What did you think about FFXIII's music?

Just the music, not the game itself (I know what this forum thinks about FFXIII and it's not pretty).

I thought the music was pretty good, but I felt it lacked something compared to previous FF music, especially FFX's masterful soundtrack.

IDK what it was about the music, but it felt like there were not enough memorable tunes and that too much of the music was pleasant sounding ambient filler. The only three pieces I found to be memorable was the battle music, which has some gorgeous strings in it, the Sunleth Waterscape music, and the main theme (which sounds like it has elements of the Sunleth Waterscape tune in it). The rest sounded good, but didn't seem too memorable.

Also, I love "My Hands" but I'm not going to open up that can of worms.

Am I in the minority when I say that FFXIII's music was a step down from the rest of the series? Or do you guys agree with me?

Theres some decent tunes in there.. Some of it average JPop fare at best. Nothing that captures the passion and atmosphere of nobuo uematsu's music. Ofcourse a good soundtrack doesn't mean much when the rest of the game sucks.

It's not up to the very high standards of Nobuo Uematsu, but they are pretty good.

Far better than the game itself (which isn't saying much) but I do think both it and XIII-2 have two of the best soundtracks of this gen.

Mostly forgettable except the one that plays in Noel's timeline.

I agree with Giancar that it isn't in the same class as the best examples of the series, but it's still comfortably among the best this generation.

It was good IMO especially the fighting theme Blinded by the Light and I also bought the limited edition OST.

The battle theme was the sh*t.

Sabers Edge... and that regular enemy music that some guy on youtube plays with his violin really well.....

I have to say this though... FF13 sucks !!!!! I Hope they never again release another final fantasy like that disaster.. I should have been robbed the day i bought it and shot on my foot so it would have stopped me from buying that thing that has given me haunted memories.... the horror.... the horror..... why o why!!!!

the only saving grace of that game, well with the graphics. I still listen to the soundtrack on my phone to this very day

Where's the it's okay option? The menu theme and battle the were great but aside from that it was just okay. Not amazing but not bad. One of the better aspects of the game along with the graphics.

Pretty good. Not the highlight of the series though.

Pretty good. Some tracks were excellent. Some were garbage. Not very memorable compared to alot of the older titles, but neither was FFXII which also had some great tracks.

I agree that it doesn't stand up to the series best, but how many games out there really do? Square/SE has produced some of the best music in gaming.

I also agree that FFX's ost is top f*cking notch.

... where I seem to disagree with everyone on Earth is the Sunleth Waterscape. Sounds like mall music to me.

I didint find nothing wrong with the music. I really enjoyed the battle music. Side note I also enjoyed the game.

The battle theme is pretty boss. It works so well with the fluent battle system.

Not memorable. FF music was at the top of the gaming industry. But this one was just ok. FF6 soundtrack is glorious, and the PS1 FF's were almos as good.Giancar

that sounds like any generic action movie soundtrack from last decade its actually really boring and honestly cliche to what FF's done which is extremely varied, its dabbled with metal (otherworld) and symphonic rock (OWA from advent children) aswell as piano ballads like To Zanarkand or say faith like hymns (hmyn of the faith), as well as the games having pretty modern sounding soundtracks and using orchestral arrangement in weird ways.

Heres a good example of it in practice and live.

and that song consistently comes out amongst the top when it comes to video game music? but nope as SNIPER says because its JRPG its crappy? son you need to base your musical merits off the songs themselves and not the genre of the game thats called being blind and ignorant.

FFXIII music = amazing

FFXIII-2 music = garbage

They went from amazing orchestral score to a pop music nightmare in the blink of just one game.

The music for FF13 was actually really good. My fav is probably the song that played during the garpa whitewood section great stuff.

FF music has always been stellar... It's other parts of the games that SE need to improve. FF used to be the pinnacle of JRPG games in terms of popularity.

Moderately decent. None of the tracks really seemed to stand-out, for good or bad. FFX is the best of the series if you want top-notch music.
