With this gen coming to a close, What does Sony need to do to regain the dominance they once had with the PS2?
1.Ditch cell tech
2.Make a basic model for $400
3.Come out before Microsoft
4.Have heavy hitters from your first party ready within its first year.
5.Continue to improve PSN and PS+.
They have to come up with a good sales gimmick. They have to use motion controls with their next console, but at the same time the hardest part for some is coming up with something original when they do it. HarlockJCDon't you think that's a bit too much for Sony?
Making a console that's easy to develop for is easily the most important thing Sony can so right now. They lost so many 3rd party exclusives on the PS3 because it was difficult to work with.
Dosent matter what they do, im on board for sure!.. this gen tought me to never waste my time and money with Microsoft or Nintendo.
all i want from sony is to relese the next gen system at a price of $350 and below, anything higher than $350 is wait for price drop to me.

You know it really is. Sony even outside of gaming has only been a follower, without coming out with something new I don't see have they move past PS4.
No pointless gimmicks that force up the cost of hardware, don't try to be Nintendo. Focus on producing a console that gives a lot of bang for your buck hardware wise. Nintendo are pursuing the family friendly gimmick route, Microsoft are trying to muscle in on that market, there will be a gap in the market for a (relatively) hardcore games console if any of the manufacturers have the gumption to take it.ElutheriaHardware means very little in overall console sales. It's what new that will appeal to the masses. As gaming PC get cheaper, companies like Sony will have something that will spark gamer to relook into their console.

Even blu-ray wasn't Sony-only either.
Release on time, don't get bigheaded saying that next gen starts when they say so, better price and easy development while having BETTER ADVERTISING!! That's one thing I don't understand about Sony, they don't advertise in the USA because it's their least popular region but it's their least popular region because they have bad support, poor infrastructure and don't advertise much.... Get it together Sony.JohnF111Yeah but I do wonder how much they save for not advertising heavily.
I agree and no gimmicks. And I'd pay for cross game chat. Drop Home and make XBL characters.1.Ditch cell tech

Sony will never be back on top unless they have a miracle. Even if they hit all the right spots, getting back on top is super hard.
A good launch price would do them wonders. Most people already know about the brand, but $599.99 at the PS3 launch really killed Sony's initial momentum. Couple that with solid software from the get-go, and they'll have a winner. Improving on their services and making the console itself easier to develop for would certainly help, too.
Price and friendly hardware is about it.
The Sony of today is capable of giving Microsoft real competition right from the start. They won't need to make any fancy maneuvers to keep up.
But that's close competition I'm talking about. Being "on top" is different. PS2 era Sony is something that will probably never happen again, not even to Microsoft.
To be fair to everyone, PS2-era Sony had very little to do with PS2-era Sony and everything to do with everyone else in the industry.Price and friendly hardware is about it.

Yeah, that's part of it. Right place, right time, that's why it's unlikely to happen again.
But I don't think Sony exactly bumbled through that generation either.
Out of the poll I'd say reasonable price.
I dont ever see them getting back to where they were though. Unless they offer up something that gets 3rd parties running back to them exclusively, or MS does something stupid that scares 3rd parties off, Sony will never dominate again.
They done f*cked up.
1, 2, 3, New controller and MARKETING, lots of it.InconsistancyAre you sure about that last one? they made this; http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XJaGScKpZuU
4. At least 4 gigs of RAM (why do console makers always cut corners on this?!)Kell_the_Gamer
128kb SNES (x16)
2mb PSX (x16)
32mb PS2 (x16)
512mb PS360
8192 would be the next step, though I'd be plenty happy with 6gb. (if consoles were on-time (6 year gen), but this one's longer, so the next step actually "should" be 16384)
They don't skimp, they just keep increasing ~the same amount. Ram hasn't gotten cheaper, we just buy a lot less of it. 300$ in '05 would get you 4gb(what I had back then), today that'll get you 64gb(10 times more than I have now!). There finally seems to be a diminishing return on increases in RAM.

A Great Console like their previous ones launched at a decent price..
Just cause Sony didnt 'win' this gen by selling the most consoles, doesnt mean it fell from grace in terms of quality in their product..
PS3 is a great console which offers a great variety of quality exclusives & multiplats, a good Free online service, extra features like being a Blu-Ray player, extra services like PSN+ etc etc
Surely Sony made a few mistakes, like launching the PS3 at a high price, dont market properly most of its exclusives and should have taken more care on making safer its Online service but overall it once again managed to release a great console...
For me as a gamer I didnt see Sony falling from grace cause they delivered once again a great console...
Options 1-3 and learn how to market their products. They are easily the worst when it comes to marketing out of the big 3.
A powerfull console with a good launch price and a huge marketing budget, problem is they are close to bankrupt so it just won't happen .
