I would much rather a 2 year cycle with a major update (rosters, features, etc) every other year. Maybe the update could have a $10-15 charge to it, but it would need to be substantial in order for people to want to pay that price.
But, if it is just a roster update, it should be 100% free.
You can spin it any way you want to but playing a football game is not going to change much. How do you make a football or basketball game feel new without changing the actual sports rules?channtheman1
Wait a few years..update graphics..let the features of 2-3 years combine to add to a more finished product..make the controls much more streamlined..give it competitive pro gaming features like replays and such...there is a lot that can be done

Aim your mouse/Wii remote at a reciever to throw to him, and running should be just like your typical FPS.
Hopefully never. Can't and won't speak for Madden, but I love how people assume that the only changes in annual sports titles is the year on the box. Really easy to see who has no idea what they're talking about from the BS they regurgitate.

By adding emotions that enhance or distract Your players, by giving the players 'weight' as they move, by changing the stupid controls, adding some funny modes, upgrading Your stadium to something futuristic, play it with very old or futuristic rules, be able to play the referee or so, playing one character in a story mode through which You get missions like taking someone out of the game or creating an oppertunity for the enemy team since they payed You. There are enough ways i'm sure.

No sports game emulates the sports experiences perfectly - there is ALWAYS something to improve and will ALWAYS be. Try playing a couple of years old sports game and compare it with the newly released one; the difference is HUGE, and not only in visuals. The core gameplay has become much deeper, franchise/season modes are much more expansive, etc. Well, at least in basketball games.
When they stop selling yes..... Tony Hawk started to nose dive and sales and Activision wanted to dev to start over and take some time this time by. So when Madden stops selling(not going to happen) than yes EA will say hey you know what lets take 2011(example) off and comeback in 2012 or 2013jg4xchamplol normally You don't type that way. Your mind is all scattered :P
It's not likely. Although there is a minority that purchases these games annually, most people skip a year or two between updates. And other than the most loyal fans, the skippers aren't on a consistent schudle. this results in a constant stream of money as the average gamers stagger out their purchases between the different yearly tweaks. This turns what are essentially yearly patches into Evergreen games.hellhundI would wager that there is a good chunk of fans that purchase the game annually. I play pretty much every genre of game, and yes even sports games. I don't get the contempt a large portion of system wars has for the sports genre. Typically the only ones who say the game is the same except for roster updates are the ones who don't play the games. How is buying a football or baseball game once a year somehow worse than buying a game from any other genre annually any different?

I can't speak for all of the sports games, since I only play Madden and NCAA football, but they usually have minor tweaks from year to year. So I only purchase them about every 3 years, so there's large and noticeable change. Although, for a couple years now, all of the little extras have already been in the game. The additions are largely visual tweaks and eye candy. The greatest single addition to console football since Create-A-Player is being able to draw routes with a Wiimote, but it came at the cost of polish.
