Fans are rabid, but the big review sites flop every game in the series. Am I missing something here? What do you think?

It's an acquired taste? :P I enjoy them, sure they're love it or hate it games, but I'm glad to be in the "love it" side.

The new Monster Hunter 3 got a 10 on Famitsu, I don't think you can consider that a flop.

I haven't played any of the Monster Hunter games yet, but I'm going to try MH3 because it looks so awesome.

Pretty much this. The game has alot of walls to overcome ( the controls, yian kut-ku, khezu, tigrex etc) But when you get into the swing of things the game is like crack.

The series is definitely an aquired taste, hate or love.

The first couple games required a bit of polish and more content but the recent games are very much playable and well like by many. Im a fan myself.

Ive put a few hundred hours into Monster Hunter 2 and a few dozen hours into MH3 Tri.

I wish there was the option for PvP (not king of the hill) and they got rid of the loading screens. Then it would be amazing.

Its more of a taste thing. Japan loves it and everywhere els criticts dont care to much for it. I have a friend who both loves and hates the game.

well freedom unite has an average in the 80's so I wouldn't say all the critics hate it.

Loved the first PSP version I played & would buy console version, though I don't think it would be as fun. It's a good time killer & fun on the go, but it seems like it's more fun on the go.

It's a love it or hate it type of game. It's definitely not for everyone though. It's one of those games where to truly enjoy it, you have to be good and to be good, you have invest a lot of time into it. The learning curve tends to turn most people off and the fact that it doesn't appeal to everyone leads to the games often getting lower scores then the fans believe they deserve. Put it this way, I think of Demon's Souls as an easy version of the MH games with some online aspects.
