This is something that's been on my mind recently, mostly because the next generation of game consoles is presumably just around the corner. Or at least, some news of them certainly is.
We can pretty much say that the main reason why Nintendo released and marketed the Wii as they did (using motion controls, and not a true technological leap forward, as the console's selling point) is because they had lost so much ground in the market with their previous two consoles. (Of course, I'm not ignoring handhelds, but they've dominated that sector for a long time...)
What I'm curious about is this: With their feet planted firmly at the top of the hill once again, what will Nintendo release next time around? Personally, if I had to guess I'd say they'll go with what works, and keep the motion controls (if a bit more refined) and add in whatever they can without jacking the price up too much. (HD resolutions, up to date hardware)
I don't think they'll have the pure horsepower to match whatever Sony/MS offer up next, but that's just because that doesn't seem very "Nintendo" these days...
