I noticed a lot of hate for the Fable series here and I completely understand, BUT I am interested in your opinion. Name top 5 reasons why you dont like the fable series as a whole, or an individual game like Fable 3. Peter Molyneux is a genius and without him the industry would not be how it is, (no dark souls) so what 5 thngs do you dislike about the fable series?

before i go on... i really want you to flesh out this subtle nudge that shows that this is a thinly disguised dark souls hate thread. what did you mean by this, and what arguments do you bring to back this up: [QUOTE="Aquaunitpatrol"] Peter Molyneux is a genius and without him the industry would not be how it is, (no dark souls)

While most do not realize this (like you) the rpg market while everyone knows is not exactly big Jrpg wise, and despite people here hate fable series in general, you have to realize this. Demon Souls was a quiet game, but eventually it srea through word of mouth. Now for 360 gamers, Dark Souls would not have been on the system had From Software had not seen the market for rpgs on the 360 and Fable greatly helped with that. People actually do buy the games, and as considered a microsoft MAIN franchise along with Gears, Forza, Halo, Alan, etc. It helped keep putting rpgs on the 360 high even though rpgs other then say elder scrolls aren''t getting numbers like fps games do. Thus, with a market they know that's there, Dark Souls gained a 360 release, and while it as of this point did not sell as much as the 360 version, it sold more then originally thought because the market was there. Fable series helped push Wrpgs and other rpgs in general on the system and made it so that there would always be an audience. Because of this there may be yet another souls sequel thanks to the obvious impressive sales of the 360 version combined with the PS3 version.

so what you're saying is that fable (which was not the first nor the best WRPG, not even of its styIe, even when it was released), and fable alone, allowed the RPG market to go on instead of withering and dying, and that dark souls, despite having the spiritual predecessor being a popular PS3 game, wouldn't have existed had not the 360 proven to be a profitable enough system? that's all i needed to know.

Lack of reading skills again. Dang are you bad at this how did you last so long in Sw? I said Fable is ONE OF (One) the reasons dor making the rpg market valuable. It diesn't matter is it's the best or not, regardless of your ignorance, it helped open a larger path. Another reading fail,I said that a sequel to DARK SOULS would now be possible looking at the above expected sales success of DARK SOULS. I mean why try, you fail everytime.

you said no fable, no dark souls. then you say "wait, other games also did it". you called molyneux a genius but later you disregard the quality of his games. i mean are you even trying?

I really enjoyed 1 and 2 in the beginnings, but as I played on I grew to hate them. It's usually the other way around for most games in my experience. I didn't even bother to try the 3rd one. The thing that I find really peculiar is that I don't really know why I hate them. This is the only series I've had this experience with. I definitely got bored but I find many games boring and I don't hate them.

ok wow this is a lot of aguments about nothing dealing with the OP. To stay on topic I honestly liked fable 2 and 3 but maybe thats because im not a huge FF style rpg player. Don't get me wrong I still love breaking out Dragon Quest 8 but im just not THAT into rpgs that have the turn based battle scenes. I think I liked the environment, the people, and the story in both. Notice how the jobs seem awful similar to what is in Skyrim now? The only thing I was dissapointed in was when I thought Fable 4 was going to be that kinect rail fighter we saw at E3. Come to find out, much to my pleasure, it isn't Fable 4 and the real fable 4 should be coming out either next year or the year after. On a side note I bet Peter Molyneux is already preparing his "I admit fable 3 sucked but THIS one is going to be epic" speech.

Ive never had a problem with the FAble series. Only played the first 2 and while the second one was pretty average the first one is a classic. Such an amazing game.

I'v played both Fable 1 and 2 and didn't like either of them here's why:

The combat was repetitive and boring

The story was meh; character even moreso.

The first game was much too short and linear for an rpg

The good/bad system was a joke; Join the bandits and plunder the village or help defend the village; gee I wonder which is the' bad option'...I like more ambiguity in my choices andother games have done this system better.

Well, I played just the first one and I didn't like how limited it seemed and how unconnected the story and happenings were. I also found the fighting system a little lackluster and it overall didn't seem as the "epic action RPG" it was hyped to be.

Molyneux made Dark Souls? I did not know :P

Yeah, I was also dissappoint by the good/bad system. It just seemed nowhere near as important or epic as it was hyped to be.

3 I got bored of so I don't talk about it.

1. It went in a completely different direction to what it was originally. Taking out armor and pretty much every weapon type does not make the game more enjoyable. 2. Short and boring stories, they had interesting (in my opinion) back stories they could have explored in the games but decided against it and told terrible stories instead. 3. Gameplay has gotten worse, takes no skill (normally I wouldn't complain about this) and it consists of pressing the same button over and over again. In the second guns were over powered and after you levelled up there was no need to use anything else but them. 4. The worlds have gotten more and more uninteresting with each new game. 5. The next one will be a kinect game.

Here we go. Boring world. Boring story. Boring characters. Clunky combat. Crappy graphics. Shallow questlines. Large focus on mini-games. Short main quest. Short side quests. Mediocre dialogue. Hmm.. I know there's more here.

I don't hate fable, but to be fair I only played Fable 1 and 2 and I found the first one so dull that I didn't even play a full hour before quitting. I liked Fable 2 but I had some issues with it. I thought the combat was a bit shallow(still better than most western rpgs though :/ ), the graphics weren't very good, the co-op was poorly handeled and it would have been nice if what your character wore effected more than just their attractiveness.

I love the fable series, yes I said series which includes 3. I agree with Gs it isn't as good as the first two, but that doesn't make it terrible. I never ask a game for more than entertainment. It does that for me.

I loved the first. It was visually stunning at the time, had an interesting(little clichéd) story, good characters and some mechanics that were ahead of it's time.

I liked the combat, the leveling up system, the enemy types, the whole good/evil thing and the morphing that came with that. And the game was undeniabley charming and funny, sometimes hilarious. It just had a unique wit to it.

Basically, I found very little wrong with the game at the time, it was brilliant. I stupidly never got around to playing the Lost Chapters though.

Bought Fable 2, had high hopes but they made the game even more simple, It was still good however and there were some nice additions, like the dog companion etc. But I was let down by the game hugely.

I'm not even going to bother with 3, I'd probably get ill just playing it.

I don't hate the Fable games, it just promises the world, so I end up expecting the world :P. Of course I learned from the first game that not everything goes according to plan, so I just look at it as a light-hearted adventure game where you build your own hero :D.

I too didnt care for the first one but i think theyve got better as theyve gone one. As in fable 3 is my favorite.... heres why... fable 1+2 were based on what you can do and how you can interact with the game world beneath was a thinly spun story that after a little while you could care less about and instead find more value farting in childrens faces... fable 3 ushered in the first game i. The series that made you care about your actions and the story tn fold. Thus truly creating the feeling of being a hero, something molenuxe wanted to begin with.

[QUOTE="Aquaunitpatrol"]Lack of reading skillz again. Let me once again do this slowly for you as you can understand Bruno. FABLE IS A VID3O GAME SERIES. Ok, you got that right great. Its an RPG. Ok? Am I going to fast for you? It HELPED OPEN THE GAP FOR RPGS ON THE XBOX. SOMETHING THAT WAS STARTING TO FAIL AFTER THE NOT VERY GOOD SALES OF RPGS GAMES RELEASED FOR IT. Ok? Even THOUGH IT''s NOT CONSIDERED A VERY GOOD GAME ON SW, IN REAL LIFE. Real life now. You get it? THE FABlE SERIES HELPED MAKE A SIZABLE MARKET ON THE XBOX 360 FOR ALL RPGS GAMERS IN GENERAL. Ok? THUS, Helping FROM SOFTWARE ALONG WITH OTHER GAMES, SEE THE SIZABLE RPG MARKET ON XBOX. So then. BECAUSE OF THIS AND THE ABOVE EXPECTED SALES OF 360 VERSION OF DARK SOULS. Too fast? You should have it by now. THERE WILL PROBABLY BE a 3rd GAM3. BECASUE FABLE HELPED EXPAND THE RPG MARKET AND PETER MOLYNEUX IS FABLE. There was that hard?

for the lack of a better thing to do at the moment, i'll bite once again. fable is just another RPG series on the xbox. it did no more to "open the gap" (i think you mean closing it, as opening a gap would mean making RPGs more distant from the crowd, but eh, poor r3ading skillz, right?) than bioware. in fact, bioware, as much as i dislike them, did much more than the fable series in that regard, given the amount of games that got both more praise and more crowd acceptance. the fable series did nothing special, deal with it. the first game was good, second eh, third bleh. that's it. it didn't do anything with your hypothetical "gap", at least not on a significant level, as other RPG series have been around (and being popular) both before and after it. now regarding your dark souls theory. let's say it's true. if fable was never around, from software would have never seen the RPG market on the 360 (obviously they don't know about bioware, square enix, namco and mistwalker, and their respective popular X360 games, but i digress). this would mean dark souls would have never happened. ON THE 360. you see, demon's souls, a PS3 exclusive, is the game that gave dark souls the green light. assuming your ridiculous hypothesis is correct (which it isn't), this would only mean dark souls would not be on the 360. demon's souls was a PS3 exclusive and it sold well, so it's been "proven" that the PS3 market is ready to accept dark souls. and if dark souls sales go on as they are, a third game would be a viable option regardless of a 360 version existing or not. and before you say demon's souls exists because fable did whatever it did to your imaginary gap, keep in mind that fable is an xbox-exclusive series (1 and 3 have PC versions as well, but 3 even uses the god forsaken GFWL, so it counts). but i'm sure you'll ignore all of this, say i have poor reading skills, post a lot of stuff in all caps, use expressions wrong, and finally say i'm wrong and i lose and i'm stupid. please do so.

The first two Fable games were really good, especially Fable TLC. I invested so many extra hours into that game it's crazy. Excellent sidequest and the feel of a living world made it amazing. Fable II was really good in its own place to. I though the addition of guns was neat and the way the world was laid out was pretty neat. Not as good as the first but fun.

Now Fable III was a disappointment. The structure of the world was killed, the rpg elements were really stripped out of it and it just wasn't as much fun. Plus I hate the need for all the money at the end.

Fable: The Lost Chapters on the PC was a good game, i really liked it. Fable 2, not as much, almost mediocre, but i didn't have to force my self trough it, i guess i enjoyed it.

Fable 3 was trash, i couldn't finish it, here's Angry Joe to fill in since i'm to lazy to continue.

Fable 1 tlc was a good "start" for the fable series. It showed promise even if it did not even include 30% of the things he hyped and promised. But overall it was ok. Abit short but ok. It had balance issues, abit to linear and it lacked in the "umh" that they promised at the start (how you level your character). So what i wished for in Fable 2 was Fable 1 improved super awesome edition (or something like that) Instead it took Fable 1 and removed stuff, changed stuff and well did some minor improvements. Then we have the last Fable... THe one that did never happen. The one where EVERY dev fell and hit their head. Its not a sane design choice in that entire game. Everything from a 3d ui (sanctuary) to the map not working, horrible "touch" system, even worse balance on the combat, horrible story line, choices that make no sense blablabla. If theya re going to make a Fable 4(NO the one they are making now dont count), then they should improve upon fable 1, make it abit less linear, better story, rebalance the combat system, add more content (30-40 hours in my gameplay time) and revisit the old ideas for fable on how your character grows. But will this happen? No because they have shown that they are happy to make polished s*** and then to sell it. And the consumers have shown that they happily eat it.

i like it.

it's just a shallow little action rpg with a sense of humor.

where is the problem?
