I hear it all the time here. The wii sells tons of crappy shovleware games that unsuspecting non-gamers and casuals buy because they can't tell a good game from a bad game.

So which games are these? The sole bad shovleware game that has sold well that I can think of is carnival games. Not exactly an epidemic. Are there anymore? I mean, if these crappy shovleware games aren't selling, that means no one is really playing them. And if no one's even playing them, how can they be affecting the industry?

I don't have numbers, but whenever I look at the Wii section in games shops or online it's always 90% crap. Anyway, it's not what the Wii has that concerns me, it's what it hasn't.

They're not affecting the industry as much as indicating what publishers think about the Wii. They don't think much of it, apparently.

There's no denying those games are crap. They may be well-made crap, but that's beside the point.

So your personal view of a game defines what everyone else can enjoy? Now, if these games start slipping in quality, but continue to sell well, then they are shovleware crap (like mario party for example) but until then... people like them because they're apparently well made and enjoy them.

not my cup of tea, but far be it for me to deny others a well made game they enjoy.

Nor should they be denied them. But when those type of games (most of which score way worse than Petz) far outweigh titles that anyone between the ages of 7 and 50 would ever be interested in, you have a problem.

I completely agree.

But, if they're not selling, how are they hurting the industry? I'm just as upset as anyone else with the lack of quality wii games, but I don't see how these no-name shovleware titles are doing any damage.

Where would I see these sales numbers? I can find a list of million sellers, that's all. There are hundreds of these crap games, even if they each only sell 10,000, that's millions overall, millions that should have gone to good games and hardworking devs who care about quality.

GTA 4+MGS4+Gears of War 2 have sold almost what 15 million all together? If those shovelware crap were to sell 10,000 each then it would take 1500 shovelware releases to match only those 3 games. And thats only 3 games, from this year!

Shovelware has a very very low percentage when compared to the total sales of games.

I'm becoming really confused about what industry is being ruined. Is it the hardcore games industry, the industry as a whole? I really am starting to have no clue what the defenders or the haters are even talking about. Will some (perferrebly neutral) explain to me what industry is dying and why it has only started this gen.

Mario Galaxy, NMH, Brawl, all shovelware junk that have sold loads.-DrRobotnik-

Your kidding me right ? those are the few quality games on the wii mario galaxy is awesome

I would put as shovelware effortless games without any quality made to cash in on the casual consumer.

wii music, wii play, imagine babiez, we cheer, those petz games, little pet shop theres more just to many to mention.

yuk imagine babies :( wii is capable of making good quality games, but they are focused on cashing in on whats making them win the console sales wars new gamers with no clue on ****c and hardcore games.

on a business point of view it's smart why would you go back to the way gamecube was when that didn't get you as much money and on a business point of view it hurts us gamers that love the ****cs Nintendo used to shell out, I guess Nintendo figures they can give us a bone of mario galaxy and smash brothers once in a while and make profit of unuspecting moms and little kids that buy stuff like imagine babiez and petz game, which is working for them.

Me I am happy with my PC, playstation 3 and wii for awesome hardcore games like GTA IV, MGS, Dead Space, LBP, Bioshock, Resistance I go to PS 3 for games on the xbox like Gears, Halo and left4dead I go to Pc and for games like mario galaxy, metroid prime corruption and super smash brothers I go to the wii.

I guess if u have a wii I suggest getting another machine if you can afford it the best one is PS 3.

But that's just it. while I personaly would never play those games, almost all of them have acored A or higher on gamerankings...suggesting that effort was put into them...so they must have some level of qulity to score well. And since people keep buying them, they must enjoy them.

If you want to see shovleware (and I mean real shovleware, not A+ scoring games) look at stuff like Little Leagu World Baseball, Anubis, CSI Hard Evidence, or Emergency Heroes. Were talking games that don't even play...all failing to break 50K...about 250K less than needed to turn profit.

You can replace those three games with Mario Galaxy, Mario Kart, and Zelda and still get the same results. Good games sell, bad games don't. And games like wiifit or petz aren't bad games...else they wouldn't have scored as high as they did.

Theres always exceptions though like when a no-name game is really good but no one cares (Zack and Wiki, Okami) or when a really bad game sells on name alone (Mario Party, 50cent).

I don't people are saying that people are buying the shovelware. Its the fact that Wii has more pointless shovelware games then quality games. Quality games=Sell good Stupid games=Sell Bad Number of quality games=Minimum compared to number of crap games.

Well my list says Red Steel, Game Party, Deca Sports, Sonic Secret Rings, Mario and Sonic Games, Mario Party 8, Link's Crossbow Training, Brain Academy, Carnival Games all sold millions. All fairly rubbishy games. Again, not saying the Wii will kill us all but it's not encouraging. If we look at 360 we see not one crap or shovelware game. The industry is fine. How could anyone think that shovelware thats been around since the NES is ruining the industry. Because it more plentiful. In all honesty if you know not to buy shovelware, why do you care if it exist? Because it encourages devs to follow? Shovelware will never ever make a dev enough money to the point where they decide to scrap good games they can feel proud of to produce garbage. That is rediculous. I don't understand the argument either topic Creator, I really don't.

Of those, Id say only deca sports, Game party, and canival games are shovelware on that list as they are the only ones not to average roughly an A or higher.

Not sayng those other games are great, but hardly shovelware.

And people aren't dumb enough to get douped twice. Game party may have hit a million, but game party 2 sold roughly 20K. It's just like the True Crimes games on the PS2. The first one was terrible but sold multi-millions. The second one sold like crap because people aren't idiots.
