What are some games that made your jaw drop when you first played them?

Mine would have to be playing Gran Turismo 3 when tht first came out. The game looked great when that came out. Also playing Tomb Raider when I first got my PS1 in 1997. I remember thinking that Tomb Raider looked amazing.

*EDIT* I cannot forget Super Mario World back in 1993. I was only 3, but that was the first game I ever played.

Super Mario 64, SSX (when the PS2 first launched), Half-Life 2, Deus Ex, System Shock 2, Crysis/Crysis Warhead, S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl, and GTA IV.

Hmmm dude, I agree but I also remember crying at the sheer awesome that was Turok 2 Seeds of Evil.

Also, Doom 3 and Half-Life 2.

World in Conflict, Crysis/Warhead, Stalker Clear Sky, Commander Keen, Final Fantasy VII, Half Life 1 and 2, etc.

there have been quite a few... most recently though, burnout paradise: ultimate box.

during a race, took a ramp off the highway on to the road below only to land on top of an opponents car, thus performing a vertical takedown.. it was epic heh

that game looks very good on the pc.

This Gen: Uncharted!, Mass Effect, Valkyrie Chronicles.

Previous gens: KOTOR, Rogue Galaxy, System Shock.

GTA III: It was like the first two but in 3-D.

Farcry / Crysis: I couldn't believe what my eyes were seeing, and the levels were so huge.

Rainbow Six: It was so realistic.

Doom: I couldn't believe my SNES was capable of such awesomeness.

Chrono Trigger: Everything about this game was so perfect, for me the best console RPG ever.

Fallout. It was quite shocking when I realised I can do anything.

Stalker, because the atmosphere is incredible. That game is pure genius.

Crysis. I played it all low, on a system below minimum requirements, and I was amazed how much freedom it offers.

3D space RTS were just ownage. If you liked Descent: Freespace then you will LOVE Homeworld. It's so much better.
