My theory is

People buy them because they are so hard to come by

I remember i wanted a wii for so long and when i got one during the summer i really didnt play it much until smg and ssbb came out

So i think they are in such high demand because they are hard to come by

And when the stores do have them in stock they sell out in an eye blink because if people miss that chance it will be a while before they get another one

Nintendo fanboys do

New gamers do

Maybe some Nintendo-opposers do,because they buy Wii and Wii games in order to give offensive reviews after they play those games

Your logic hurts my brain, they sell so well because they are hard to come by yet they are hard to come by because they sell so well its quite the dilemma.

Good first party games and the advertisment campaigns for the wii appeal to people outside the core gaming audience(well they do in the UK).

People buying them because theres not alot doesn't make sense though.

affordability, games, innovativeness, general appeal, and yes, its popularity. The Wii provides a great alternative to the types of games you find on 360, PC, and PS3.

Because it's not a game...

Why is it anytime someone tries to bash Wii they say something, like "Oh and what does Wii have Wii Sports, yeah that's fun for like 2 seconds ahahaha" Urrm yeah what game came free with your PS3? Oh none that's right. They don't sell because they are hard to come by, the DS isn't hard to come by and it sells well, the reason the DS sells is the reason the Wii sells, it's suitable for all ages, it's fun and it's something different.

Cheaper then competition. Basically the same reason Honda Accords sell better then BMW M3s. Economics 101.

Its inexpensive. My friends all bought them because they couldnt buy a 360 or PS3. I have a Wii and 360, and next month, a PS3. So far, the 360 is my favorite.

Well actually they aren't cheaper than 360's now, so that's wrong, it's like buying a car with a 1 litre engine over one with a 3 litre one even though they are the same price, you get more for your money.

Pricing is perfect for parents. Females (no offense to hardcore female gamers) are in love with this thing. A lot of people I know bought this system b/c their wife wanted one b/c it looked "fun". The motion sensor is a great marketing tool. Something new and fresh. Honestly the Wii games are fun to play if you have been drinking w/ some friends.

I don't think many people buy the arcade edition of the 360 w/o the HDD, even still I believe it is $299 in the U.S. Outside of the U.S. Nintendo and Sony have a heavy advantage over MS, again the same reason MLB Baseball Cards, and Corvettes don't do very well across the ponds.

its something different (that one of the reasons why i got it), nintendo have done a very good job informing ppl what it does and its at a reasonable price. its also got some great games that serve all market sectors.

They're selling well because they're hard to find? :?

The gaming industry reached a point where consoles needed something different rather than just a simple upgrade of its predecessor. The Wii and DS sell well because they're different, thus making it more appealing, simple as that.

If / when you take upper level econ classes, you'll learn that the price of the good isn't always the most important factor... there are other factors that cause the sales... and on that note it's not because they are priced cheaper, it's because you have increasing marginal cost and decreasing marginal benefits.

Basicaly your confusing macro with micro.
