I totally agree, I'd love to be smacked in the face with emotion by a game. I'm still waiting for a game that is going to make me cry (and not because it's so bad hehe). It is time for real writers to write convincing emotional stories for games. And I don't mean only love stories, but also more mature themes like abuse, rape, post traumatic stress syndrome. Silent Hill 2 was a step in the right direction
I'd like to see some more love subplots in games too, I think there are plenty of opportunities to tell a good love story using videogames if done right.

ehh, I think a GOOD story should be the number one concern, then a love sub-plot if it can coincide in a way with the main story so that it isn't forced, cliched, or just plain bad

A whole bunch of games have had love stories. One of the more recent ones, was The Darkness. When you sit with Jenny on the couch and watch To Kill A Mockingbird; I thought that part was pretty amazing.
RPG's are where you find the most love in video games.
It would be nice to see a shift away from the big hulking steroid induced machismo roid ragers and perhaps more heart felt heroes who do what they do for love and honor, instead of revenge and blind soldier "do as your told" do your duty stuff.
Sure there are love themes in some games, but they're not that convincing most of the times. That's probably because the dialogue in games is usally pretty weak and unrealistic. If you pay close attention to what is actually said in dialogue and how the characters react to events in a game, it's actually pretty bad and sad.
