Theoretically they could merge. Therefore, no buyout.

They dropped a small company(ensemble studios). How do you expect them to take over a corporation.

Here is my scenario: MSFT and Sony merge to form a deity console. Apple gets into console gaming as well as EA...SO we would have 4 main competitors instead of 3.

I definitely don't think Microsoft would buy the whole of Sony (if they even could), but possibly just the gaming division. EA, Ubisoft, or one of the other big 3d party game-makers is much more likely though.

I can't imagine Sony, MS, or Nintendo merging with any major publishers at this point, let alone each other.

Lmao if only sony had that much money. MS could probably buy a bunch of them in your list. I have 2: Microsoft buying out Nintendo. Dice seperating from EA, Infinity Ward seperating from Activision and then DICE and Infinity Ward combining to join!

They dropped in mostly because it was underperforming.

I think it would be pretty big for Sony and Sega to merge, they would have great first party support, and they have already flirted a few times with Sony ( ToV, Valkyria Chronicles, Yakuza ).

thatd be cool but I see Sega fusing with MS or Nintendo before they would with sony, when the dreamcast died almost all of its games went to either nintendo (sonic adventure, Samba de amigo) or MS (Jet Set Radio, Shenmue) only one atm that I can think of that went to Sony was Papparappa.

either way though sega tends to be completely spread out with there titles, also I think ms fusing with Sony would be pretty cool.

Even if the thought of Sony and Microsoft merging as one company comes to light, it may run into problems as shareholders may object to the merger, and the U.S. and Japanese governments may investigate whether it is a violation of anti-trust laws. Having two video game companies instead of three may pose a threat to competition, as there are less competitors. A duopoly (Sony-Microsoft and Nintendo) is a problem to competition as a monopoly.

well there's also the Yakuza series and Valkyria Chronicles I'd be happy to see SEGA with SONY though..

Microsoft using their corrupt business powers to buy out the ESRB, making all upcomeing Nintendo and Sony titles AO and banned in the US, if not by legislature than by most major retailors.

Sony is worth more as a company then micro$oft is, M$ could not buy sony, they just don't have enough. Allot of people forget that Sony has a huge share of the Electronics market aside form gaming, such as TV's. They also have a share in the profits from Blu-Ray.
