I am a hermit but even I must say these are very impressive from a console no less. GT5 makes even GTR2 look old a game I love. Anything better just post it but FM2 looks like a old xbox game next to GT5 !!

Backgrounds don'tmatter in racers, if you're playing the game right you'll never notice.

Backgrounds why ???ChiChiMonKilla

To see if most of the developers effort was put into the car models or the whole graphical experience. And from the looks of things, Polyphony did exactly what they've done in all previous GT's. Made beautiful car models and skimped on the environments. Sure, the car models look fantastic... but they always have.

That should be no excuse. What about when you slow down for a hairpin turn like the one in Monte Carlo where even the fastest of race cars have to drop to 25 kph? GT isn't about racing fast all the time, its about racing the track, and most tracks have slow sections as well as fast sections... and I know for a fact that in real life, things at a distance (at least within normal visible range) aren't as highly blurred as they are in these shots.

Nice or at least the cars are, like someone already said developers in any racing game pay more attention to making the cars look better and cut back on the environments around them. And yeah still nice graphics better than Forza 2 but is the Gamplay?

These graphics are phenominal. When I first played Gran Turismo 3 on the PS2, I thought game graphics couldn't get much better. I then played Project Gatham 3, and wasn't impressed by the leap over the last gen car graphics, but these screen shots have seriously impressed me.

I wish this game were coming for the 360.

They've done this in previous versions as well. It's a simple developer trick to get all the quality ino the car models and hope their blur effects can mask the hideous backgrounds. It's too bad blurring doesn't work well at all on bitmapped images.

The cars models = win, however GT game play hasnt change since the original. The backgrounds looks very blurry and someone could never convince me that the horrible ps3 controller will make this game feel or control better then forza 2... after GT4 im give up on the series.

I tried to find background shots but there were videos on gametrailers that showed it and it looked good also.

Was GT5 supposed to look bad?

Of course it's going to look awesome. It's Gran Tourismo.

Kind of looks similar to all the other shots of that kind of racers that end up not looking as good (motorstorm, pgr4, forza 2).

they looked good but not as good in motion.

cars look fantastic but if the environments are jarringly bland it totally negates the effort put into the cars, which is a terrible, but realpossibility. either way, i don't play sims like this. i play racers with an actual sense of speed like burnout. nothing is as fast as burnout with bumper cam.

PS. Using bumper cam adds about a third more sense of speed to any racing game. its really the only way to get a sense of speed in most racing games.

I think you need to open your eyes and stop bashing on a game simply because its not on the console you bought.

You are grasping for straws.

Hardly. What is the point in racing if the environment that you are racing through is static and lifeless?

Lovely cars. Bland environment.

Besides, if anyone wanted to grasp for straws, they would point out the detail in the rearview mirror.
