Yeah AMD for some reason changed the name of their cards. The new 6870 is actually replacing the 5750 I believe at $250. The highend chips won't come out till late next month.

Do want! But I just spent the last bit of my college money on a HD5850, new PSU and a new case :). Still rocking my 2 yearold Q8200 which I'm hoping to replace soon for an i7 range. The HD5850 noms everything I throw at it though, and runs Crysis at a solid 30fps very high 1080p so I'm good for the next few years. :D

Ah good, this will make the price drop of the 5770 and I'll be able to Crossfire.

yeah the card won't be as powerful as 5870, but the performance should be in line with a 5850 which goes for about $290

Which 5850 did you get?

I had the Asus but the fan makes a very irritating noise...I guess it's natural on the card, not sure.

AMD is brand name is more known then ATI, they did this extensive study on whether they should do this or not. PLUS! You know those stickers that come on laptops, a sticker of the CPU maker, Sticker of GPU maker, and Sticker of OS... well now even on Intel CPU, the AMD sticker will be there. They wanted to pick a brand name to stick with with all products and strengthen it.

The 5970 will probably end up costing about $500 or a little less. From what I've read the chip die size is as big as the one found on a GTX 480 and its just as power hungry as well. It should end up being 30% faster as well.

UPDATE: Heres an even better link. XFX version leaked. http://www.techpowerup.com/132790/XFX-Radeon-HD-6870-Smiles-for-the-Camera.html

Its meant to be the successor to the 5700 series cards. No point in buying on if you already own a 5800 series card. ATI has a nice numbering system and now theyre going to screw it up? I dont get it. They should keep it so x5xx is low end, x7xx mid end, x8xx gaming, and x9xx enthusiast.

I'm assuming 10~15% increase in performance overall. I'll stick to my 480 for the time being. The problem with GPU market is that it makes you excited to get the latest stuff as you read and hear more about them.
