forgot about that one but ya, I miss that 2 .... I want to pimp out my Infernus :(
I can't think of anything. Everytime I try to think of something I miss from past GTAs, I'm instantly reminded of the truly horrible gunplay and shallow driving, and that overshadows everything else.
So when I consider how much better GTAIV is at those two very important aspects of the series, I don't miss any past GTA at all. I could never see myself going back to them. The core gameplay has been improved astronomically.
The lack of stuff to spend money on and some scripted chase missions are GTAIV's only two major flaws, and they're also not enough to keep it from a 10.

Well, I just finally beat it tonight actually. And while I got slightly disenchanted half way through, after laying off of it for a couple of days, I fell in love with it all over again after I came back and finished it. This game is truly a perfect example of the saying, "The whole is greater than the sum of it's parts."
However, the main thing that I missed was the ability to buy property. The things that disenchanted me towards the middle of the game was the annoying calls from your needy friends, and the soundtrack, which I felt was much weaker than previous installments. However, in retrospect, all of that is trivial when measured against the entire production.
As this game, when measured for what it is as a whole, is indeed a masterpiece. In order for me realize this fully, it took me playing half of it, and then laying off a few days so that I did not get completely burned out. After which, I picked it back up fresh, and completed it over the course a few days. At which time, I was able to fully appreciate what a beautiful monster this game really is. Patience with this one will reward you.
The fun
Replayability
Cool characters
Celebrity Voice actors
Usefullness of money
Over the top story not some over dramatic "reallistic" story that dosent even end well

The only thing I miss is being able to buy property. I think everything else is superior to past games. With San Andreas I felt like they just tried to do way too much and it took away from the game.
