It's smart, there keeping the core element we have now for free. Charging extra for features that we may or may not want. XBL doesn't even give you an option

I don't really mind since I wouldn't use it that much. I might subscribe to it if they do the free PS1 ****ics thing though.

that Core element will get smaller and smaller. I think its better the way Live is set up, you have the service, and they continue to make it better and better.

Well, I find it odd that Sony would charge for a feature so many have wanted. So cross game chat is finally coming, hooray! But since it's a premium feature, chances are many people won't have it. You may want to chat with some of your friends while playing different games, but then they'll be like 'sorry man, I'm not paying for PSN so I don't have cross game chat'. As a feature many people want, I don't think it's fair to include it exclusively in the premium PSN package.

Sony should have made cross game chat a free feature, but whatever. At least online play will still be free.

It's still not confirmed yet that it's gonna be on premium or not. It's only survey that means nothing to us

People who say this are those who dont have friends that play online, cross game chat + party chat are easily the best features this gen for those with friends online.

if you have friends you want to talk to. you can talk to them while you each do your own thing. one of you could be playing ff13 or the other could be playing god of war 3. i always see people in parties on xboxlive each playing their own games. its kinda like free long distance calling all over the world. but i guess its not free but still alot cheaper then if you tried to do it on a phone

its smart... you can buy a game(lbp,u2,mw2) and press online and you can play free...

but if you are a guy that plays online games the most and like miultiplayer you pay for subscription to have cross-game chat(and other benefits)

if you play 2-3 maps caually every time and prefer single player etc you dont...

if its cheaper than ms its very ok...

To be crystal clear... this is not a done deal. This feature and the prospect of a subscription fee were only part of a survey. Nothing is confirmed. This is all just speculation.

what do i think about sony considering charging for cross chat? id like to see it free but i dont see the big deal for them charging for it, the people who are most demanding of it probably already play more on Live because of it, and if another company's charging for it, i dont see why sony cant

If Sony does indeed decide to charge for their crossgame chat, it will show that maybe crossgame chat is very expensive to implement and MAYBE it's why MS went for a subsciption service as the base model for XBL, rather than doing it for free. As far as services go, MS has been far better at looking into the future and knowing what they want XBL to be than Sony has with PSN. It certainly will prove that to be of parity with XBL you will have to spend money after all.

Say what you want about whether you like the feature or not, the truth of the matter is that Sony has been very dodgy about cross game chat's implementation so far. The network's been up and running for at least 2 years and you mean to tell me that they couldn't have figured out how to make it work by now? Somethings up. And it's a pretty big coincidence that as soon as they get really close to saying cross game chat is available, suddenly this idea for subscription services pops up.

Better than charging for online. I'm curious as to who wants chat so bad that they'd pay for it though.

I guess, but usually me and my friends either play at my place or at theirsetc.... I guess it's cool for people with online friends :)

I have plenty of friends that play online. I don't understand it, why would I want to be talking to friends when I should be talking to other people in the match I'm playing? Or if I wanted to talk with them, wouldn't I just play the game with them? It doesn't make sense to me. On the PC, I always play with friends with voice chat, but as soon as we're not playing the same game, we leave Ventrilo. Why? Because what's the point in talking to them if you're not even doing the same thing?

If you're just playing deathmatch, I don't see why you wouldn't want to chat with your friends instead of the random rabble. It may not even be in mulitplayer games. If in single player campaign, it's good to be in touch with your friends no matter what they're doing. Of course, there are times where it's not appropriate, and everyone can use their discretion. But it's a great feature for those situations where you just want to casually yap with your buddies.

If you play more than one game with your friends or are trying to organize some gaming sessions, it's a good feature to have.It eliminates having to call people or send text messages. It's convenient.

Speaking of which..... was there even any mention of a party system or universal cross-game invite system? I think these are just as important, if not more so.

A lot of people on my friends list are people I socialize with personally or work with. But it is next to impossible to game with all of them in the same room. But we can get together and play Borderlands or whatever and talk crap while we are playing. After that we can also decide on whats next and switch to that. Often we use XBL as chat for the PS3. We can then switch back to the 360, all without skipping a beat and never losing contact with each other.

[QUOTE="KHAndAnime"] I have plenty of friends that play online. Why? Because what's the point in talking to them if you're not even doing the same thing?KHAndAnime

I guess so. I just figured the last place I'd yap with my buddies is on a console, considering there are many better places to do it. :P

Context.

If you're playing a game. And they're already on, doing something else on their consoles, I don't see anything else that more convenient that just using the cross-game chat feature.

Bingo! I don't even want it.

i don't see why not you wouldn't like to talk to your friends while playing different games?

No. They will probably be in the same game I am. If not PM me. Simple.

The amount of menu navigating you need to do to start the chat, tell them, and exit the chat, is probably the equivalent of a simply sending them a message. And you don't even have to push yourself onto them by taking over whoever they might already be talking to just to ask them if they want to play.

None sense that's why texting isn't more popular than talking on the phone .... oh wait ...
