Really,I think that there are many games that define console gaming like Halo,GoW,GeoW,Final Fantasy,MGS,Mario,Zelda etc.,all of those games helped console gaming become what it is now,so what games define PC gaming?
Thanks.

Starcraft, Counterstrike, Battlefield (the good ones), Total war, Half Life (only good on PC, and the mods), Crysis, mostly RTS and shooters.
I'm an old school pc* gamer starting from the 80's. Let's see. I'll just rattle of those that I like.
1. Simulators of every sort such as flight sims, tank sims, sub sims, racing sims, etc. Some examples are:
Flight Simulator X
X-Plane 9
Pacific Fighters
Steel beasts
Silent Hunter series
PT Boats: Knights of the Sea
2. Adventure games such as Day of the Tentacle, The Longest Journey, The Monkey Island series, etc.
3. Strategy games such as Kampgruffe, Red Lightning, Panzer General, Steel Panthers
4. RTS games
5. Tactical/Warfare/FPS games
6. RPGs such as the Elder Scrolls series
7. Classic games such as card and arcade games
Back then, simulations used to be the hardcore because most simulators required reading sometimes half inch-thick manuals just to play the game. All these FPS and RPG stuff you see nowadays used to be the kid's stuff. Obviously, things have mellowed out since. But, there's still many in the flight simulator community who take offense at their hobby being called a game. :D
*Actually, I was more of an Amiga gamer that got into pc gaming later on. Of course, I had my consoles in addition to the computers.
Rollercoaster tycoon 1,Transport tycoon,Half Life,UT99
We need some oldies :P and those were like my bible of game playing when i was like 10 xd
Many of the games imo that there are.. People have not heard of in these forums.. Thats the amazing thing about the platform, is there are so many niche games out there.. I would take those any day over blockbusters.sSubZerOo
Yeah people don't understand that THE VAST MAJORITY of PC games DO NOT get reviewed here at GS. The PC is simply a much broader system than the consoles.
On the PC, you may have Flight Sim enthusiasts like me who eat up Flight Sim games and expensive Flight Sim hardware, but I'll tell you most of the guys I fly with have never even heard of Team Fortress or Steam simply because they don't run with those circles. I still play MUDs from time-to-time and there are people on there who play nothing BUT MUDs and MOOs.
World of warcraft, just a massive MMO blizzard probably make as much money as nintendo do on just 1 game, and starcraft has to be up there as it's an official sport in koreaTotalgym9000
warcraft is on mac

Macs are also personal computers.
Civilization, Total War, Anno, Sims, World of Warcraft, EVE, Bejeweled, Mystery Case Files, Myst, Monkey Island 2, Close Combat, Falcon, Silent Hunter, Flight Simulator, Counterstrike, Half-life, OPF/ARMA
For me the quintessential pc game is the original half-life. Goldeneye was fun and all, but when half-life busted around the corner it just blew me away. I can't count how many hours I dumped into team fortress classic on my dialup with 5-10k lag on the huge matches, leading sniper shots like I would a rocket launcher. Good times.
Hm.
Half-Life 2 (and associated mods), Fallout, EVE Online, STALKER, Silent Hunter, WoW, and King's Quest/Quest for Glory
That sums it up pretty well.
Rome Total War ( Barbarian Invasion Expansion pack is the definition of awesome, then add the Fall of Rome mod for extreme win!)
HL2
Company of Heros
World in conflict
C&C Red Alert 2
S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Series
Team Fortress 2
Diablo 2: Lord of Destruction
Star Wars: Empire at War ( great game, though widly forgotten )
