to those that played this game... is it better than the last star ocean on ps2?Meowmixxvi
I have the 360 version. I only made it about 2/3 of the way through. I like JRPGs in general, so that isn't a problem.
I would be very careful before slapping down any moola for this game (regardless of version).
It is almost two separate game experiences combined into one game.
The basic combat and much of the skills, attributes, abilities of the characters, the party, the core jrpg mechanics are very good, maybe even excellent. Sure there is quite a bit of necessary level grinding etc but overall these parts are very satisfying.
On the other hand, the story, the voice acting, the dialogue, the script, the character interactions, the characeters themselves, the animations....all are utter garbage. And I am used to JRPGs. I don't have really high expectations. I expect it to be fairly simple, fairly stock characters and the like. But thus is purile, nasty atrocious stuff...some of the worst ever in a video game. Seriously :) And don't think that new voice acting will change anything. The problems are way deeper than that. It is the actual script...the dialogue is so banal it sets a new low, even for JRPGs. Anyone who has played it will understand when I say: If I have to hear "m'kay" one more time, someone is gonna die. I'll shoot myself, my dog, someone, anyone. I can't tolerate that anymore.
So, be careful. If you are good with the combat, attributes, rpg mechanics...if that is what you like...then you are good to go.
But, if you need some story, some caring about the characters at all, some interest in the dialogue and interactions then save your money.
I'm in the latter category, so despite the pluses I just couldn't stomach it anymore.
You were warned :)
