How can this get such a good score on the 360?
I've played it on the pc, unless they did MAJOR changes to some of the levels, i don't know how people on the 360 can honestly beat it without having their controller sensitivity through the roof.
Some of the levels are downright crazy, making you flick your mouse in various ways in a fraction of a second.
I really dont understand how this can score so well when its avaliable for free on the PC...I really dont...Unless the reviewer was not aware of this.cobrax75
well what if you dont have a pc?
its reviewed as the title its self, it cant be connected to anything, even at the price it is for the game its so worth it
This will probably be the one game I actually think deserves a download on Arcade, how much is it tho?
if its less than twenty Im sold

I honestly beat it, and I loved every second of it.
....
9.2 for PC freeware?
Sheesh.
IGN are gushing way too much over XBL content.
If the Bionic Commando review isnt a clear indication, who knows what is.

IGN has exclusivity deals with Microsoft with Xbox Live, so it's no surprsie if they absolutely love everything.

Well I wouldnt exactly call Portal best played on the pc. Definately a 360 game more so. Feels so much better on it.
But anyway, it's essentially portal + new levels.

What?
But on another note, I do find IGN's editorial staff feeding the hype a bit grating.

Honestly I kidn of agree with him. Games like Portal and the upcoming Mirrors edge just seem (for me) to work better on a gamepad.
However, any other game is far superior on PC. So don't start calling me a console fanboy.
I'm going to pass, most of what made Portal for me was the story, so without that, I don't see any real incentive to buy this.lantus
it doesn't have story, isn't it the same portal game? ....if its not portal same story and all I won't purchase it

Mirror's Edge I may agree, but Portal? Look at some of the speed runs on Youtube and tell me if anyone can do that with a pad. Portal require a lot of precision.

This is nothing more than extra puzzles, no continuation of the story or anything, in fact I don't think it even has GlaDOS' voice.

Exactly, and I personally felt a slight bit more control with the pad, but that's how I am with all platformers. And I was never good at speed runs on either version, so that's a non issue for me :P

See, that's what I'm getting at. Portal being more natural on a 360 for you speaks volumes about the job Valve has done translating the game to the consoles. But that doesn't mean the game is thereby a de facto console game.

Oh no, of course! I love Valve, they're my favorite developers, and of course than can port well the consoles, and of course the main platform they develop on is PC. But something about games that require specific jumping such as Portal and Mirrors Edge, I need a game pad. Maybe it has to do with how many buttons are on the keyboard. I've never been to hot about that.
Hell No.Well I wouldnt exactly call Portal best played on the pc. Definately a 360 game more so. Feels so much better on it.

It feels much better on a mouse and keyboard - fare more fluid and it perfectly suits the game design - you can tell it was designed with this control scheme in mind.
Which is pretty much the same with all Valve games...
Not that it isnt good on the 360 either... just feels much more clunky and unintuitive - which comes with a dual analouge sticks.
Other than that.
Portal Prelude ftw!
"Portal: Prelude, as its name states it, is an unofficial prequel to the game Portal. Its story revolves around the pre-GlaDOS epoch, even before she was plugged in. At this time, test subjects were monitored by real Aperture Science employees whose work was tedious, lengthy and repetitive. This is why they decided to build a great artificial intelligence that could both replace them in these difficult tasks, but also take responsibility for many other tasks within the complex and compete with Black Mesa's superiority. All employees of the Aperture Science complex are now eagerly awaiting GlaDOS. Maybe even a little too eagerly, as the upcoming events will tell..."
Plenty of great custom maps too.
Of course portal on PC - or the OB in general - is the definative one, and a 'PC game' at heart.
The 360 version is a good port, no doubt about that.
Honestly if it was not for MSs will to leech money off DLC, im sure Valve would have opted for Still Alive to be a free addon for the 360 - if it had the oppurtunity, or MS simply payed for the release of it on their console with a price tag (and following royalties).
[QUOTE="Noldorin2646"]I can't argue with that, so I guess we'll agree to disagree...
But Portal still is a PC game dammit!

I love how all my arguments on here always end like that. No fanboyish comments FTW! :D
How about this then: yo just suck at teh mouse and keyboard controlz. Go learn yo game skillz.
There, is that more in line with System Wars?
