In most cases I prefer cel-shaded graphics. Wind Waker is the best looking Zelda to date because of it
I can see where you get the ''lazy'' arguement, developers are using more and more cell shaded graphics on the Wii because that console isn't quite capable to meet today's standards for realistic-like graphics. But that's not laziness, that's just adapting to a certain level.
Plus making cell-shaded graphics that don't actually feel tacked-on (just for the sake of having ''teh orygeenaleetey'' ) can be quite hard. But many cell-shaded games look impressive.
Zelda: Wind Waker (still to date, one of the very best), Prince of Persia and Okami are 3 games that have the very best cell-shaded graphics in my opinion.
I think cell-shaded is nice, it stirred controversy last gen but this gen it's becoming widely accepted and is a nice change. Some games are absolutely gorgeous to look at in cell-shaded visuals, just look at Prince of Persia! It's like a painting coming to life!

Not cell-shading. In fact, I don't think Castle Crashers is, either.
They have awesome Art style anyway:P[QUOTE="Cherokee_Jack"][QUOTE="MachoBuzzzy"]And Braid too

They have awesome Art style anyway:P That's true.So basically, I've traveled back in time to 2002 and we're discussing Wind Waker vs a "realistic" looking Zelda.InsaneBasuraWell I don't think the issue back then was so much as to Link being in a coortonie graphics but more because of the false promise from Nintendo with that Link vs Ganondorf battle tech demo shown in spaceworld.

That one is truly cel-shaded, and also looks fantastic:

I prefer realistic graphics but I don't knock cell shaded graphics. I will never not play a game because it has cell shaded graphics.

Yet you have a Starcraft 2 picture for you account, ironic seeing as Blizzard has always derived its graphics from such methods.I've seen that the redactors of the local PC magazines worship this cell-shading method a lot... I don't know why, it looks so childish and ugly to me... It was cool maybe in 2003, but not now :D

Cell shading is great. It can really make a game look fantastic (Wind Waker and Prince of Persia both look freaking amazing)
at first i hated Windwaker, but the look of the fire was really awesome. Cell Shading > wannabe realistic textures that look like crapmetalisticpain
Realistic textures that look good>cellshading

Both of you are right and wrong at the same time. Because some people prefer realistic graphics other prefer Cel-shaded. It is just a matter of liking. You guys just have different opinions so stick to what you find more appealing. ;)>
^ I hate cellshading.
It's just a way to excuse the lack of memory and of shader procesing power of the current gen consoles.
The worst thing was PoP witch made the characters look 2D papercuts.
I could excuse the cellshading if the gameplay would have been good, but it's not the case. Game deveopers seem to be suffering of the ET syndrome for time now.
i personaly hate it. Its not impressive at all and sems like an excuse not to work hard, because it sems a lot easer to make. when you looks at a dirt road in cellshading games it is just one solid color, but in normal ones you can see different textures and the grains of dirt on the ground. the same for other things someones shirt will just look the same al around, when in a normal game you can see wrinkles and different colors on the shirt depending on the lighting.
EmperorZeruel
Easy you wanna no how easy it is to make a realisic road texture you photosorce it make it seemless with cell shading you have to make everything from scratch the only thing that is remotely hard in realisim is face textures.
its alot harder to make cartoon graphics look good than realistic graphics.
next time you should know what your talking about before you write something.
