Face it, we all thought that this thing was going to have 1:1 movement for complex motions and skills in most of its games

remember when it was first unveiled? the speculation? "ZOMG!!!!! imagine a star wars game with real lightsaber motion!!!"

or red steel, people expected that the swordfighting would require actual skill handling the wiimote-sword to defeat the "higher dificulty enemies due to improved repose time for the player thanks to the wiimote"

or "this will be the ULTIMATE CONTROL for FPS!!!!!"

i always thought that thanks to the free movement of the wiimote, games were going to have more complex situations to deal with.....instead..... we got to draw figures in the air to do tricks in ssx blur

truth be told, there's one thing that wiimote does good, AIMING A CURSOR ON THE SCREEN, much better than an analogue, but its something that a mouse has been doing for years , hence nothing that new

because dont tell me that swinging the wiimote whatever you like and Link doing the same sword slash in zelda was what you were expecting , a fancy button replacement is not "TEH REVOLUTION IN VIDEOGAMES"

what did you expected from wiimote previous to launch? and enough with the "give it time" excuse

I always saw it as quite of a gimmick... I always knew that it would basically be like bringing those arcade games home. Don't get me wrong, it's probably fun as hell. It just isn't a flying car or anything.

So much more fun for them if they wave the thing in the air- lol - for example - while I play Crackdown sometimes when jumping roof tops I wave the 360 contoller in the air and man is that some Innovation, you should try it and see what it adds to the fun factor ( sarcasm ) in case you did'nt know ;)

I expected something smart and intuitive at first.  Wii Sports was just that, but i was hoping for a full blown game to use it.

It's sad that I had to wait until the Godfather before I saw some promise.  The controls for that game feel great.

i expected simple intuitive games at first, which is what weve got. Its been a little too long now, but finally some descent well made games are being well put together. "Gears" if you really thought that a full blown star wars lightsaber, magnifico, darth maul, gun toting game to be released at the very beginning of a systems lifespan, you were expecting the impossible. As it has been told many times before, devs have only just started to make full "ground-up" wii games.

i dont feel that we've seen the limits of the wiimote.  It will never be like holding a lightsaber, but it can give a similar experience with clever compromises.  In warioware, there's that "oh man, the enemy" game that uses sword fighting.  I imagine any sword fighting game will build on that model (especially the hardest, fastest enemy)

I didn't think it was going to replace button pushing with hand moving. I think motion should only be used to have the on-screen action match your movement. So waving your hand to slash your sword in Zelda is just making youre hand tired for no good reason.

Waving it to match a sword movement 1 to 1 is what it really should do, or to push something off you (Like the motion in Resistance) is more natural. Using the nunchuk to turn the camera in Marvel Ultimate Alliance is a pain, especially since you have to keep your hand leveled or the camera will turn all the time.

Motion should be 1 to 1 or not used at all.

the wii's motions are 1:1.  There are instances where I swear they slow it down for gameplay reasons.

my  hand was never tired playing zelda. maybe you didn't find the right way to rest your hands on your sides. it's not like zelda was a high action game. there's many long pauses between action scenes. the slashing was never for prolonged periods of time. as for 1 to 1 motion. that's something i'd like to see more of too.

Since I actually OWN the wii, and not just judging it from the sidelines...I love the Wii controller and feel it delivers on everything it is supposed to.  Just because developers haven't managed to work it into their games perfectly, doesn't mean it is a fault with how the controller works.  Some games will work better than others.

Frankly, I love how Twilight Princess controls.  I love being able to run and do actions by moving the remote but then do a quick weapons change and have perfect accuracy.  I love how Trauma Centre controls thanks to the mouse like motion (nobody said this was new in this regard).  Hell, I even loved how the controller worked for Sonic despite the games many shortcomings.

Now I'm waiting for a golf game that works properly (unlike Tiger Woods which sucked but showed promise).

I donno. I pretty much figured FPS controls would be problomatic. Given I thought someone would have been able to think up a better way from the start (I know I did) but I knew some wouldn't get it right away. Sadly, I was wrong. As for 1:1 movement, yeah I pretty much got nailed there.

You thought developers who got about 3 months to learn ho to use the Wiimote are going to pull out the most of it? Talk about high expectations. Learning how to use hardware takes time... and the Wiimote is no different.

I respect your opinion on the Wiimote Gears360, however I had very similar thoughts as you did regarding the Nintendo DS touchscreen. When I first saw the touchscreen, I thought it was a gimmick that is not really useful for gaming. I was wrong, I have a Nintendo DS and I cannot explain how fun it is to use a touchscreen instead of buttons :)

I take it as another way to play the game. It's like playing with a Guncon for specific games. Fun for some games? Yes. Feels like a gimmick, yes! Swing to a specific direction to kick, when you could of just press X on a gamepad.

It's capable of 1:1, and some games need "fancy buttons", try playing Trauma Center, DDR, or Guitar Hero with a standard controller.

Gears360

1. it does have 1:1 movement, look at Wii baseball and warioware.

2. LOL, using Red Steel as an example when everybody knows it was rushed.

3. Ever heard of MP:3? That already has good FPS controls and i'm talking about an early build from september.

4.Why would it get complex? It's supposed to get simpler. Also how do you expect casuals and Non-gamers to play with complex control schemes.

5. A mouse type control has never been brought to a console before, that is something new

6.Zelda controls were literally tacked on for Wii launch.

7. "give it time" is not an excuse, it's a fact, ever bought a system at launch before? compare those games to the ones 3-5 years down the line.

The Wiimote is capable of 1:1 motion detection it's just that no developer has yet figured out how to put it into a game properly.
