PC only.

Really? I have an AO game on PS One. And yes, it`s porn. Just don`t ask how I got it.

I had this game for my Dreamcast named BMX XXX. That had a whole bunch of scenes with girls gone wild type flashing and things like that. It's not the consumer that is the deterent for Ao games, its the bad publicity and protests made against the game, the lack of publishing support and the stores and rental stores that will not stock your product.ITS ONE YEAR. You do realize that Manhunt 2 was going to be deemed AO because of the violence, not because of sexuality.
It's a form of self-censorship, which as per usual has its roots in corporate interests and in the name of profits. There's nothing to suggest that an AO game couldn't be commercially successful if done right and with taste, but the fallout with the perceived notion of gaming still as an infantile hobby would be damaging.
Yup, all of them are pansies and Target, Walmart, etc. are included in being pansies. Some parents are morons as well as government officials. Pile all of that together and you get the lack of AO games. I would actually be with them on that kind of arguement. Why would I like it if porn games are as accessible as Super Mario Galaxy at Best Buy?[QUOTE="AAllxxjjnn"]Because Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo won't allow AO games on their platform.doomsoth
All major retailers forbid the sale of AO games on their shelves. They don't feel the need to tell me what movies I can and can not buy (R, 18A and "Unrated" films are always scattered amongst PG and G rated ones)... but when it comes to games, they feel like they need to lord over my right as an adult to choose freely.
It is because gaming still has the stigma "games are for kids" despite the average gamer age being 33 and the majority of the market leaning towards the adult crowd.
I would actually be with them on that kind of arguement. Why would I like it if porn games are as accessible as Super Mario Galaxy at Best Buy?lebanese_boy
who needs AO anyway?
mutilated corpses, decapitated heads and blood -> mature rating
the F, S and the very forbidden N word -> mature rating
womens naked breasts and backsides -> mature rating
if you want to see more female nudity or male nudity theres always other media
Because Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo won't allow AO games on their platform.AAllxxjjnnThat's pretty much the reason why. There are also several retailers that won't put those type of games on their shelves. There has been AO games on the PC however. Most of those titles have to be purchased from their websites.
i want them all in one!who needs AO anyway?

blowing up naked chicks as i ride my mutated horse shouting racist swears at starving slaves and taking lots of drugs. sounds like the game for me :D
The main reason why there are very little AO games is because Jack Thompson is really annoying, and the last thing anyone wants to do, is listen to Jack Thompson

I would modify the "Adults Only" rating's age to 21+, since most people are supossed to become adult both biologically & psychologically at that age. Even so, as far as I've read, gaming consoles barely have titles rated "Ao" (SONY claims they don't allow for "Ao" games in the PS family). I guess most of those games are found at sex shops, mostly for PCs.

The thing with this is that the only major differenes between "M" ratings & "Ao" ratings is that "Ao" ratings contain much more explicit sex than "M" ratings (they're mostly violent & gory).

Really? Because I don't remember sex having anything to do with Manhunt 2 originally getting the AO rating."Titles rated AO (Adults Only) have content that should only be played by persons 18 years and older. Titles in this category may include prolonged scenes of intense violence and/or graphic sexual content and nudity."
Straight from the horse's mouth. Yet, you guys continue to state that it's only sexual material that gets the AO rating. *rolls eyes*
They should just relabel the rating system to the MPAA rating system everyone knows and hold games to the same standards as movies. E="G", E 10+="PG", T= "PG-13", M="R", AO="NC-17". All the complaining is from those who don't understand that gamers encompass the entire spectrum of ages now rather than just 15 year old boys. They want games that contain identical things to R rated movies rated AO or the equivilent of "NC-17" or the former "X".Adults only 18+. Who cares? AO games suck 100% of the time, as developers use the sheer amounts of blood gore, and sex to hide poor gameplay. If a game starts of as an AO game, and is good, then the devs will take out some of the more adult content. I.e Fahrenheit, San Andreas.
I once played a game for the PS1 called Thrill Kill, it was a brutal poorly designed brawler, the only fun came from the gore at the end of the battles.

Plus, there really haven't been very many AO games to begin with: link.
