Muliplat allowed, what were the best ps1 games? Feel free to place Resident Evil 2 at the top.
This topic is locked from further discussion.
In no order:
1) Symphony of the Night
2) Ape Escape
3) Dino Crisis
I think that's all I've played from PS1.
Those were the favorites I played, outside of sports titles.
I remember that I did this thing back in the Retro Gaming board, and here's my pick
1. Kaettekita Cyborg Kuro-Chan
2. Irritating Stick
3. Dino Crisis
4. Bishi Bashi Special
5. Pepsiman
6. Point Blank
7. Rising Zan: The Samurai Gunman
8. Project: Horned Owl
9. In the Hunt
I guess these are the games that made the PS1 looked good for me as a single 1mb memory card can serve it right
In no order.
This is impossible, I can think of at least 50 superb JRPGs for the console, and that's just one genre...
Need for Speed Hot Pursuit
Road Rash
Metal Gear Solid
Tekken 3
Resident Evil
Twisted metal 2
Einhander
R Type delta
Front Mission 3
Mega Man X4
@batosaims: hehe, I was just about to say how I was surprised nobody mentioned Parappa the Rapper, then I saw your post..... that game was awesome with a group of people(and a few beers)!
Never played
-Megaman X4 - but I love me some Megaman X, so I imagine this would rank high for me when I get around to it.
-Xenogears - video game sold on video game story? no thanks
-Street Fighter Alpha games - I was under the impression that the Street Fighter spinoff type games suck : /
-Alundra - Never played, looks cool though
-Dino Crisis - Only Shinji Mikami game I haven't played, and I've played that piece of crap P.N. 03

It was a pretty unique game, I remember playing at Target on the PS1 Kiosk, unfortunetly I didn't get my PSX until like...2000...I did the vast majority of my gaming that gen on the N64
@gameofthering: Holy shit, you know Unholy War? I loved that game. The concept was so cool and it was beyond fun to play against friends. That kamikaze guy in an aircraft was such a psycho. I also remember some Rhino, an overland piranha which could spawn offspring, some mechanical guy who shot sawblades and some scarecrow-like lizard magician.
Crystal Dynamics were top devs with diverse portfolio back then.
Now they're only top devs.
I hate they are forced to make only TR games.
On that note I'll definitely mention MediEvil and Soul Reaver. I'd also put Alien Resurrection up there.
Mm, I'm lazy so I'll just give you my top 1.
Symphony of the Night. I didn't think so back then, but all these years later it's become one of my most replayed games ever. Even now I still have the urge to play it again.
Also played Final Fantasy Tactics last year for the very first time. Great game, definitely would rank high on my list.
@jg4xchamp: I've played both Dino Crisis 1 & 2. The sequel was like RE4 for its time albeit with still prerendered backgrounds, although the original actually didn't use that.
Btw, SH1 was to me the superior game. That first major scene in the alley in the dark and then the segue to the bar...
Anyway, I also felt Alone in the Dark New Nightmare was a good and underrated game.
I've also played Ape Escape and it was one of the first games which forced you to use Dual Shock IIRC.
I've literally played hundreds of games on PS1. There are so many to remember. Tenchu for example, although I played the first one at friend's but I had the second one and completed it.
Shadow Man was also a very good title from Acclaim. I miss that studio somewhat.
Oh and how can we forget Colony Wars, G-Police, Wipeout and Formula 1 '97? And Tekken 3. And Front Mission? And some decent 2nd tier games like Ace Combat. I've got so many fond memories - today's Sony couldn't have been any more different.
Fvck, I forgot Gex! There was also this cool game with this Tai Chi / Kung Fu tiger. What was its name?
I also enjoyed Wild9 a lot, a sadistic spiritual successor to Earthworm Jim.
There was also Akuji the Heartless by Crystal Dynamics.
And amazing car combat game - Vigilante 8. I put many hours into its sequel. Lord Clyde with his limo was my fav.
Have you ever played Soul Reaver?
@Salt_The_Fries: Yeah, I would play the multi-player (board game mode) for hours and hours with friends. Shame, but not many people seem to talk about the game.
@uninspiredcup: No Order and only exclusives/time exclusives
1) Symphony of the night
2) Crash Bandicoot
3) Tekken 3
4) Metal Gear Solid
5) Resident Evil 2
6) Final Fantasy 7
7) Final Fantasy 9
8) Chrono cross
9) Gran Turismo
10) Vagrant Story
( and there are plenty more to make it to top 10 depends your taste actually )
Haven't played Ape Escape, hear good things. Also I loved a bunch of shoot em ups on that thing. G-Darius, Blast Radius, Raystorm, DodonPachi to name a few.
A list without Syphon Filter 2, Driver, Twisted Metal 2, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2 and Castlevania: Symphony of the Night is incomplete.
Resident evil 2.
MGS.
FF VII
Xenogears
Klonoa door to phantomille
Symphony of the Night
Megaman legends
Megaman legends 2
Legacy of Kain Soul Reaver
Suikoden II
So many games I'm forgetting and likely many more I haven't even played, the PS1 library was pretty damn good.
The old from software games like kingsquest and Tenchu were also fantastic.
Some PS games that I played a lot included:
Bust A Move 4
Crash Team Racing
Frogger
Gran Turismo
Hot Shots Golf 2
Jade Cocoon
Parasite Eve
Spyro the Dragon
Tetris
Twisted Metal 4
In no order
1-) Parasite Eve
2-) Metal Gear Solid
3-) Final Fantasy IX
4-) Silent Hill
5-) Resident Evil
6-) Final Fantasy 7
7-) Symphony of the Night (Will probably go higher but I haven't finished it yet)
8-) Resident Evil 2
hmm I know I've played more for the thing but these are all the ones that stand out right now
1. Final Fantasy VII
2. Resident Evil
3. Resident Evil 2
4. Resident Evil 3
5. Xenogears
6. Metal Gear
7. Symphony of the Night
8. Crash Bandicoot
9. Chrono Cross
10. Fear Effect
Ape Escape
Tomba
Bloody Roar 2
Street fighter Alpha 3
Rival Schools
Rollcage
Crash team Racing
Crash bandicoot 2
Resident Evil 2
Tenchu Stealth Assassin
That's my Final Offer till I find other games I want to replace in this list.
@jg4xchamp:
Have you ever played Soul Reaver?
No, because a lot of the "positive" comments for those games revolves around the video game story, and I'm pretty transparent at how much I value a video game story.
But it's on my steam library so one day I'll get around to it, maybe.
Really subjective list here since I haven't played many classic PS1 games. I owned the superior console, N64, instead :^)
Also I played some of the games on this list on different platforms (MGS1 on PC, RE2 on N64, FF games on PC, etc.) but it's the same shit
1. Symphony of the Night
2. Metal Gear Solid
3. Mega Man X4
4. Final Fantasy VIII (huge personal bias here because this FF game has my favorite music in the whole series)
5. Resident Evil 2
6. Mega Man X5
7. Final Fantasy VII
8. Mega Man X6
9. Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2
10. I don't know
