Does it annoy you when you can't aim with a weapon like in the first halo for example or can only zoom with the crosshair like in Perfect Dark? I hate it when I can't aim down a weapon in a game. It should be a rule that in all FPS's you should be able to aim down a weapon. Zooming in is lame.

I ESPECIALLY hate it when the weapon models have terrible sights. Sometimes a game will have sights that feel too "thick" or don't give you a good sense of distance or feel obtuse. Oh and game devolpers? If you give us a pistol where we can aim don't make the sights so tiny and dark that they blend into eachother!

Anyone else feel this way?

I was talking about when a game doesn't let you look down the sights but rather "zooms in" You know like how it worked for Golden Eye or Perfect Dark

KZ2 was hard to get use to at first but once you get an understanding of how the controls work it's the best.

I couldn't care less if you have zoom or ironsights. Why? Because it doesn't actually matter at all which one you have.

Real? In real life you can't hold a gun that straight while firing a heavy machine gun. The sights would be shaking crazily unless your super strong or something.

Don't the sights autoaim on a nearby target too when you look down them? That's kind of lame unless you can turn it off.

I think it depends on the design of the shooter itself, and exactly the type of shooter gameplay the developer is aiming for. Hell I dont even are if the gun isn't on screen, ala Rainbow Six (and Rouge Spear) or SWAT3, as long as it is done well to fit the games design.

The zooming function is supposed to simulate you concentrating on something - creating tunnel vision. Its different to aiming down the guns irons. And yeah there are games that simulate infantry combat, and ballistics - look no further than Operation Flashpoint, ArmA 1 and of recent ArmA II (and its military training counterparts Virtual Battlespace 1/2). All the others, the CoDs etc. have a quasi realistic aiming function - like counterstrike. Movement is factored in when firing, however its hardly realistic - its not supposed to be, instead its supposed to give the player a sense of realism in a fantasy thriller / war action setting.

I don't care about aiming, get used to it, if I've paid full price for a game I don't care if the sight is realistic and 'hard' to aim down, I've never had a problem with the sights on any gun except one, the Springfield without a scope in CoD WaW, it has basically a really slim triangle sight, and I never figured out how to get headshots with it.

Ironsights are not essential for any type of shooter that isn't suppose to be realistic.

Well the good thing about free aim and ironsights is they remove the bullcrap bullet deviation you see in most shooting games where they just give you a circle and tell you that the bullet will go um, somewhere in there. It makes it random and obnoxious. I simply want the ability to point my gun and fire at someone with the reasonable expectation that a bullet will plaster their face to the wall. I don't really need the aesthetic option of the ironsights or free aim at all, I just need the projectile going to the same spot every time I fire, which unfortunately is almost never the case in cross-hair based games. UT3 does it perfectly fine, though.
