What console has the best/worst name?

I'm not trying to bash the brand, since I owned all three systems last generation and enjoyed my Xbox just as much as my PS2, but it has to be said: Xbox is a terrible name for a console.

It sounds so juvenile, like something an eleven year old would think up, whereas PlayStation is apt, mature sounding and has a ring to it.

Does anybody else feel this way?

And if you don't, feel free to bash the names of other consoles.

BTW, Wii is an utterly weird name for a console, but it's interesting unlike Xbox.

XBOX sounds wrong. For one thing, in some cultures, X signifies negation. In Japan, for example, the X means "Cancel" or "No" or "Deny". Kinda like where here, in NA, "X" means "target" and "confirm", and "O" means "Cancel" (Playstation controller analogy), it also explains why the console poorly sells in Japan : It's like, if you were to translate it, it were named "The FailBox", or "The BoXOfNo".

At least PlayStation sounds more internationally accepted. And it genuinely sounds like a console name. A little station, for plays. In other words, a gaming apparatus.

In North America, the "X" in gaming means "Target"/"Confirm"/"Accept", and "O" the exact opposite (using Playstation controller analogy), it may also explain partially why the console poorly sells in Japan : Promoting a console where its biggest symbol is an "X" isn't market-friendly, considering the fact that if you were to translate it, the significance of the "X" would make the Microsoft Console look less trustworthy, somewhere along the lines of a "FailBox", or "BoXOfNo", or "BadBox".

I don't remember, but I don't think it matters. I mean, who care's how cool what your acronym stands for if the letters spell wii? I mean, can you have say "I need to go home and play with my wii" with a strait face? It's hard to say the name of the console in a sentance including the word play without it sounding like a euphamism.

Wii just sounds stupid, Playstation sounds like a fisher price toy, and Xbox sounds like something those jerks in Harold and Kumar thought of. EXTREME!!!!

I totally agree. I remember that time i went on gamespot a few years back and i saw a big font saying "Wii" on the website. i was like "woah some new game?"

Xbox 360 is by far the dumbest thing I have ever heard in my life. Not only did "X-Box" sound bad and horribly generic enough on its own, but then they decided to throw on a meaningless number because things that go in circles are fun. Wow just wow. It's almost like they are trying to make fun of their own brand. Hey guys how about we throw the letter X in front of the word Box! How cool is that? Ummmmm yeah!... wait no.... just no.

Yeah I gotta agree with you on the Sega consoles. They are all really good names.

I was always fond of the name "Magnavox Odyssey".

The wii is an alright name, yet it gets boring to say after a while or tiring at time. But the name suits it.

Wii means toghether in Japeness if anybody cares and I like it. there better not be a PS4 it would be even worse than the horrible Xbox360

The xbox360 has the best name because when it breaks (RROD) you have to send it to Microsoft and then they send it back to you thus making a 360.
