Overall quality and how much enjoyment I get out of the game.
I can forgive some subpar graphics here and there, I can forgive a subpar story, it really just depends on the rest of the overall package. Personally, I'd like to have a fantastic story, great gameplay and top-notch visuals. Don't forget the amazing score and other little things.
Everything. Why on earth would you have to choose between great graphics and great gameplay when you can have both?
I want great graphics which wow me. If sound is significant in the game I want it to be great. Because if not, I put on my music. I want great mechanics. I want great gameplay. I want significant depth. There are games which offer all these things and that's what I want.
[QUOTE="SaltyMeatballs"]Graphics.DiviniuzLies! I wish it could be sometimes. I remember the good ol' days when there was no internet and hyping, I only got a game on my birthday and Christmas, and it would be by looking at the back of the box. i.e. teh graphics! The surprise of what you play was the best part, when it turned out to be an awesome game anyway. (Yoshi's Island impulse buy FTW!)
That the individual componants of a game fits well together.
I would rather play a game where each componant of the game are not the best they can be, but fits well and logical into eachother, then I would play a game that has really good indivudual componants, that really does not mesh.
Sadly the 2nd kind of games are made all the time, the first one is rarely made.
Music, Graphics, gameplay, story they all have to fit the premise of the game, I hate games that make things easier then they would be in that gameworld, and I hate games who opts for something like graphics over story or gameplay.
An example would be GoW2 and GoW3, I consider them really differently, I think GoW2 is a pretty good game, where each part of the equation fits fairly well.
GoW3 is a broken down mess, it is shorter, alot more boring, and the story is almost none existant. It has decent graphics sure, and makes a good first impression, but has anyone ever playied it past the first 2-3 hours? and those who has, can you say with a straight face that it is better then GoW2?
Also due to me wanting a game to fit logically into the world they created, I also utterly detest dumbing down game elements, that should be in said genre, and more importently in that world, i loathe a gameworld, that **** just as a windowdressing for explotions, the gameworld should drive the logical componants of a game.
I also dont like a game who cuts off venues you should logically be able to take, without giving an explanation.
So when people ask about what I value in games I usually say "Gameplay ->story ->music ----> graphics". In truth I do prefer a well rounded package, with as much focus on all things, but that has never happened in the history of mankind, and wont ever be I think. As long as the game is well thought out, I can appriciate it.
And no I did not really like Crysis :P (got 1 of the 4 parts covered, but the rest was either average or outright lackluster).
So I am a very picky gamer.
All games would be like FF13.Gameplay is everything.
Where would the game industry be without it?

Gameplay, stable Framerate (But I still count that as Gameplay), and Sound design.
Everyone underrates sound it is what makes or brakes the atmosphere if you play a horror game without sound it isn't scary. Also if you play a horror game and they replace the sound with something else it still wouldn't be scary it would change the genre altogether.
Sound. I have to be able to close my eyes and play the game just based on what I hear. If I can do that effectively, it's a good game in my book.
/sarcasm for the people undoubtedly quoting me lol
Nothing in particular. I look at the whole package. I usually watch gameplay videos on Youtube to decide. I guess gameplay. Having a good artstyle helps too.I like the general look of Nintendo games over grimy, ugly looking worlds you see in many shooters nowadays.
Depends on the game really.
If it's a Shooter then I'd expect the Multiplayer to be good (if there is.) and the Story to be decent and the Controls to be Well and Responsive.
If it's a Platformer I'd expect the Controls to be simple and easy and I don't necessarily look for a story.
If it's an RPG, THEN THE STORY MUST BE GOOD and the Controls must be good.
If it's a Fighter, I expect the Controls to be Great and Responsive and I don't expect a story but I do expect balance in all the characters.
That the elements and mechanics relevant to the genre and what the developer is trying to achieve are well made and fit together as a whole.
And for the LJN logo.

And for the Nintendo Seal of Quality.McStrongfast
aw I was going to show this.
I changed it back, just for you.
They both sort of work as ironic jokes. The Nintendo seal is pointless and the LJN logo is the opposite of a seal of quality.
Pleasing visuals, good audio, good game play, good controls, good story (if necessary), and good presentation.
Gameplay is first and design is second. Solid controls make a game playable, but without brilliant level design, the game fails hard.
Story can be a bonus, but when it starts interfering with gameplay (unscipable cutscenes or portions where you can only walk while listening to someone on your ear piece) it detracts from my fun
This could have a wide range of different answers, it depends on what type of game it is. For First Person Shooter maybe something like Gameplay, Depth, and Graphics.
I like a lot of content and interactivity. If I can get absorbed into the world then its a great game today?
Personally, when buying a game I tend to look at what my favorite reviewers are saying about it, the gameplay style, single player length, the story, then the rest. Sometimse sequels will be bought irrespective (e.g.Uncharted, Assassin's Creed or Mass Effects)
Story and gameplay. I don't really give a **** about graphics, but it is nice when they contribute to the atmosphere and mood of the game, ala Demon's Souls and Dead Space.
