It definitely needs 3rd party support.
What happens when media attention and hype switch to PS3/360 with games like GTAIV, GT5, Halo 3, FFXIII, MGSIV etc?
Media focus atm is a huge drive in Wii sales. And not to mention if the Wii doesn't get 3rd party support that also means less games to play.
Nintendo at this point doesnt need thord party exclusives to win this generation. In fact they dont even need hard core gamers to get to 20+ million consoles sold. third parties are the iceing on the cake. and it doesnt matter if they jump on board or not wii is here to stay.jessmo30_basic

You're right. Non gamers go to where the advertisements/media tell them to. Atm, Nintendo has, by far, the strongest hold in both those.
But that won't be the case next year, and Nintendo will need more quality games to keep interest. Even for non gamers.

No my next game will be either god father or scarface. But I would be playing paper mario or aomthing else if theird parties didnt have anything. NIn doesnt need third parties and they dont need the hard core. we dont matter anymore.
And i cant say I blame them. hard core gamers have treated nintendo really bad.

How big is the market? Is it bigger than the casual/hardcore market?
We don't know. My point is that Nintendo will have to keep non gamers interested, and they do need help from 3rd parties. How do we know that non gamers don't lose interest quickly.?
Think about it. They were non gamers for a reason.

For how long? Do they need more games? Do they need less? We don't know, but it's best to keep the 3rd party support coming for obvious reasons.

How much good attention do any of those games receive? You sing the prasie of GTA yet you dont seem to recall it was almost banned in 99% of the world last gen for a pathetic " hot coffee " stunt. Honestly MGS4? when has that ever made the news? Never thats right!
Now am going to say one game here, that this gen alone has gotten more priase and media attention then every game you have ever listed.

In fact this is a moment of zen. /Zen

It needs good 3rd party support to keep me happy playing it and that's all that realy matters cuz I'm a me monster.LINKlocoRight. I mean, Nintendo is great and all, but they just can't make enough great games fast enough.

The negative press on GTA is what makes it sell so well, and media attention will switch to GTAIV when it arrives. I never said anything about "good" media attention.

Well that's my point, it does need 3rd party support.
My expectations are that third party support needs to be at least, and I mean at least around double the level of support the Gamecube was getting. But who knows, maybe some new faces may show up we've never seen before. Those Wii development kits are cheap, right? And it's continually at the top of the monthly sales figures.
It may be a bunch of shovelware but there may be quite a few gems in all of that. But it does matter.

yes nintendo does if they want to winI think you would be surprised how quickly the wii would fall off because of lack of third party support. The initial buyers of a system are the ones that are wowed bya system and all its newness (not just the wii btw). If the system doesn't have the games, then it wont get that sweetspot that ps2 had, where they managed to have sale surges all through its life. You have to keep stoking that fire.Nintendo's first party isn't enough. eg. 2008 looks sparse atm moment in terms of first party.(yeah I know, e3, we will see. But remember the gc)
