what's the deciding factor for you?
for me it goes:
- quality of the hardware
- games
- aesthetic

Abilities of the Systems and the games available... Reason I picked Psp over DS and 360 over PS3/Wii
First and foremost, console exclusives. If I won't like what the console has to offer in that type of game, it's not worth buying.

People say hardware but I always feel like its an exaggerated complaint. My 360 broke, I sent it and got it back in some 2 or 3 weeks. Never paid a cent and spent more time playing the PC instead. It just did not matter to me.--
I dont understand reasoning like hardware aesthetic and loyalty. I get game loyalty, I.e I like Halo so will be a 360, but not console loyalty, i.e I like the PS3 so will buy Killzone (or at least claim it to be the new coming). Aesthetics are irrelevant being that you just put it into a TV stand and pretty much never see the full thing.--
Price is also not really a big factor as long as games are worthwhile. $600 was too much for the PS3 but not too much for a purely dedicated gaming PC. I get that you can do more on the PC, but often times ground up built gaming machines are pretty much only used for gaming and potential light web surfing. If the games are there I will put down $600. The games were not there when that price tag was first announced though.--
Social aspect does not matter much to me. Most of my friends do not pass for gamers and would much rather go out clubbing, drinking and other such activities then play games, the few that are are interspersed around the world making it impractical to play with them.hardware and price.... usually how i decide which console to buy first.
later on down the line ill pick up the other consoles as they offer something that entices me.
