Out of my entire library of PS4 games less than 10% of them are from PlayStation first party. I feel that Sony is really weak in this regard. In my opinion, I think they have very little long lasting quality franchises. They just don't keep their ips fresh enough to last for a long time and are in constant flux.

The one franchise that I liked and thought had the most potential for long term growth is Infamous. They could make a new game every gen with a new hero with a new power, and a new way to play. However the game play is weak, and Second Son felt like a step back.

Nintendo by comparison, has an amazing catalog and even the older franchises that don't get attention, (cough F-zero, cough Advanced Wars) are still highly demanded all the time by fans.

What do you think is PlayStation's best 1st Party franchise and why?

Note: In house developed games only, NO third party exclusives

They failed to make something as iconic as Mario or Halo, mainly because they weren't talented enough to compete with Nintendo at the same stuff and left it too late to make a 'Halo Killer'. At best we got modern Naughty Dog (which came out of Gears Of War to be honest). They gave us The Last Of Us and 2 good Uncharted games. Gran Turismo is pretty iconic, but even then Forza is no slouch and Mario Kart sells more again. You get a PlayStation for the library it will accumulate, not it's first party.

I for one do not see how Infamous: Second Son is a step back, in fact, Second Son was a huge improvements over the 2 Infamous games but however, it was short yes but and the evil path was lackluster but the whole game was really fun to that.

I personally don't feel that Sony doesn't need there own first party to call it home, not like Nintendo but I do like Sony for trying out and taking more risk with newer IP games then Nintendo or even MS combine, Sony is the only Co, to take more risks on different exclusive games, not there own house 1st party games.

Twisted Metal Games comes to mind.

I don't know if they're Sony's best franchises, but I think their most iconic franchises are Uncharted and God of War. Those are the game series which immediately trigger the thought of "popular AAA Sony exclusives".

I don't own my PlayStation just for the total library it accumulates. I own it solely for the exclusives, and first party is definitely part of that. They have produced quite a few great games already this gen (in particular Uncharted 4 and Horizon: Zero Dawn).

The Last of Us is the best game since Half Life 2, so that (this hyperbole stuff is infectious)

Not a franchise, but I like Ueda's games above anything else sony has produced. Otherwise The Last of Us is about to become a franchise, and the first game was quite good. God of War I don't like the first game, but the 2nd game is pretty good, the third game is only good for about the first half, then it's all downhill. Uncharted sucks 50% of the time it comes out.

I don't really care for Sony first party ips all that often. I sort of like the Infamous games (the first two more so than the third), but even then those games are closer to "aight" than "good".

Omega Boost. There's only one game, but I'd take it over everything else. After that I'd go with Gravity Rush.

Gran Turismo, God of War, Uncharted, Infamous, Bloodborne, just to name a few. Sony's first party games are only outdone by nintendo.

I think Infamous 2 is the best one, one of the better games of last gen.

Sucker Punch might announce a new Infamous at E3 this year. Or a new IP. Time will tell.

Twisted Metal is probably dead after that 2012 reboot flopped

Sony is adored for having a variety of ships, Not flagships.

The difference in overall libary by the end of every gen is its flagship.

Maybe Gran Turismo before it was getting outclassed? Twisted Metal back in its better days? I definitely enjoyed the first two Team Ico games, haven't gotten into TLG yet.

I dunno, nothing I'm really willing to go to bat for. Sony's 1st party stuff is basically an ocean of mediocrity with the occasional good game. It's the great 3rd party exclusives that sell me on Sonys consoles.

Toss up between Twisted Metal, Socom and Motorstorm. Games just offered exciting multiplayer matches. Just pains me that we havent seen a new Motorstorm. Socom kinda fell off the wagon after PS2 but would love to see it reimagined for a future game, same with Twisted Metal, can only imagine if given time they could make a killer TM on Ps4.

Ah, forgot about Socom, Socom 2 was pretty dope.

Pretty sure Sony was only involved as a publisher with Bloodborne. And even if they did play a minor hand in development, it's pretty obvious which team really designed and developed the game. Bloodborne is not a 1st party title. That'd be like calling Bayo 2 a 1st party title.

Yes it is. It's developed by From Soft and Sony Team Japan.

Fromsoft is the primary development studio and its not sony's first party. A lot of third party studios wortk with sony developers when developing on their platform.

Sony doesnt really need iconic franchise to rehash every year or 2 like mario related games or halo related games. They are the company to go if you wish to experience a wide variety of games and experience. The reason why playstation is so successful.

Their most iconic franchise is gran tourismo obviously. Also, in my opinion their studios is also considered iconic. Naughty dogs, team ico, sucker punch, santa monica etc. some people do buy playstation for games from these studio.

I really liked Sly Cooper back in the day. Reminds me of my favorite days of gaming. In my childish opinion, was the best game series I had ever played. Loved the way you climbed on environments, the huge variety in bosses and missions, and the lighthearted approach to stealth. Sure the first game was short, but reminds me of the summer after 3rd grade.

I think its great that they don't milk most of their franchises to death and are willing to take risks.

My favorite Sony franchise is Uncharted. TLOU is fantastic as well, but we are talking 4 great games vs 1 great game.

The God of War franchise is pretty special. I didn't necessarily care for Ascension or the PSP games (played them on PS3), but 1-3 were epic. I'm hopeful that the next one will be dope. It's hard to tell from what they've shown so far.

Just going to list some good games that were actually at least helping develop:

White Knight Chronicles 1 and 2, The Unfinished Swan, Puppeteer (purely them), Knack (I kid, but it was made alone), and Gravity Rush 1 and 2.

The main thing you should realize is that SCE Japan is a fucking great studio that is massively underappreciated.

I'm going with infamous as well. It's a rare case of a Sony exclusive being a blast to play. The premise is also something I've always wanted to experience personally. I'd definitely be down for the complete series remastered.

I think what makes Sony unique as a publisher is that their development teams usually don't focus on one or two series, but are constantly doing different things. They've produced games like Sly Cooper, Dark Cloud, Gravity Rush, Tokyo Jungle, Super Stardust, ICO, God of War, Killzone, and Gran Turismo... One of my longtime favorites would probably be Okage: Shadow King because it was just so brilliantly dark and adorable and fun.

If I had to name one Sony IP that stands out above all others, it would be Everquest. Simply put, it laid the groundwork for the MMOs that would follow. It would be smart of Sony to hold onto that IP and rework it for a future game.

Never owned a PS3 and don't own a PS4, and pretty much only got third party stuff on my PSP.

Loved Twisted Metal back in the day though; remember playing alot of 4 and Black with friends and my brothers. The first 3 Spyro games were great fun too but Spyro isn't a Sony IP anymore so...

Won many awards, has the sales to boost the brand, gets fanboys mad.

fits the bill to me.

I always had a soft spot for GoW. The first game is still among my top 5 GOAT. Sure their gameplay couldnt compete with the best of the best in the genre (DMC, Bayo, NG) but it was still fun for what it was. The new GoW however didnt impress me. Its gameplay looks shallow as fvck

So, saying this, TLoU since its becoming a franchise after the 2nd game releases

Idk if I have one unless we're counting games with only on entry as a franchise. In which case it's TLOU and Hoizon and then a grand canyon sized gap and then the rest of their trash franchises.

That would have to be Uncharted. It covers so many genres. Coolyfett has not even played Uncharted 4, but the first 3 games were very fun to play. Coolyfett would say Uncharted is PlayStation's main title because of the amount of things you can do in it. The franchise has 6 games so that is pretty solid.
