Poll What do you thing of Final Fantasy 7 remake being an episodic game ? (77 votes)

Turn OFF ... What the .... are they thinking ? 70%
Turn ON .. I like games being like sort of TV series , finish the first part and anticipate for the next ..after few months 5%
I DONT CARE episodic or not so its all good. 25%

The worst announcement i could ever dream of was that of FINAL FANTASY 7 REMAKE being an episodic game rather than a full , one time release game.

I was about to pre-order day 1 one of , if not THE ONE , most anticipated games since the announcement of Diablo 3. Now not only i wont pre-order , not only i wont buy on release since but ill also consider to buy it all together ( there are plenty of other ways to play games nowdays.

If ill consider to buy it the most likely scenario for me is to wait for ALL EPISODES TO GET A RELEASE ....

What a turn off .. Ill almost cry here ! lol .. What you people think ?

It's a terrible thing and a obvious cash grab, but I'm sure a few cows will come into this thread and try to spin it into something positive.

It depends. If by episodic they mean 6 hour long mini-episodes then it is obviously a complete turn off. If each episode has the same amount of content you would expect from a full game then I am ok with the decision although I would have obviously prefered if it was only one game.

The original came on multiple CDs but they can't fit the remake on multiple BR disc? Yeah that makes a lot of sense. They want to create a "unique" experience for it's customers but paying $100+ isn't the "unique" experience we're looking for.

CASH GRAB plain and simple.

My knee-jerk reaction? What the hell, get out of here Square Enix.

After reading some of what they've said: They say they are doing this so that they don't lose much content in the transition. That's great. I feel like I'll want to just wait for all "episodes" to be released before purchasing the game, but we'll see what happens.

Overall: I'm annoyed, and doesn't make me trust Square Enix's decision-making any more, but there are probably worse things.

I wouldn't dismiss a game I was interested in just because of the format. Episodic can have some advantages as long as the content does not take too long to be released. It remains to be seen how it will turn out, it is a bit premature to judge the game at this time imo.

Multi part releases are fine, but I have to say, I'm wary of how Square will handle it. I would be lying if I said this hasn't deflated my hype somewhat.

No problem at all.Its not episodes though..... Its a multi part series as in a game with sequels. It'll feel like kingdom hearts 1 ending or FF 13-2s ending or like any game that's going to get sequels.

Surely they wouldn't drag out the story without adding to it, as long as each game has a rich entry in story and gameplay I'm fine with it.

If I foresee any problem it's this... when they did three FFXIII games, at least each game felt different, each had a different focus in terms of story, characters and/or gameplay. If they basically try to stretch out FFVII with FFXV gameplay, people are going to get tired of that quick.

It really kills my hype for it.

The only posititive that could come from this is it's layered with extra content. I never expected a perfect 1-1 recreation of ff7 as those games are set in such restrictive environments given the technology at the time, they would definitely need to fill out areas of the city's and the world we couldn't explore.

I wonder if square will treat each disc as an individual game. It still feels scummy to me, seeing how we got the full game across multiple discs originally.

It would be fucking weird if they decided to change the story entirely and treat this like a XIII situation. Remember Square added advent children into the lore after the main story was over.

I don't like it all but the quality of the product or what little we have seen of it looks outstanding. I may wait will they are all released and buy them in one complete package.

People are more then happy to see Star Wars Episode VII, VIII, and IX in 2 hour chunks every 2 years but they get upset about this?

As someone who has 0 nostalgia for any FF game I was interested in the remake when I saw that PSX trailer. All that went away when they announced it was episodic a few hours later lol.

Depends on how it is handled. I am not automatically against it, there have been games that were episodic that lost nothing in being so.

However! We have also all seen games that suffered greatly for it.

Ideally if done right you should be able to sit down and play all the episodes without really noticing when the game transitions.

From the point of view of SE, this is a generally logical move, first off, the game likely will cost more yes, but trying to remake FF7 would cost a ton of money and time, I do not consider that horrible, just the fact of the world.

They will be able to get at least a part of it out the door quicker, and able to see consumer reactions.

Worst case scenario they can cut at least some losses if it does not sell well.

In truth it all comes down to how SE handles the episodic nature, they can not afford to mess it up, but episodic luckily don't have the track record of DLC. Which is pure poison for the vast majority of games.

Hype vanished completely when I heard this. There is no way to spin an episodic FF7 as a good thing it's just not possible. All their bullshit about how it's too big to do in one game in a world where we have Witcher 3, MGSV, DAI etc seriously it's the most blatant cash grab imaginable and they can stick it up their ass.

I think i'll wait for a complete game before I think of playing it. This is just an extreme of what we see already with season passes and i'm used to waiting for goty editions.

Hopefully each part is 30 hours + because of this.

How can people say this is fine? with a straight face? Most people have already played FF7 ... they know the story ....so episodes is just f*cking pointless. It's not like an episode can end on a cliff-hanger to keep anyone guessing, it will *probably* end after Aeris dies AGAIN....

How will they handle levels/items? "oh your level 40? welcome back to lvl 5 on episode 2...." ...... it KILLS any sense of progression... even if it did save onto the next chapter, they will try to make you feel supreme for each chapters... resulting in a disconnect.

There is far more wrong with this than right... only impatient people must think this is a good idea... its beyond ridiculous. but I lost all hope for it as soon as I saw it tbh .... silly teasers like this mean nothing... show me a world map, show me a teaser of all the featuers that made the EARLY FF games so great.

All we saw, was a pretty walk-down corridor ... granted I know, it was the start of the game.... but f*ck that ..... show me a world map... a PROPER ff one .. or riot ... show me the gold saucer, show me that this isn't a s*it cash in coning FF15 in another skin.

Basically this.. If we are looking a example of one that was episodic in a way it was StarCraft 2.. Which each game and expansion turned out to be jam packed full of content and quality.

I totally agree with both you guys; thats exactly how I feel about this episodic nonsense for a game damn near everyone played/watched to death.

I seriously wonder what the total price for the game will actually be.

If I buy it I will definitely be waiting until all the episodes come out and I will be buying it cheap, possibly used. It is really all good to me, I still love the PS1 original and I couldn't have cared less if it was remade or not. I figured SE would **** it up somehow. This is 2016 Square-Enix remaking it, not Hironobu Sakaguchi's 1997 Squaresoft.

Not against it in theory, though worry about the actual execution. There's definitely potential for SE to be shitty with this, which initially made me very wary. although they did say that each episode would amount to a full game, and I could see how an episodic format could really expand the FFVII lore and world, which makes me less wary, though not completely.

Just hoping this doesn't become another FF: All the Bravest situation where SE shits on our FF nolstalgia for the $$$.

Well there it is I guess. $180 for the full experience.

I am losing interest because I don't trust Square-Enix. Plus I feel they are doing this because the 20th anniversary is coming up soon. Therefore, they are gonna milk it like always.

Just to add that Advent Children sucked so I am worried about this extra content.

Yeah if it's priced accordingly to equal one full game price then it's fine since it gets released faster but if not (like I'm expecting) then it's just a major cash grab >.>

I don't think episodic structure is inherently problematic. It's just that very, very, VERY few games have properly justified that design, and I have doubts that this will be an exception to the rule, largely due to SE's incompetence.

They should focus on getting XV out the door instead. Bunch of clowns.

I understand why they're going for it. And honestly it might be a smarter alternative than to work on it for half a decade.

@MirkoS77: Yeah, they said something to that effect, about how each episode would be like a full-release game and each would be a unique experience. Maybe there was more to it than that I missed but yeah.

I don't know if it exactly means each episode will be $60. They could just mean that each episode won't be some really short 10-ish hour experience and there will be a bit more meat to it than that. Maybe each episode would maybe only cost $40? (which would still amount to 120$ though, and that's assuming there's only 3 episodes and not more)

I'm pretty mixed on this whole thing really. As I said I don't think there episodic structure is bad in theory, and I can see how it could potentially result in a much more expanded upon FFVII universe. Of course I'm well aware of some of SE's past actions and know how this could potentially be a shitty thing. I'm definitely curious to hear more about the game.
