We remaining users should save System Wars from dying

Popular Trolls, Funny users left. Favourite mods are talking about leaving. Classic users are complaining that this forum is dead. This I gathered in one of my topics about popular users.

It has been dead for quite sometime and has been in zombieland for years.

I forgot lostrib was a person who existed, just noticed his thing on the right side.

Lundry is the top poster which surprises me. Not even on the list, even though spam low effort shit round the clock, think this might be fixed.

Maybe the mods allow everyone still here to have an ALTer ego lol.

Bring back the unions from the og days. (If anyone even remembers those)

The forum needs more people for that, and it's not going to get it. The few of us left can visit as long as it's still around, but to get these forums back to what they were before GameSpot sabotaged it is not going to happen.

The forum consists of like 20 people. Not sure what a bunch of empty unions would do.

Are forums in general even that popular anymore? Feels like people are more into things like Reddit and Discord.

If it falls it falls, it's up to more dedicated users and anyone with some push to do something about it.

In a prior thread I pitched some ideas because frankly the sites issue is they're outdated and living in the past. 2005 it is not. At this point no reason Discord, Twitch, and Reddit shouldn't be integrated into the site completely; all they've got is side links to equally outdated sites: Flipboard and Facebook. The Twitter feed as well isn't active enough to have any impact. Sad truth is they need to get with the times for any worthwhile growth.

I'm only really on Game Spot still for some variety when talking about games. Way more active on alternative platforms, but for what it is Game Spot community has more pros than cons. Not really one to care for 'moar' for the sake of 'moar' at anycase. However many of the more active users are pretty one dimensional, just repeating themselves to be snarky a-holes, so it would be nice to add new users to shake up the monotony.

Best way to look at it is you could enjoy a nice healthy dinner but sometimes you just want a sasebo burger (current Game Spot is the burger fyi)

When I troll I picked on a user so much that someone made an alt to hate me lmao. Kinda stop posting new threads and just coming by to see updates and have conversations. Xbox is dead, hermit is irrelevant and sheeps barely come.

It's nearly the end really. PS and Xbox are getting out of the exclusives and console race and going third party. It would end up being a Nintendo only forum.

If my quality posts, top humor, and inspired original content couldn't save this place then nothing can

Forums are a thing of the past I feel like. People flock to twitter, reddit, or something else to debate and talk about shit.

I know I have been a scrooge lately...

But topics at least have gotten better......No more ranting in all caps n such.

Way too many posters and impossible to keep up with a discussion, stupid upvoting and popularity contests, dogpiling. reddit is way too overmoderated and dull, discord is real-time and still too many people, everything has too many channels, people just reposting memes all day

What do you want to talk about though? Games being $80/90 bucks, hardware shortages/scalpers, the near-imaginary console war, horrid company work culture, etc.?

There's nothing that quite hits like in the old days when factions were claiming "ownage" if a game scored 9.3 over another that scored 9.1. :P

i'm mainly here due to the nostalgia of visiting this site for a couple decades.. that said, the forum is a shell of its former self..

mostly, there's just not much to talk about in terms of "System Wars" (ie "console wars" that includes PC).. PlayStation won the console war with the PS4 and PC won System Wars overall with software support from both Xbox and PlayStation..

at this point, there's just the people who realize that gaming in general is going more and more multiplatform and then there's the people who are still clinging to the past.. and overall, there's just not much to discuss as these two groups rehash the same talking points over and over again..

yea, I think thats pretty much the long and short of it.

the forums will continue to slowly fizzle until GS inevitably goes under like most old-school gaming sites.

yes, but Nintendo hasn't been in direct competition with either Sony or Microsoft since the introduction of the Wii.. the GameCube was their last traditional console.. after that, by their own admission, Nintendo started targeting a different audience..

and that concept has been solidified with the Switch by basically creating a new device category of hybrid/handhelds.. outside of PC handhelds, Nintendo is essentially in a market all to themselves..

I think we should solidify an escape plan, maybe someone make a Reddit community for GSSW expatriates when it goes bust.

What a dumb take, if you walk into a game store and see Xbox, Playstation and Switch consoles & games on the shelves then they ARE in direct competition, it's just plain dumb to think otherwise, why am I not surprised that you think this way.

Nintendo said they have exited direct competition with PlayStation and Xbox.. PlayStation and Xbox have said they don't see Nintendo as direct competition.. that's the beginning and end of it..

from there, you can feel free to spout your personal opinions and your personal speculations all you want.. this is indeed a forum.. but just realize that's all they are: opinions and speculation..

ultimately, your personal opinion doesn't change the fact that Nintendo's "official" stance is that they are no longer in direct competition with Xbox or PlayStation because they have carved out a new/different market for themselves..

It's really simple, a video game console that is on the market is in direct competition with other consoles on the same market at the same tine whether they say they are or not, their opinion is irrelevant, that's the facts.

Again, providing the public statements from the actual companies is how the baseline is established for objective discussion..

the Nintendo Switch is primarily marketed as a handheld.. "mobile gaming" is the primary selling point.. are the PS5 and the Xbox Series X|S marketed as mobile handhelds?.. no.. they are not.. so Nintendo is correct and your opinion is irrelevant; that's the facts..

I've been a member since 2009 but I am shocked this forum is still even around. The glory days was at least a decade ago if not more.

That's us as well.

SW was specifically designed for societal rejects from that obese Kane and Lynch man who never cleans himself. It was designed to get the undesirables away, in a specific section.

But big brain didn't take into account it would become the most popular section because, shockingly, people like conflict and tribalism.

I was here before the layout change under the name Rockydog79 and a lot of people left when that happened. I've seen people come and go. I don't post too often, but I visit the site daily. It seems like less and less daily posts are happening. Forums in general are dying thanks to Reddit and Discord, but I'll be here until the end.

I would love to see the GS forums thrive again like before the layout change, but folks have moved on.

GameSpot came about in the 90s, before YouTube, social media, Twitch, Reddit, etc. It was one of the few places you can go online to get information about games. GameSpot used to have something unique to offer, like the Unions, user boards, etc. The game reviews used to also be highly respected. But things changed. There was the Kain and Lynch controversy which they fired a highly regarded reviewer. And slowly over time all of the respected reviewers left. They also did the 2013 revamp of the website which stripped out all of those unique features the users used to have. And then yea, there were just so many other places you can go to find gaming news and reviews. People want real reviews, not reviews that could be heavily influenced by sponsors. Today, GameSpot is pretty much as bland of a gaming site as you can get. I’m almost somewhat surprised that it’s still around.
