What did you expect from nintendo?

Considering the criticism nintendo gets this gen, I thought I'd see what opinions people went into this gen with.

When I first heard about Virtual Console, I was pretty excited. While I always prefered the games on sony systems, I owned both N64 and gamecube, which I consider to be very worthwhile consoles. Which is part of why virtual console was so exciting (N64), especially when I never owned a snes.

Anyways, I expected the revolution to be a console like N64 and Gamecube. Not on top, but a solid library and decent support from 3rd party developers. There's this notion that anyone who criticizes the system is just insulting the wii to insult the wii. But what about those of us who expected nintendo to provide a competent secondary console?

I nearly bought a system, before I looked at the upcoming library and couldn't justify it's purchase for myself. What happened this gen? Nintendo is king, yet developers treat the system like a losing console. And what has nintendo done? Yes, they produced the games that they always do, but should we put greater responsibility on the maker of the snes? It's almost as if Nintendo encourages the state of the wii, because the wii is profitable regardless. I'm finding it hard to respect the company, like i did last gen (I felt the gamecube was a very good system).

Maybe people are content with the wii because they didn't expect more from the system.

I expect pretty much the same thing we got last year. A whole bunch of games nobody was interested in.

All I wanted was good games. I got what I wanted, I have no regrets. The quality could improve yes but its not exactly like third parties have even tried to give the console AAA content so I'm not exactly going to cry. I knew all of this going in and I was not surprised so I basically expected to get a decent system and got just that.

It's one thing to say some of those games don't fit your gaming preference, but to ignore all of those games? SW acts like PS3 is so great but is bombing hard in the real world and only has a few good exclusive games so far, the 360 library has been great but is running dry with not much to show for the remainder of the year, so why is the Wii constantly bashed? It makes no sense. Stupid trends, lack of knowledge, and a false sense of reality is what you get from SW sadly.

I expected the best 1st party/2nd party games, greastest downloadable legacy games from past consoles, fun intuitive controls/games my friends/family/random hot chick can pick up and enjoy with me.Also, reliable hardware that won't give me any **** and the Wii delivered.

I expected fun games that can bring out the kid in you and i got just that. It's not a console for the hardcore and everyone should have known that. Nintendo has always been about entertaining kids. Now they're whoring themselves out to hardcore gamers with their recent additions to their game library, which i half-expected anyway, but they are doing a solid job with them and nonetheless gaining more attention again.

I expected awesome 1st party titles, and thats exactly what i got. i also expected lots of great 3rd party titles... i didnt get so much of that

I admit at the start of the gen I was upset with Sony for the arrogance and forcing Blu Ray on everyone, but I've let it go and am all buds with Sony once again. I just can't understand how some people can hate a brand for no real reason. What's funny is the HUGE majority of Wii bashers don't even own the system and try to use SW as a legit source for info that develops their dislike.

i agree the wii is better and some ( PS3 and 360 fanboys ) cant accept that thier suped up and expensive consoles dont have games that have a decent story like and have meaning IMO

I don't have a grudge against nintendo. In fact, while I did say i don't like the fact that nintendo isn't trying to fix what I consider a problem, I don't really know where to put the blame. I'm not so critical of nintendo, as much as I am of the wii. Like I said, I like the gamecube. It's a good console and I'm glad to own it. I am critical of the wii however.

I don' think it's "very good." I mean, yes these are games that are decent games, but they're nothing to justify buying a wii over.

As for Muramasa, the article was vague and wasn't clear as to whether or not the game had been picked up to be published from another company yet, despite the subtitle. The game has been picked up, so thats that. I really don't have anything against Muramasa. I bought Odin Sphere and I would buy Muramasa. But these are the kind of games that justify console purchases.

For it to be some monster 3rd party machine? LOL, yeah cuz the Gamecube and N64 were 3rd party champions over their competition :roll: Even then you've got Mad World and No More Heroes (and I don't wanna hear crap about them not selling well since the same people saying that are the same ones saying, "you can't play sales" when the Wii is dominating hardware and software charts), House of the Dead, Conduit, World of Good, Silent Hill, Muramasa, Rune Factory and a gang of other quality 3rd party games showing up. Most of those are this year and beyond so if anything 3rd party support is getting profoundly better and more robust as time goes on. Did you expect hq first party titles? I mean, they've released A to Game of the Year quality titles for: Mario platformer, Mario Kart, Mario Spinoff, Smash Brothers, Metroid, Excite Bike and Zelda. It looks like Punch Out is gonna fall into that category as well. The only missing franchise is Star Fox, not because they released a game and it sucks, but because they haven't made one yet. They've got hq games in practically every single franchise that they own and they've made new franchises with hit games as well. Like what were people realistically expecting from the Wii that it hasn't delivered on? The only thing I could think of would be a system that's 100% out of whack with the philosophy that Nintendo established towards gaming since the 1980s.Senor_Kami

N64 and Gamecube weren't leading the sales charts. That's the difference. If it's the sales leader, it should also have the biggest projects. Not the type of games that are coming out for the wii now. Why do third parties not want to develop for the system? If the wii is on top, then it's library should be better than the gamecube's, but I actually think the gamecube's is better than the wii's.

I'm not interested in Mad World, No More Heroes, House of the Dead, Conduit, World of Goo, Silent Hill, or Rune factory. These aren't titles I would have played last gen, and these arent games that I would play now (Silent Hill on the principle that it's ruining a good game). At the same time I'm not interested in Killzone and Gears of War before you label me.

I think Nintendo has delivered on it's first party, except for a Zelda game. I own TP on gamecube.

The Gamecube library is vastly superior to Wii. The third party games were actually pretty good, such as Soul Calibur II, SSX Tricky, Prince of Persia, and etc. On Wii, I notice that its library is stocked full of shovelware. Sure, there are gems like Super Mario Galaxy, but there isn't much else to look at. Really, I bought Wii for the first party games. So, I probably got what I paid for.

I am really disappointed with the overall quality of games for Wii. The Gamecube experience is just better in nearly every way.

I think some people just want to hate the Wii. Ever since the PlayStation, it started to become the "cool" thing to hate Nintendo. For better or for worse, they never went down the hyper violent path. Mario never got a shotgun. Metroid never had you blowing someone's head up with blood all over the screen, they never gave you Zelda half naked and looking like a whore. But they never gave you a less than stellar Mario game. Every Zelda game even on the Wii is AAA. Metroid stayed AAA material even on the Wii. Ninty was always in last place since the 64 so I guess people didn't want to kick a dog while while it's down so they just bottled up the hatred. It was like a horrible betrayal. How dare Nintendo make a AAA game that doesn't have a shotgun!!!

Now that the Wii is a monster, they're letting it out. All of it is coming out. It's crazy. If there is a great game on the Wii, it doesn't count as a good game cuz it's on the Wii. If they've got like 50 good games, thats bad cuz they should have 50 million good games. When they have well reviewed titles in like every genre, it doesn't count... cuz now you hate every genre of game imaginable. The Wii is starting to get quality 3rd party support that Nintendo hasn't seen since like the SNES, but it doesn't count. The first year was bad so despite year three looking to be really good, year one only counts. Until Nintendo can hop in the Delorian with Marty McFly and undo year one, it's cool to ignore EVERYTHING that has happened since then.

Where is this coming from? Do you really resent Pokemon and bright colors that much? It's like Nintendo betrayed you (they betrayed gamers by making almost 100% AA+ games...?). Like they murdered your family in cold blood or slept with your girlfriend behind your back.

Seriously, what is it? I've never seen such vitrol towards a system before. Lems don't go at cows like this, cows don't go at lems like this... hermits don't go at console owners like this. They may toss shots at each other, but there is a real deal hatred towards Nintendo... a hatred with a deep passion behind it that I just don't understand.
