What do you consider a "Hardcore" gamer these days?

The term gets thrown around so much these days that it's almost lost all meaning. I have seen people who play on Iphones claim that they are hardcore just because they play it a lot and spend a long time playing those games.So to you what would you consider the term to mean?

I've really given up with these definitions.

We're just gamers.

A no-lifer who thinks gaming is anything but a hobby.

The one who won't let you shut the machine off, or end competition, until he/she has the highest score in Super Monkey Ball. And yes, I'm being serious.

I believe the term "hardcore" suggests someone who is a fanatical gamer; someone who puts hundreds of hours into games on a fairly regular basis, completes everything in most games they play, is obsessed with being on the leader board, and who buys games often before food: those are some descriptions of a hardcore gamer in my opinion. I don't believe it has anything to do with the types of games you play like some people.

People who are dedicated to gaming.

That's the "hardcore" that applies to all things.

Watching TV and listening to music are considered hobbies. Anyone who plays a game on their spare time has gaming as a hobby, whether they realize it or not.

By your definition, anyone who plays games is a "hardcore" gamer.

But eh........ it's whatever. :P

Hardcore gamers don't just play for the sake of fun. They take it to a new level and enter tournaments. Hardcore gamers are all about the competition. They'll pour hundreds of hours into one game and master it.

I consider hardcore gamers those that hate short, linear, shallow titles like Uncharted and like to play huge, complex RPGs with infinite gameplay variety and challenges for 100-400 hours

That exludes MMOs that are 399 hours of grinding and 1 hour of varied gameplay, that is also casual in my mind

Plays a lot, and has been playing for a long time.

Basically anyone that considers gaming as an important hobby. Playing a lot of hours a week. Playing games that are before the players time. Expanding to other related gaming stuff like collectibles, trying to huge gaming collections and system collections(even if hardly played), learning the history of videogames from books. Going pro. Stuff like that.

A hardcore gamer is a dedicated gamer, a knowledgeable gamer, and a gamer who can afford lots of games. majadamus

Someone who dies after playing lots of hour straight = ASIAN level.

I'm just a gamer. Hardcore, casual... it's all the same really.

Although I will say that most people on System Wars don't even get classed as a gamer in my opinion. Most people on here are just fanboys and haters. Some of them like to pretend that it's just for lulz but we all know that's not true.

Someone who knows about the less talked about games and plays more than the average person.

People who play hardcore skill based games like starcraft, CS, Quake etc.
