Well UMD already failed hard and Blu Ray has it's tie to gaming already. Companies have plans, what you see in GS's headlines are usually part of something much bigger than the story. Sony is supporting PS3 and PSP very well with first and second party titles though so it would be hard for me to say they're only in it for movies since I only own 2 BDs and no UMDs. Compare that to about 15 PS3 games, 10 PSP games, and who knows how many PS2 games and it makes the movie argument seem weak, I'm not everyone though.
Sony probably cares about all of those equally. They probably care about their TV's selling too, their cell phones, computers, and laptops. They also care about making movies that sell tickets and discs, and their recording artists selling music... Sony is a big company you see :?
So you're basically asking if they care more about games or movies? I'm guessing the game division cares more about games and the movie division cares more about movies.

I think that the PS3 being successful and Blu Ray being successful go hand in hand so both are probably important to Sony, Bur like the guy above me said, they probably care the most about which ever nets them the most profit.
lets say sony lets xbox, PC developers, nintendo, movie companies use BR, wouldnt there be more $ to be made getting royalties from software you spent nxt to nothing developing then developing software yourself?

there are already Blu-Ray drives in PCs, and why would nintendo and MS what blu-ray drives in their consoles?
I think that Sony is a good strong and high quality electronic producing company which expandes fast in every field of entertainment and that is what makes it a good company. I think that they care more about money then the users unlike nintendo but that also has it's upside.
