Madden looks to be underperforming on the Wii. I am not sure why considering the units sold in NA.

You're more upset about people banging wii's software sales than wii having most of it's 3rd party as trash?

I'm going to have to use VGcharts since it's the only public website that has software sales number for a majority of the stuff out. It's not very accurate but accurate numbers paint the same picture.

The wii has 8 games that have sold over 1 million copies (only 2 of these are not from nintendo).

The xbox360 has 22 games that are over the 1 million mark, 12 of these were over the 1 million mark at this time last year, and only a handfull are published by MS.

The biggest thing you'll notice is that Madden which is normally the top selling sports title on any system is lagging far behind on the Wii. This is a sure sign that the wii 3rd party software market is failing.

Here's the madden breakdown:

xbox 360 - 1,196,400 units sold

PS2 - 690,485

PS3 - 341,368

Wii - 94,827

You can pretty much do this w/ any multiplat Wii title and get the same thing.

I was gonna say this to the person who stated that 1

million is not a lot. 400-500k is considered a hit. A million or more is just considered a very big hit.

Well, most of the 3rd party games that have sold well were launch games. RE4 might seem like a good argument except for the fact that it was only $30 and a known quantity.

Since your question was how do companies know that 3rd party software isn't selling, well, I'm going to assume that they know what kinds of numbers they're shipping and therefore could say that the games aren't selling.

What the Wii would need is a high-quality 3rd party game, freshly developed for the Wii, to sell well. So far, we haven't really seen that. Again, I'm sure devs/publishers account for the fact that launch titles often sell better because there's little competition. We would need to see an amazing new game selling well now.

The Wii sold plenty of consoles that were purchased for the most part by the Nintendo Loyalists and the main problem for Third Party Developers is that Nintendo Loyalists for the most part purchase only Nintendo software.

This bodes badly for the future library on the Wii as when gamers consider multiplat. games its always lower quality on the Wii if you consider game features other than the controller.

That could be a case that Nintendo may not have it all. We all have to come to terms that Red Steel isn't that great of a game yet manages to... Wait What's MMR? Ah! Mercury Meltdown Revolution. :P

Seeing Madden like that does show a bit of vulnerability. Yukio believes Nintendo are aware of that.
