Whenever people hear the word "brand loyalty", the first thing that comes into their mind is a fanboy raving in a forum. But "brand loyalty" can mean something different to that. Brand loyalty means you like purchasing things from one company (because you appreciate their products, not because of fanboyism), rather than buying loads of things from multiple companies. For example, I have all three consoles, but I buy all my multiplat games for my 360. I also have a steering wheel to play Forza 3 with. Meanwhile, I refuse to buy a steering wheel for my PS3. Does this mean I am a fanboy because I have a steering wheel for my 360 and not my PS3? Of course not! Theres no reason to waste that money...

One of the main great things about brand loyalty is that you are streamlining your purchases through one company. Imagine owning 30 downloadable games across PSN, XBLA, WiiWare, Steam, Impulse, iPhone, iPad, etc. Confusing, no? Might as well just streamline all those purchases through one area. Oh, and you have only one Friends list to worry about when playing online, and not several.

As you can see, brand loyalty is more than just fanboyism. It makes thing feel simple, you don't have to expose your wallet or credit card number to multiple companies, and you only need one friends list. Xbox 360 is my main console, but it sucks that they dont have a (proper) gaming handheld system to connect to XBL as well (just wait for the Xpad coming soon! Just kidding!) Your thoughts? :)

As taught by biology, strength comes from variety, so I'd rather have 30 titles across 6 or 7 platforms than in only one.

for me it's very simple, it's easier to have one dedicated console, and spend your time and/or money on it, than two consoles which means that you have to be careful when choosing a console

my thought on brand loyalty is if someone makes a good product support it.

I mean i support Laney Amplification purely because they are rigidly built, sound good and gigabble i mean i could go scurry off and buy an Ampeg but its double the price made in vietnam and not as reliable...

One reason i ended up with a PS3 was because i had a PS1 that never broke and a launch PS2 that lasted nearly 7 years aswell which in my books for a optical media device getting used about 3h a day for that long is good (or i might have been lucky).

Its good to an extent if companies make a good product thats reliable and popular and especially in the case of consoles entertaining sure people will go back for more its just the way humans function.Fanboys are just rabid cant understand views and probably about 13 year old who have never ever seen the concept of a rational arguement.

Brand loyalty played a considerable part in my first purchase of this gen, the ps1 was an awesome system, the Ps2 built upon what the Ps1 had established and had no reason to expect any disappointments from the Ps3 so i bough one shortly after launch, didn't mind the price.

Loyalty, fanboyism or not, is limiting. I don't like limiting. So I buy the games for whatever platform I want or is best on, regardless of brand. They're giant corporations. I've bought their product, I owe them nothing else.

Very solid answer and right on the money. Im as far from a fanboy as you can get. For instance, I gave MS a LOT of money last gen and this gen. BUT after having so many problems with my 2 360s I have purchased I gave up and moved on. Im a Loayalist to PIONEER a/v equipment. Best you can get in my book. BUT If I were to get multiple problems with their equipment I would move on.

As much as I love PIONEER they deserve to be out of business on the TV end. They charged far too much $$$ for their TVs no matter if they were the industry standard for perfection or not. They were 2-3x more then everyone else. As for BOSE I do have 2 pair "4" of their older BOSE 301 IIIs from about 1994 and they are actually looked at as good quality speakers before BOSE sold out and went "smaller is better so charge 5x too much"

I think you're always better of buying the best product for your money. Whatever gives you the best experience or the highest quality for the money you're parting with is the thing to buy; ignore the brand altogether.

I agree with you, but "buying whatever product is best" doens't always work as planned. What if I liked the 360 steering wheel better, but liked Gran Turismo over Forza? Uh oh, looks like a have a great racing game without the correct steering wheel to support it with. I understand your point, but sometimes "buying whatever is better" doens't work out as well as you think. Its a headache, but sadly its true.

But yeah, I still agree with you overall :)

I am a bit loyal to some brands.

Logitech for PC accessories.

SeaGate or Western Digital for external/internal harddrives.

Sony for consoles, and TV's.

I do own other electronic brands, i got an Iomega 1Tb external, a 360, DS, etc.

It's just by and large i'll buy those brands becasue i like their quality and they have not failed me.

Nothing wrong with it. If someone, like, say, BioWare, is extremely consistent in their game's quality, it's perfectly reasonable to be "loyal" to their games as they never disappoint.

I buy Logitech hardware as well. Many Logitech hardware are PS3 and PC-compatible especially some of the driving wheels. Since we also have a PS3 at home, it makes sense to stick with Logitech. Brands for hardware such as keyboards doesn't matter. Any pc usb keyboard will work with our Wii or PS3 for surfing the internet.

I was very loyal to the Playstation brand. The ps1 and the ps2 were te best consoles ever IMO. I hated the 1st xbox. But when most of my buddies and co-workers starting getting 360's, i broke down and got one right around the time the ps3 came out. the ps3 was overpriced and it made me angry so i bought a 360 and its been the best decision ive made this gen. yeah i eventually bought a ps3 and its had its moments where it felt like old times, but ive had the most fun on the 360 this gen. so i guess i wasnt as loyal to sony as i thought i was, and now its cool because i can enjoy all games instead of hating on one particular platform

Never had it with consoles, why would you, it's silly, if the brand you like has terrible games that don't interest you and you still bought the console you are not a loyal consumer you sir, are a buffoon. I have it with other objects but mainly down to quality, I always buy Sony MP3 players because they're cheaper than iPods, have better sound and other features that I prefer.

Brand loyalty is definitely not the same as fanboyism IMO. I've always been a Sony fan since I've rarely had a bad experience with their products, so they're usually the first I go to when buying electronics. However if there are other companies who can make something clearly better than I'd usually go with that.

Samsung TVs are excellent quality for example, while bravias are in my opinion the best, samsung plasma tvs are very reliable and cheaper, hence my tv is a samsung plasma, my surround sound system is a sony, as well as my Ps3 but a bravia was too expensive and not worth it for the time being, my next tv purchase should be a bravia though.

There's nothing wrong with having a preferred brand, especially if you're use to it and it never burned you in the past.

My family has used Sony products for as long as I can remember, and every Sony product we have STILL works... even a tv that has been dropped, cracked on the back due to a winter truck ride, and still works perfectly. Then there's my playstations that have never given me a second of trouble, despite also taking various abuse... contrasted with an original xbox that I'm perpetually frustrated with, and my girlfriend's 360 which decided it hated life and refused to live any longer after being used for all of 3 hours.

I don't have a lot of money, so I put it where I've been rewarded in the past.

This^. I have a buddy that has a sony cell phone, sony mp3 player, sony reciever, sony hdtv, sony ps3 and i'm not sure but I would bet a sony pc. I like sony and all but they demand more money for the same or sometimes inferior product based on name alone. First time he came over and saw my 360 he made fun of it's power brick, lol. thats when I learned fanboys exist in real life outside of these forums. You don't always get what you pay for.

brand loyalty is stupid. Play games not the company. Company fanboys are the worst. I had a x-box and a PS2 last gen but so far this gen only a 360.

nothing at all wrong with brand loyalty. If i buy things from a company and it does what i want it to do and gives me long trouble free service then im def more apt to buy from that company again. how ever being so loyal to so in so company that you become blinded to said companies faults or refuse to accept another companies advantages then it becomes a problem. When you get upset by a negative comment made about your brand of choice even if it has a bases of truth then you have a problem. no company pays my bills and they dont give me any thing for free so why should i be 100% faithfull to them. as long as they serve my nedds or wants for a reasonable price and put out a reliable product then im going to buy there product. if another company puts out a better product at a cheaper price then i may give them a try. after all varity is the spice of life right?

loyality in the sense that i buy their games becouse i like them is okey

but loyality as in only buying products from 1 company only is silly

why would you have cake only? when you can have cake and pudding

i myself buy everything from grasshopper manufacturer, and platinum games/former clover studios

but that simply becouse i have loved all their past games, and when i buy something from them i know i will like it.

they make the types of games i like. im not refering to genre, but how they make games as a whole.

thats loyality for me, i buy games no matter of platform they are on.

on the one i like most or the ones that arent my favorits.

What if the competition makes a good product too, not support it? That's why I have both PS3 and 360. I don't miss on playing great games because of some stupid alliance to a company that couldn't care less about me.

If I've had a good experience with a product from a certain company I'm likely to consider other products from it before other companies. But in the end I always try to do the research and make an informed decision. Unless the thing's really cheap.

I see what you mean, i always buy Sony products because of how reliable they are, and i like the value for money.
