Welcome Back. Playstation 3 has been Hacked Again!

Reports are emerging that the PlayStation 3 has been hacked once again in the form of a successor to the original PSJailbreak, dubbed "JB2".

Similar to the first hack, JB2 apparently takes the form of a USB dongle that plugs directly into the PS3 and compromises the system on power-up. Videos released so far of the device in action appear to show an extended boot -up period before the XMB finally appears, featuring a number of options only available to developer consoles, allowing for the installation of unsigned code.

According to sources, the dongle has undergone a small launch in Indonesia ahead of a global roll-out, with a small range of pirate games including titles like PES 2012, Driver: San Francisco, God of War Collection Volume II and FIFA 12 being made available. The notion of limited titles being available may suggest that the games are being reverse-engineered, and that only some games may work with the new hack. Alternatively, the makers may simply be releasing the latest games first in order to maximise revenues with the small window of opportunity available before Sony legal gets on the case.

I don't even care. Real gamers don't give a crap about hacking. They play games with friends and support the developers that make them. Thus, in my opinion if you pirate games, you don't deserve to play them...period.nightshade869

Another reason why it was so stupid for Sony to take away the OtherOS function. It was going to happen anyway and maybe they could have faced the problem intelligently avoiding making thousands of enemies in the process that later went on to hack their service. I hope Sony learned their lesson and doesn't try to take away another feature from the machine to "protect" us.kuraimen

Sure, everything that happens to Live is social engineering, while everything that happens to PSN is hacking, even when it's social engineering.

Sure, everything that happens to Live is social engineering, while everything that happens to PSN is hacking, even when it's social engineering.

Not everything but recent xbl hackings were social engineering, mostly from hotmail. PSN security issues are much more serious.

I agree that I don't like hacking, but to say real gamers "don't give a crap" is a bit untrue. Problem is when the hackers start infecting multiplayer games.

It's ok, Activision makes the dongle, and they publish the M rated COD series so it makes sense. They'll milk it all.

All of these hacks and dongles require specific firmware versions, so it really doesn't seem like a good idea to ever purcahse one of these since a simple update can deactivate it.

At first I assumed you meant the Playstation Network was compromised again (because of the "Welcome Back" program following the hack) :P
