All this talk about the Big 3 B's leaving MS for greener pastures ( bungie, bioware, bizzare) Got me thinking. I never seen the end of sega as a console maker. yet it happened. What if MS really is leaving the xbox brand? what if they actually plan to not make a successor to the 360? I wont lie, I would be heart broken. I would have to urge sony to re-design their controller. I would get to enjoy the games. As the makers would only have so many choices to make them on. But what get's me is MS is mum on all this rumor talk about them leaving the console buisness. Not one peep. I hope Im wrong. I hope it's just a major re-organization. Either way PGR will see PS3. Bungie will see PS3. Not to mention the creators of Mass Effect will now make games on PS3. I find it sad that MS allowed this to happen at the time they are viewed the best option in the industry. Either way I will always love the Xbox brand. I really hope MS saves it. If not, the gaming must still go on. oh well.

There was a thread earlier today about EA possibly buying the Xbox brand (it was based off of a Neo-Gaf post), which makes more sense than MS just killing it when they're on the verge of finally being profitable. And can you really say Bioware andBizzare left? Both were always independent developers.

Edited for dyslexia.

PGR won't see PS3 (Microsoft owns the rights). Halo will absolutely never see PS3(also owned by Micrsoft), and Microsoft has the choice on deciding what systems a new Bungie IP will be released on. And Mass Effect is still 360 exclusive. All in all it's not a huge terrible thing. I can see what you mean by the possiblity of them leaving, but I doubt it right now, we'll have to wait for more to happen.

unlike sega, Microsoft has the money and potential. They have put too much into the games business to back out, and also created a HUGE fan base, they have the best software on console but bad hardware, even if they BIG Bs leave there will be new ones coming and there are other great games that are still 1st and 2nd party. Also the companies leaving don't mean that they will suddenly start working on ps3. Xbox 360 is too good not to have a successor.

I remeber when PS3 was losing all their exclusives before they came out. I also remember everyone screaming bloody murder when GTA 4 went multiplat. It will pass over, Microsoft got what they wanted from those devs, they are trying to not pull a Nintendo and drag a series on for 20 years, something so stale it makes Mummies in ancient Egypt seem tasty.

well the hardware problem will go away if they make another console as they have partered with Samsung for their new hardware products. Also I know what MS owns as far as IP's go. But if you slap some new diggs and a new name on it. Walah HALO PS3. But the part that sucs the most is the 360 really is a great console.

bungie bioware bizzare. as far as im concerned. ms is sitting pretty. we have a whole new generation of kids brought up on xbox's an ARMY of new people and ideas., and a whole new eastern block of cheap labor devs coming. i would be suprised if anyone of those companies comes out with a New title hit. the indstury is moving so fast, what devs know now kids are doing at home on there own. this console cant even handle, next gen kids. at the end microsoft will put ps3 to sleep. that will leave a void for another american console company or eastern block console maybe. but, japans done, have you ever heard of china. i wish i was a baby, i could only imagne what going to be like in the future for gaming.

If they do leave the industry I will go back to exclusively playing PC games. Not really a terrible prospect because the majority of games I play/want on Xbox have PC roots (Gears, Halo 3, Mass Effect ect.) but in between playing these I have played more console specific games and enjoyed them (DOA 4, Kameo, Dead Rising ect.) I wouldn't buy a console just to play games like this but I would miss them a bit. I wonder if developers who had PC roots such as Bioware, Epic and Bungie will go back to having the PC as their lead platform for all of their games or will we see time exclusives on another console with some of their games?

as a gamer I cant help but love consoles. I love the DC until they discontiued it. Then I went to the PS2. I waited for a few months then decided it was good enough, even if the graphics never matched SC2 for the DC. then as a PS2 fan I seen a screen from the origional xbox of the rock on a top rope. Hand held high and looking crazy. I though, wow. Now I want that. Ive been xbox since. But if it happened I would go to PS3 for now. I believe IBM or APPLE will try next. And I would love an APPLE CONSOLE. They have done great things recently.

Are you serious??? do you really think that microsoft doesnt want a franchise that can last for 20 years and still sell well and most of the time deliver aaa games??? in 20 years there isnt a true mario, zelda or metroid game that has score less than aa...

PS3 won't ever see Halo or PGR names that Microsoft owns, but that doesn't mean a whole bunch when the team that makes the games isn't the same team anymore. It's the equivalent of JK Rowling moving to a different book company. Sure Harry Potter might be around, but it's not going to be the same. It is crazy. Especially Bungie, my gut reaction was BS when I first read the headline. The fact is MS needs to make a profit. They are losing billions of dollars and at some point shareholders expect a return. Personally I think MS flubbed with X360 they rushed a defective console to market a year early and took a gamble. Not something I respect them for at all. Yes it gave them the early lead, but at the expense of customer and brand loyalty and image.

if you look at the number of ps1 and 2 consoles sold compared to any other console in history, you will notice that Playstation is the grand champ of gaming consoles. Sony is very sneaky, sneaky i tell you what. they always have something up their sleeves. as far as whos gonna win....... their will be no corperatewinner of the console wars, the only winners are the consumers because big companies compete for our money. thus giving us more for less.;)

Probably is doomed really. 360 was really MS's best shot by far at taking the gaming market over..... year lead, tons of good games. But at this point I'd be really surprised if it exceeded 30 million sales total ever. Prettymuch guarunteed to lose to PS3 even with everything going bad for it.

Why would bungie make games for ps3 after they've been making xbox games for so long? They said it themselves that they're gonna' still be focusing on microsoft platforms. The split was just to allow them to "expand creatively"and be able to make more games than halo. I don't think microsoft is leaving the xbox brand, at least I hope not.

Bungie will still make games for 360 and still make exclusives. I think almost anyone can see that bungie is basically what insomniac is to Sony. an independant dev that just works for 1 company.

Mass Effect 1 is atleast still 360 exclusive. Im pretty sure if ME is successful MS will put up money for exclusive rights to the trilogy as well.

Bizarre was always an independant dev that just made Project GOthem for Microsoft an IP Microsoft owns. More than likely PGR 5 will be made by a new dev or Microsoft can work out something, worst comes to worst MS still owns turn 10 which makees Forza.

So counting Bungie, MS still has Lionhead studios, ensemble studios, Rare, Turn 10, and Mistwalker so far works exclusively for 360 right now on consoles.

360 will be fine next year. MS published games include Too Human, Alan Wake, Huxley, Halo Wars, Fable 2, Banjo 3, Lost Odyssey, Ninja Gaiden 2 and probably a few more. I say the 360 is just fine.

anything could happen, i mean MS has dumped $6 billion in the red to support the Xbox brand for merely 2 generation, thats a tremendous amount of loss, if they can't make a profit off this gen, alot of stock holders will probably force MS to abandon Xbox brand. even as rich a company as MS is, there must be some kind of limit of financial hit they can take.

[QUOTE="akuma303x"]All this talk about the Big 3 B's leaving MS for greener pastures ( bungie, bioware, bizzare) Got me thinking. I never seen the end of sega as a console maker. yet it happened. I wouldn't buy a console just to play games like this but I would miss them a bit. I wonder if developers who had PC roots such as Bioware, Epic and Bungie will go back to having the PC as their lead platform for all of their games or will we see time exclusives on another console with some of their games?Jenova_Flare

I doubt it, the console business is too profitable.

For Microsoft? lol, they haven't made a dime yet. Maybe it's smart enough for them to cut ties. I'm not for Sony monoplizing, but M$ just didn't have what it took to grasp a big market to make good profit. Plain and simple.

Lol "MS just didn't have what it took to grasp a big market to make good profit".

They make alot more profit than Sony buddy.

This is the first quarter that they will make a profit why would they would stop now?

It is inevitable that MS will eventually be the biggest player in this market. Because it is a software business andMS are the biggest software company in the world.

They are even making there own chips for the next xbox.

It's not the Xbox brand that's the problem, it's the MicroSoft brand. Maybe over in the states most people don't have a problem with the company but I know over here in Europe a lot of people just hate them. (It's common knoledge they took agressive business tactics to a whole new level to get to where they are). We all use windows because we have to, no choice. But a lot of people will avoid having an Xbox as well if they can. This is why, despite it having the games this generation and being relatively cheap it STILL isn't selling IMO.

If not, the gaming must still go on. oh well.akuma303x

Bungie will still be making exclusives for the Xbox. In fact this is a good thing because MS will have more Bungie exclusive IP's besides Halo. BioWare games will still be on the 360 as will Bizzare. BioWare was always multiplat and Bizzare made one tired racing franchise that MS still has the rights to. Stop preaching doom and gloom when there is none. Anyway the only one MS had any controll over at all was Bungie and things havent really changed with them.

the xbox brand won`t die that easy, the Halo name is still owned by Microsoft and so is the Mass Affect name, I think.

No Mass Effect is owned by Bioware. It is published by MS.

yea but there is some deal they had when they split that mass effect cant go multiplat but as for the sequals... that is a dif story

But Mass Effect is narrative. You probably need to have played the first to understand the other two, and since the other two are still planned for the current generation, and since jumping mid-generation is generally considered a bad move...

Who knows? Pehaps MS will turn over PGR to Turn 10 (the Forza developers).

And usually it is software sales where the money is. You must be able to loose allot if you want to success.

Did you meant succeed? Anyways, How much does M$ have to lose to be successful? Note: Nintendo, Sony, and Sega didn't have to lose nearly $6 billion dollars to make profit.

M$ is playing the same game they do with any area they try to barge into, they throw mad amounts of cash at it, games Ipods software...windows vista...lol.

M$ always tries to muscle out the competition with insane loses and when they get rid of the competition they start to profit, but that wont work with video games, and is biting them in the ass with all there looes.

You have to remember the original Xboxpitched itself against the PS2 the most sucsessfull console in history. It was there first console and arrived at market late. Everybody knows the costs these days are huge compared to a while back when Sony first started.

I can see what you mean by the possiblity of them leaving, but I doubt it right now, we'll have to wait for more to happen.O_Lineman17
Yeah I feel the same but the whole EA might pay for the Xbox brand isnt that crazy. I dont think it will happen though.

okay I am tired of people saying that bioware left MS. BIOWARE WAS NOT, I repeat NOT a part of Microsoft and never was. With that said though it should be obvious that bioware will now make games for every single platform known to man. We Will see masseffect on the ps3-ps1 and everyother console inbetween, SNES, N64 etc
